    What is the physical interpretation of product of inertia ? e.g. in beams the area moment of inertia is resistance to bending and in dynamics mass moment of inertia is resistance to rotation then what does product of inertia means?

    Sir,in fly wheel case of car engine,you said that out of 10 kg,almost 9kg is used to make the rim,and 1kg for the inner part,so that the wheel has maximum moment of inertia(so that it maintains its velocity and keeps on rotating). But Sir,this will have a negative impact as well.In the beginning,before the car starts to move,velocity of the wheel is zero.So,the wheel has inertia of rest.That implies,the wheel will try to remain at rest.Now,if moment of inertia is very large(since we have put most of the mass on the rim/circumference of the wheel),there will be a very large opposition for the wheel to move(more moment of inertia, more opposition to move).So,a very large force will have to be applied to start moving the wheel in the first place.This is a negative effect.Why then are we designing the wheel in this way?
