If u guys interested, there is a japanese girlgroup called Bananalemon, they also made r&b medley, they even remaking Hey Mr DJ under Universal Japan. They just going indie tho, but they still have good stuff, please check them out. I think japan actually loved classic r&b, a lot of their soloist still have that kind of sounds

U explained it perfectly, they showin so much love to the old school culture . They bringing it on an Asian platform & newer generation. that’s dope asf, people just too thick headed to understand that and think any and everything is negative

I feel like they're not even giving these girls any chance at all. As always though, thank you for always supporting them. I think this Vox is one of their best work yet. Calling them culture vultures when they are clearly showing their love, homage and appreciation (and talents!) in a musical genre popular globally, would be like calling Leontyne Price the same for singing an Italian Operatic Solo (I saw her in-person, singing the Aria from Madam Butterfly, the famous Puccini Italian Opera about a Japanese woman betrayed by an American Naval Officer) or saying Charlie Pride can't sing Country music because he's black, or Andre Watts couldn't play Chopin on piano at Symphony Hall. It's gatekeeping moving toward racism. Yes, CA is real, like Blackfaced Al Jolson singing in the 1920s, or White Hollywood actors taping there eyes to play Chinese and Japanese in the 30s-40s-50s, or naming your sports team the Redskins, up until just a few years ago, etc.. Music has always been an admired, copied, influenced, borrowed, revised, reinvented, covered, modified, interpreted, sampled, subjective but shared, art form.

XG's vocal line just SLAYED this entire VOX 🔥🔥🔥Hinata, Juria and Chisa all have their own unique distinct tones & styles they are just too good. And those ad libs in Scrubs just 🔥🔥🔥

They grew up listening to Lauryn Hill, TLC, Destiny's Child, Faith Evans, Keyshia Cole, Kehlani, Mary J Blige, Missy Elliott, Ciara, Beyonce, etc. That's not including their Pop influences which are from what I have seen.... Michael Jackson, Madonna, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Billie Eilish, Justin Beiber, Carly Rae Jepsen, etc. Cocona danced to Pop Smoke in her MOVE #2 video and Jurin danced to Chris Brown in hers, so I bet those are influences of theirs too.

The first thing I noticed is it never felt like they were stepping on the songs they were covering, despite the reworked beats and added vocal flair. What I noticed after was that Hinata's cover of Bad was mostly untouched (unsurprising, Kriz did the vocal production for shooting star! What a cool way to circle back) and was the longest. Juria only ventured a little away from Utada (which on its own is impressive to pull off. Utada is an icon) and then Chisa really put herself into MJ's Rock With You and I don't think its an accident her cover is the shortest of the three. It feels like such a subtle layer of respect I just don't expect from non-american/western artists. Then they hit No Scrubs. They've been name dropping TLC as inspirations since the jump, can be caught singing along to Diggin on You and Unpretty, and have thrown themselves into that mid-late 90s culture wholeheartedly in a way only they can. Are they releasing a treatise on global racial relations and cultural osmosis? No, but they earnestly absorb themselves in the Black music that not only built the industry they stood on to even produce this content but our own American musical industry. I'm guilty of side-eyeing certain folks who claim Lauryn Hill as an inspiration, and I was a skeptic for XG until I saw half her damn discography stacked neatly on an endtable in a blurry BTS shot for one of the girl's birthdays. I stopped being a skeptic when I heard one of them humming Nothing Even Matters. They love the music, and ASPIRE to it. I think thats a line worth respecting, and they hit No Scrubs with an originality AND accuracy that speaks to who they love and who they want to be. I can see TBoz, Lefteye (rip), and Chilli in these three. I haven't kept up with the former and latter these years, but I wonder how they'd feel about these girls, even if this definitely isn't their usual scene haha. Great video! Without looking, I hope you got a chance to hear them do the OPPOSITE kind of cover of Peaches by Justin Bieber. They put their foot on it and made it a better song in a way that I find hard to describe, despite my obvious willingness to the verbose.

Japan loved M.J. , if you ever saw his concert in Japan and the crowd that went crazy it's easy to see why they would pay tribute to these great western artists who they love and respect.

That Japanese song is Utada Hikaru song ( Japanese American singer ).. amazing!! Although XG are all born in Japan 🇯🇵🇯🇵 they’re fluent in Japanese, Korean and English… incredible.

…and the artists whose songs they are sampling and remixing are seeing renewed interest in their tracks from the new generation and old heads.

I don't know these girls yet and just my observation. So heres mines Hinata 9.5/10 -She got the voice, style, calm and cool but also brings flavor to the group Juria 9.5/10 - Extremely great voice and maybe the heart and soul of the group? Chisa 9/10- Talented, effortless, Superstar (she did the best in the Scrubs song though 9.5 in that one) MJ is never easy to cover so she took a chance and did well

I think that these beautiful and talented young ladies deserve all the love and support. I appreciate them for showing love to the black culture and music. Music has no color because I enjoy it regardless of the race of the person. I love XG because they are very gifted and talented with the music they put out into the world.
