Funny you mention Golden Retriever Energy, I mean this with good intent, but I'd genuinely say you have Golden Retriever Energy. You bounce around telling chaotic stories and you're full of energy in every video. These XFM shows are an hour of laughing and chaos and energy, they always leave me in a better mood. That's definitely Golden Retriever Energy.

Sumo wrestling originated in Japan, with its roots tracing back over 1,500 years. The earliest records of sumo can be found in the Kojiki, Japan's oldest historical record, which dates back to 712 AD. Initially, sumo was performed as a Shinto ritual to pray for a bountiful harvest. Over time, it evolved into a form of entertainment for the imperial court and later became a professional sport with its own rules and traditions. The formalized version of sumo, as we know it today, began to take shape during the Edo period (1603-1868).
Aaah, so nice to have you back on the XFM stuff Mandy! Great reaction as ever, so entertaining. "Be kind to cats" - Well, Ricky gives a lot to animal charities and speaks out a lot against animal cruelty, so I wanted to give him a t-shirt to reflect that, and I thought why not cats and why not Kitana as the poster cat, right? :) I love how you notice the little details I put in even noting that I used 'personal hygiene'. Glad you saw the pencil in under 13m30s this time, haha! Next two episodes are without Karl :(

@@markcutting6504Manchester is where the industrial revolution started so in many ways is where the modern world started.
They used to use reeds frayed at the ends like rope and rubbed against the teeth in like 3000bc. My theory is that it was more originally to get food out of the gaps in your teeth and a frayed reed is like 100 toothpicks at once and would eventually be associated with healthier teeth but this was well before people knew about scurvy, grinding wheat on porous stone mills would leave heavy deposits of rock in most breads etc. So teeth would be expected to fall out for the majority of working people until extremely recently. If you could afford to have decent nutrition of higher quality you might retain most of your teeth but the only issue with historical interpretation is we rarely consider the smell :)

That level of Obesity usually stems from mental illness of some sort. Also, food addiction is a real thing. When i was young, my Uncle was the only 'Man' in my life regularly. He was 6'3 350 pounds. Whenever he was home from Trucking, he would take me to the movies and out to eat. Starting at age 6, he would encourage me to see how much i could possibly eat. He would tell me how cool i was when i ate a lot.. This went on for years. Now as an adult, i have been diagnosed with 'Binge Eating Disorder' and it sucks sometimes lol.. Luckily I'm not huge (6'2 270 former football player), but it's a constant battle with my stomach AND my bank account 😂

The weight-limit on flights does make sense. I used to work in avionics and how it works is you take the weight of the 'plane and use that as the tare or zero. Then add the weight of the fuel which will lessen over the course of the journey and you get the amount of fuel needed to carry tare from point to point. That's assuming an empty vehicle. The reason there's a luggage limit is to create an absolute because what we can't factor is the variation of weight of any given passenger so weight of passengers falls into the "operating envelope". Put simply, you control all predicable factors to create wiggle-room for things you can't.

So all the tall people will be on holiday in their speedos and a pair of flip flops, and all the short broom handles will be there wearing elaborate ball gowns and glass slippers
@gabbermensch

@@Wagoo And that's the point. Doesn't matter what height, weight or luggage preference of each individual passenger. If the luggage has an absolute cut-off, the contents don't matter. You could have bars of gold of your entire stamp collection, it's to negate the variation of the unpredictable - the passengers themselves.

Happy to find all is well in this little corner of the internet! 'Sumo Assistant'? Now if this had been ten years later, in An Idiot Abroad days .... Steve on the phone to Karl: "We're sending you to Japan so you can learn how to be a Sumo Assistant and appreciate the cultured science of the Japanese people."
There's a lovely series of mini-documentaries about famous "supporting actors" in films, and the mother from "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" (Darlene Cates) features in one. Called "Supporting Actor Spotlights". Great - and very moving - series.

Hurrah for XFM Fridays! Glad you are on the mend :) Who kicks a cat??? To the pyre with him! Japanese toilets have built in water jet functions, so if they really can't reach.. then they have that option. I think 99% of sumo wrestlers can still reach themselves, anyway. I think anyone would stop growing if they couldn't have a tug anymore Demon/devil - expect Karl to use synonyms for words that crop up in the answer to his questions, as he never wants to directly mention the exact word. I think in this case demon is a good synonym for devil. But.. Karl's brain _often_ chooses a kinda bizarre synonym that isn't really close to the original word 😂 Also this quiz.. hasn't finished evolving into its final form

@MandyCaneLane It just gets a bit more streamlined in its execution as time goes on (i.e. they do three a week rather than one, they take answers via email rather than phone, the answers become an artist or band name rather than a song title, and clues are first given the week before and then repeated a few times the week of) but don't worry, Karl's clues never get any less silly, just a LITTLE shorter. 🤣

Glad to hear and see you're doing better! We missed you the last two weeks! I actually do think Karl would be kind of like a cat could speak. I don't know if you heard this theory, but someone once said that if a lion could speak English you still wouldn't understand what it's talking about. Their world and their thought process is so different from humans that nothing it says or thinks would make any sense. Karl is a lot like that! His thoughts are just so different from what you'd expect from a human! I do think that a lot of the things Karl says are said to be funny with a very dead pan delivery. Words he chooses to use are often intentional to make it seem "dumber" than he is. He's not bright in the traditional sense though. He doesn't know anything and some intellectual concepts are just too high flying for him. Just wait until they start going into simple philosophy, idioms and analogies. You've already seen some of that in "An Idiot Abroad". Things to before you die turns into "If I know I'm gonna die tomorrow I don't want to climb Kilimanjaro!" Karl is "dumb" in some ways, but most of his intelligence is creative or practical. He's got an imagination most of us can only dream of and he as far as I can tell he can fix anything around the house.

He's just a tag along, here. (Fat Club) I still had to convert KG to pounds. That's what I get for living in USA. That's 238 pounds. Somewhere between 2 and 12 pounds more, would be me.
