Xero HFS: Review

Спорт

Today I talk about one of the Xero HFS. You can expect a full review after 500 miles once I have really tested the durability and longevity of them. We go over the things I like and didn't like in this minimalist running shoes, include the zero drop, low cushioning aspects, the tread and grip, design and comfort. I also show footage of some running to help see them in action.

    Great shoe review, Tirnan. Crazy 500 mile sole warranty. I used to run in New Balance minimalist shoes, and while I loved the ground feel, I suffered multiple stress fractures in my toes, so had to change shoes but still prefer no / low-drop shoes. Cheer.

    @@TirnanHealy Thanks for the question. Hoka's are 4-5 mm drop, which is considered low. I've run in 10 mm drop Nike's and Brook's and they create too much pressure on my shins. And as mentioned I've run in zero-drop New Balance shoes when Chris McDougall's book "Born to Run" convinced everyone to un barefoot lol.

    Fantastic review, man. Gonna ask you (and I guess everyone else also) for some advice. I never run like… long distances. Nothing more than 5 miles at a time, for the most part, and I usually run between 1 and 3. I’ve been using a pair of On Cloudstratus’s forrrr about two years now and I’m a bit tired of them. They feel very bottom and heel heavy and I think it affects my form to a pretty big extent because I have to work A LOT harder for a good 2-mile time than I did before I bought them. I’m not the best runner, but I know in general my form is good, and I just really suck at endurance/pacing. Butttt with that stuff in mind do you have any recommendations? Would you suggest a zero drop shoe? Idk I’m grasping at straws to get my running better lol

  • @TirnanHealy

    @TirnanHealy

    Hi Danny sorry about the late response but if you’re looking for a shoe between regular running shoes and minimalist I would suggest “Altra Escalante” as they are zero drop whilst also having a firm, responsive cushion, they are a good in between shoe and I may by myself another pair myself for the speed benefits

    Xero makes decent shoes that feel good at first but never seem to last as long as pretty much every other manufacturer, but they do generally feel good otherwise. The biggest negative is dealing with the company with any issues - they are HUGELY resistant and slow to respond, usually taking 1 full week between responses. Personally I'll never deal with them again but I hope your HFS work out for you!

    Which Xero model(s) did you have durability issues with? My gf has had her Prios for 2 years of daily wear for work, medium length runs, long walks and lifting workouts, and they look like new still. I have had my Oswego pair for a year now and wear them daily for similar purposes. Some of the chevron lugs under the toes have worn down slightly, but looks like I'll have 2-3 more years of daily wear at least before the tread wears flat. The upper on both shoes are like new. 🤷🏼‍♂️

  • @therealchickentender

    @therealchickentender

    @@technopong I can't remember the name of them but they've been discontinued for at least a couple years. They were all-leather upper. The problem was with stitching coming (which a lot of ppl apparently had). They gave me 10% the price back and sent me a short note and a sample sized bottle of shoe-goo about a month and a half after I first emailed them (which was only 2 or 3 weeks after purchase). My GF has pair of Prios she's happy with for about a year now. Like I said, could have been a one-off but I had a lot of emails with them and every response from took at least a week (after I'd reply within half a day) all for something that was very clearly a design and manufacturing defect. Was a pain. I still have that shoe-goo somewhere in a drawer. I've seen similar reports about various styles of their leather upper shoes.... Really just seems like they can't figure out how to make a durable leather shoe. The runners seems fine.

    They Guarantee I think 5000 miles. Bullshit on these shoes. Mine lasted well less than 1000 miles before tread eroded and developed two holes in the bottom of sole. I never ran with these, just hiked on dirt/grass trails! They wanted me to spend my own money and time to mail them back, and THEN only give me 60 percent towards another pair that surely would have done the same. Their WATERPROOF hiking boots I bought not only rubbed on the ankle, ( had no reliefe built in )but were Anything But waterproof even with just Dew on the grass. Sopping wet socks after only a couple of miles. Obviously I think very little of this company.
