    Water sits on the bottom of the tank always. If you tilt the sled so the water is collected in the front corner of the tank, you can just siphon out a small amount instead of the whole tank! Good luck! Love the videos!

    Reeds. So when the reeds fail the frequency will push back up through the intake ports and back through the carbs. I think its called the helmholtz frequency. Its the reason everyone tried to make those boost bottles that didn't work. Its why reeds are super important on any two stroke.

    Fuel pickup line in the tank, re-sync carbs and start from scratch there. Possibly bad fuel line other then tank? Other than that maybe a ground wire? When you first get on it leaving your house the tail light is flickering some bad, that makes me feel like its electrical. Just some ideas, i know how easy it is to overlook something simple when you've been wrenching on the same sled for so long! Sold the XLT 600 and Ultra 680 by the way, two old triples that went for a good amount. Glad to see that people still like the wedges even in New Brunswick!

    I think it might be the coils on your stator that make the charge to run your CDI breaking down when they get hot. I have had that happen many times in the past. It could also be a break in one of the wires from the Stator to the CDI but not as likely. If it is the coils breaking down, it will still show spark when you pull the plugs because the pulse coil will make enough juice to make them spark when you pull it over, but not enough to run it at higher rpm. It is easy to be fooled by it because it will show good spark.

    I had this problem once and it was the little tangs that you can bend in your fuel bowl let your float set up a little higher it’s just running itself out a fuel. Happened to me on a quad and maybe that’s it? Mine acted the exact same way. In the manual there was even a diagram with a sea level chart so you could use it as a template when you bend them out

  • @AKproXR

    @AKproXR

    The 440 on a short run course like we had is far better. It’s noticeably lighter, the way it’s setup it handles better (same changes could be made to the 700) the big thing is, the 440 won’t wear someone out like my 700 would. It legitimately takes a lot out of someone to hang onto a sled like that for 10 min + pushing it hard.

    Without the airbox your jetting and needle position will be way off. It will lose quite a bit of power that way because it sucks warm air from under the hood. You could adjust the carbs to run like that but your leaving HP on the table. I would rebuild the fuel pump, replace the reed petals, install new carb boots rebuild the carbs (set float level) and find the proper airbox for that sled. I would then do plug chops at full throttle and at half throttle if you plugs are black lower your needles at full throttle if your plugs are black install a smaller main jet. 1/4 throttle is adjusted with the screws on the carb and they both need to be set the same or carbs will not be synced use a small drill bit to set the slides so they open at the same time when your at idle .

    my bad saw it off but then back on at 12:53 must have missed that, those XCR 440 were one of the the best trail sleds you could get back then. I think that was the first engine Polaris put VES on in 1998. I had one, had to rejet every time the temp changed or it didn't run perfect. I ran the vent lines into the airbox, it made jetting easier. If you like to tinker with jetting and clutching they are fun.

    @@AKproXR check compression but. my 1st thought with these symptoms is check your fuel pressure. Pumps are cheap. If you have the hoses off the carbs, gas should spray out at least 3 inches when you pull the engine over. If it just trickles out get a new pump. Bad compression can also cause this since they work off vacuum on the lower end. Did you check the carb fuel intake screens. Did you check your gas tank fuel filter. Those may be clogged. Kinked vacuum or fuel lines. Old cracked vacuum lines. Just some of the more common things I've seen on these sleds.

    All 440’s are slow as shit in loose snow like that. It is, however one of the slowest sleds I own. I was never a big fan of 440’s, but people seem to love them and think they are faster then they are. I just like how they look LOL.
