Xbox Series X2 Next Gen Release Date in 2026 - Next Generation Console

The Xbox Series X was originally projected and marketed by Microsoft to be the world's most powerful console. Now with 3 years of Xbox Series X games, some set to run at 30frames and Playstation about to announce a PS5 Pro, the need for new consoles is in-demand. But Microsoft may have a totally different approach, and next gen may start earlier than we thought!

And I've always been team xbox but I feel like if I want a premium experience for games like starfield I jus gotta go pc. Will always be xbox first but I feel like Gen hasn't even started amd we are already talking next Gen it just kinda socks

    Yeah this gen is tapped whether people wanna believe it or not. This isn't 10-15 years ago where devs needed years to adapt to custom hardware these are basically PCs that devs were already tapping out before their launch. I mean I got a PC build stronger then the Series X the year the X released and that's not carried me as far as I had hopped as we are seeing games I already have to turn to medium to run smooth 60 fps and in a few cases even thats not enough I have to turn on DLSS or drop to 1080p with medium settings.

  • @SameoldPrimaldata

    @SameoldPrimaldata

    @@arkos4637 so you mean developers haven't figured out how to properly optimize yet. Because that's where headroom comes from optimization. And that's why games look better as developers better learn the hardware, even on PC. New hardware, new software, new screens, it's actually worse now than it was 15 years ago. 15 years ago 1080p was rare but growing, STREAMING was rare but growing, screen frame rates were locked between 30 to 50hz. Now you have HDR, WDR, 240 hz, 1080p to 4k(with 8k on the horizon), VRR and Freesync, all kinds of Audio formats. I'm sorry but there are MORE options to be coded for not less. And THAT is why they are having a hard time nailing things down, but no one wants to admit they are having a hard time keeping up. Even Ray Tracing is new. Remember when Blu ray first came out, they weren't using all the space but claimed they needed more. This is no different

    Sorry, but count me out, Colt. When I first heard you talk about the power of the Series X before launch I was super hyped. You explained all the technobabble about how the X would have special hardware set aside for RT, as well as special components to process different aspects of gaming separately, allowing for 4k 60fps with ray tracing. I got my X one day 1. I was promised 4k 60fps with ray tracing. That didn't happen. I was patient at first because games were being developed for Xbox One as well as the Series. MS went out of their way to fill the void of yet-unreleased games by bumping up the frame rate for older games. But now it's been 2.5 years and we still haven't gotten the games or performance that Big Phil promised. Yes...less than a month from Starfield, but like I said we are 2.5 years in and it's now "beginning". So all this talk about a mid-gen refresh is insulting to me. NOW they want to make another console that can...err...actually do the things that we were told the Series X could do? I'll believe it when I see it. And all this "mid-gen refresh" has taught me is that I should wait until the next mid-gen to upgrade. None of the processing numbers and such mean anything to me now. I was promised an amazing 4k 60fps with ray tracing before I bought this. So far that hasn't happened. I have absolutely zero reason to think it will happen with the next iteration. I love my X. I love GamePass. But I have not been given the performance I was promised. Until I see that happening, I won't be buying anything. No more Day One purchases for me.

    I agree. There last tripleA title (that wasn't a flop like Redfall) was Halo infinite. That was Dec 8th 2021. Also that fall was the only 4 month period they had any such games with Halo, Forza and Psychonauts. Since then it's been a punch of smaller games and live service updates. Not that these games were bad but not what was promised. 2 full years between releases is not okay. And only 3 larger titles in your first 3 years. Even if the new era starts tmrw and is amazing. We can't deny those 3 years happened.

    Well do as you want, someone else will get one and also dont blame Phil for what devs are doing with the console. Most devs arent using all the tools to really push the XSX console mainly by 3rd parties either due to lack of experience, no time to really cater to the xbox version, or not using all resources to try to keep all multiplaform games equal since Sony likes to add parity clauses meaning even if the Xbox versions looked and played better the devs have to lowered the Xbox version just so the PS version doesnt look bad. Also during the first 2 years a lot of Xbox games were cross platform and devs had to split time and resources for XSX and Xbox one.

    @@lukeyrs7447 please don’t quote teraflops, they really don’t mean shit. A 10tflop card compared to a different 10tflop card could be WAY different in actual performance. Flops are good for judging basic compute, but not gaming. A 3060 and a 6700xt both have right about 13tflops and the performance difference is quite large. It really depends on much more than just shader compute performance. The 6700xt has much more cache, a lot more on the front end as well, more ROPs, TMUs, and those matter more in some cases than pure shader count. Ampere doubled the shaders per SM, which increased its higher resolution performance, but didn’t do much of anything for its lower res performance. AMD did not do this, which is why they were behind some in 4K and even or ahead at 1080p. Flops are really useless for gaming performance.

    Nintendo fans are just that, graphics have never really been that big a deal to them as continuing the story lines of said fans favorite characters. They are an outlier not a proof of concept. While MANY gamers evolve their tastes over time, some don't. For the most part Nintendo fans MOSTLY love platformer style gaming. Nothing at all wrong with that but to pretend that translates to ALL action RPG, FPS, 3PS, or Sports gamers is folly. It is time to be realistic about who buys what console/platform and why. Xbox was the online multiplayer shooter box, Playstation was the Third person action adventure box, and Nintendo is the laid back casual fun experience box. As for PCMR those are "Tuner Gamers" many like to build their own rigs, upgrade over time, and possibly be on the bleeding edge of tech. Most of this online debates are cap, people who have too much not, not enough games, and not enough skill to be playing said games they talk about instead of talking trash on the internet. Like I'm doing this online ish on the clock. When I'm gaming I'm gaming, catch ua tomorrow bub

Think about it. They started development on an old engine for older hardware 10 years ago. So we get stuck with 30fps. What gaming needs is faster dev cycles! You have success stories: Rainbow 6 Siege, fortnite, and damn there was another game. Considering we haven't really tapped into the full potential of the current gen, I'm not interested in having to purchase a mid-gen console so it's a big NO from me. The cost of modern gaming is becoming prohibitively more expensive. Luckily I recently bought a powerful Gaming PC which cost me a pretty penny and the bang for my buck that I get from PC vs console is not even close. It kind of boggles my mind how much more expensive it is to buy a game on console vs what it costs on Steam so moving forward I'll be growing my PC library and I'll ride out the current gen until it dies out on Xbox. Console power, for the best graphics available, the best frame rates available and the best sound, is what we all want from a fixed form factor machine. I came from PC to xbox. A console just works hardware and software conflicts which plague PCs from time to time. Whatbis immensely important is the ability through ease of developers to achieve the best possible performance. I enjoy all the games available on xbox but I can get a little frustrated by the current short comings of the series x. I mean, D4 is a beautiful looking game, but on my series X, I still get frame jutter. By this stage, that shouldn't be happening and only demonstrates, we might have the most powerful console available, but if the devs can't access that power, then what's the point. I will buy xbox whether a mid gen refresh or a next gen console, but if they are going to push the power then devs need to be able to easily access that power so it is reflected in the games.

So I get why they want to push out more systems cause they kinda have to in a sense. But it's a shame that many developers don't or can't fully utilize the specs of the xbox systems. Let's face it, developers want things easier for them to deal with given the demands of new games every month/year. Xbox doesnt really need a mid-gen upgrade cuz devs are not using all the tools and resources to really push the XSX console to its potential. As for next-gen they definitely need to do what Sony did with its two SKUs and have them be exactly the same hardware wise with the difference being one SKU is all digital for a lower price and the other has a disc drive in it. We are still seeing ps4 and Xbox one games being developed so I think a new generation is still a ways off. The main problem is that games are taking longer to develop and publishers are pushing early deadlines onto development process which is cutting corners. You can have the best pc hardware right now which is miles ahead of consoles and new games are still full of stutter and issues at launch… hitting it with a bigger hammer (more powerful hardware) is not going to fix anything they need to fix the problem at the source which is allowing the developers more time to optimise the games for each platform….

    My intuition points strongly towards a mid-gen Series X Elite, rather than a 2026 new generation of consoles. A new gen in 2026 would introduce at least one additional SKU for devs to port to on top of the X|S. By contrast, a Series X Elite's architecture would be near identical to the X, so the extra SKU would not inflate dev work as badly as an X2, which would need to be significantly different to the X. Now, one advantage of the new gen approach could be that the Series S2 could be essentially a Series X Slim; the S2's architecture could cleave very closely to that of the Series X. That way, Microsoft could keep their dual-price-point offering, but their 2026 consoles would only add one additional SKU into the mix. Moreover, by 2026 devs would have 6+ years of experience working with the Series X, so this might lessen the developmental headaches of porting to two consoles.

    The PS5 having a much larger market share, is the reason why the PS5 is a much higher priority for developers. Third party games are not designed around the largely untapped abilities of the Series X, so the game would require much more of a rewrite for the Xbox than just porting the code which is already there. And as I've said elsewhere, it would appear that porting the PC code to the Xbox Series of consoles to properly tap its strength, is more work for developers than just porting to a different PC build, and it shouldn't be. The Xbox Series ports won't likely improve that much until Xbox can shrink the distance between their consoles and Sony's. Improve that and improve the XDK so that developers don't have to spend as much time optimizing the console port, and there'll be more of a difference. Otherwise we'll be seeing similar in the next generation.

    I mean 2026 is 3 years away! If people aren't ready for a new generation 6 years into the generation when we are ALREADY seeing terrible image quality in performance modes in games like Jedi Survivor, FF 16, Remnant 2 etc. These consoles were a powerhouse for cross generation games back in 2020 and 2021 but people need to be a little bit more realistic with the capabilities of these machines.

    Good grief screw "8K"... It's so unrealistic at this point. Especially for a console. They need to worry about the frame rate, not the resolution. Hell I wish they would makes 1440p or even 1080p to get more frames. 8K is a waste of all that power I have no clue what Microsoft was thinking with the Series S. Yes, it's more affordable but they skimped out on the GPU & RAM too much. It should have had a 6 Teraflop GPU & at least 16GB of RAM. It's not like Microsoft doesn't have the money to take the loss. They should have just made both the Series X & S much more powerful & looked at the money lost like a marketing expense. If Microsoft had launched a 24 Teraflop Series X & a 12 Teraflop Series S, they would be annihilating Sony this generation. That alone would be more effective than a million marketing campaigns.
