    Same with GameCube. I'll never forget Nintendos Space World 2000 show. I'll never forget that footage between Link and Ganondorf fighting. I thought that was the most technological advancement in rendering I've ever seen. In my mind that was far better than Dreamcast, and im lifelong devoted Dreamcast fanatic. I watched that demo an innumerable amount of times. Crazy we have rendering now that far exceeds that.

    I think people are getting a little tired of Xbox overpromising and under-delivering. They promised the "most powerful console" this generation but the Series X performs identically (for the most part) against the PS5, sometimes better and sometimes even worse. What we need is more games and better quality games, then they might actually sell some units. What's the point of having the best hardware if there aren't enough games to play on it? @@bamban_garcia5562 the problem is Sony's parity clauses, banning improvements to a game by virtue of it running on more powerful, competing hardware. Looking purely at the numbers, the Xbox Series X holds a 40% advantage over PS5 in graphics processing power, yet you see none of that, no higher resolution, no smoother frame rates, nada, because Sony doesn't allow it. Microsoft didn't/doesn't have such clauses, which is why last-gen games virtually always looked and ran better on the PS4, compared to the Xbox One. For me, if I were a game developer, such clauses would mean dropping PlayStation as a platform, sales be damned, because I refuse to produce a game that doesn't make the most of the hardware platform it runs on. For last gen, that would have meant, assuming I limited the platform support to just Xbox and Playstation, I would have four slightly different versions of a game, with Xbox One X running at 4K60, PS4 Pro at 1800p60, PS4 at 1080p60 and the base Xbox at, probably, 720p60, depending on what the actual hard limits are for the game in question. If you approach this situation like you'd do for PC games, which have countless hardware variations, you won't necessarily be doing any extra work outside of QA testing each version, so it's not like it's too much effort (unless you're not planning a PC version, though just taking the PC approach even for consoles may make sense if you'd want to optimize for each configuration)

    I wonder if this relates to the talks about “Xbox as a PC”, with more open system to include other stores. Especially if they figure out a way to run PC-only and DOS based games on Xbox… That could arguably be a huge leap from the console perspective (tho obviously not from PC perspective)

  • @G360LIVE

    @G360LIVE

    3 ай бұрын

    "Xbox as a PC" would simply be a PC with the Xbox name on it. Seriously, it wouldn't make sense for Microsoft to spend the money to make two versions of a game (Xbox version and PC version) when they only need to make a PC version. That would bring costs down a bit. And since Xbox One games are already available on PC, Microsoft would only have to do three things: 1) Make an OG Xbox and Xbox 360 emulator for PC to bring back compat games over to PC, 2) Give owners of Xbox One digital games a free copy of their games on PC to bring their Xbox One library forward, and 3) Merge Xbox Game Pass with PC Game Pass. That's it. And if Microsoft does do "Xbox as a PC", then the closed Xbox platform would be gone, and Xbox online gaming would become free (because PC users won't pay for online gaming, as they've shown Microsoft in the past).

Xbox brings Steam to the all the millions of console players and the ability to play on their PC, their PC handheld, their Xbox on their home TV. • @vullord666

    @vullord666

    3 ай бұрын

    That's just... wrong. You can say their first party output is bad, but they've put out far FAR more first party games than Sony and I think even more than Nintendo since 2020 (in terms of first party exclusives alone definitely less than Nintendo but still more than Sony even with the four going multiplatform). Sony's first party output in comparison has been abysmal. Again, much greater argument in terms of quality which is subjective and Sony tends to please larger audiences more. But in terms of output you must actually be joking. Just search a list of first party games Xbox put out in the past 4 years. In 2021 they were metacritics highest rated publisher. And it's not like it's all AA or AAA games either. 2023 alone: Hi Fi Rush, Age of Empires 2 and 4 DE (ported to console/both also released this gen to PC tho), Minecraft Dungeons, Redfall, Starfield, Forza Motorsport, and that's all the while ignoring live service updates. In comparison Sony's ONLY first party release (again ignoring destiny 2 live service) was Spider-Man 2. Actually I think there was also Horizon DLC. Maybe something for VR too but that's it. Xbox has the output nailed to be honest. I think they need to stop all their studios from releasing in the fall (seriously forcibly delay games to have stuff in the spring if you need to 😂) and they need to do more for quality control (they seem to have trouble finding the sweet spot between hands off and micromanaging), but the sheer quantity is there. Especially now that the PC studios are unified under Xbox and games go both ways. 2021was similarly insane between psychonauts 2, Forza horizon, halo infinite, flight sim, and I think Minecraft dungeons (forget when it dropped). 2020 and 2022 saw quieter but still great releases. And no "that's from buying studios and publishers" isn't an argument against that. People seem to have this really incorrect memory with Xbox. Prior to their buying spree (which started around 2015) they had less than HALF the studios of Sony and Nintendo. Their first party and in house focus was abysmal and then so many of those were fragmented between Xbox and PC. Say what you want, but internally they really turned things around and that's really shined through in their current output. Microsoft went from wanting to cut off Xbox at every earnings call to investing more in it than any business, and now Microsoft Gaming (another unification effort) is the biggest game company by employee number. Xbox Game Studios alone (so ignoring Zenimax and ABK) has become a strong force to reckon with but even that is only because of studio acquisitions. Like even prior to their closing studios like Lionhead, they never had that much in-house development studios. Tl;dr: What are you smoking 😂

    In order to really be the biggest generational leap ever, it would have to render next gen path tracing @4K 120FPS natively (NO upscaling/frame gen/ai reconstruction) in more than 80% of all the games launched during that generation. In late 2028/early 2029 Nvidia would have the RTX 7000 series in the market, so native 4K path tracing should be easy for that time, and 120hz TVs will have more than 10 years in the market, so they will be pretty much the standard/common tech.

It sounds ridiculous that that could happen but that's what happened this generation. Hellblade 2 looks like it's going to be the first Xbox exclusive that really looks and feels next gen and that's coming out 3.5 years after the series x launched. We're probably going to be getting Sony first party games on the PS5 pro that look better than what will be early cross gen games coming out on the new Xbox at the same time.

    There is literal no possible way they beat snes to n64, that’s a factor of 50. That would be enough to create perfect realism at 120 fps 8k with no optimization from the devs, they would never have to make another console again. They could do a tenth of that and it would be serviceable forever. Also, it’s impossible.

They want to make their games more widely accessible, and the biggest money earners are on everything from mobile to switch to Xbox One to series X/PS5. People are probably more excited by the prospect of running console quality games on their iPhone 15 than any power gains the next Xbox can promise.
