If Xbox doesn't make money why would any of the investors or shareholders care about them existing. Also that is not how you lose money, because evidently, Microsoft made 20 billion profit. After they bought Activision they made MS gaming, that have underdivisions Xbox, Bethesda, Activision and King. So she have not reall impact on all studios (especially in term of closing studios there should be Bethesda CEO) but still she have impact on old Xbox studios and future hardware and software.
Interviewer: "Why did you close Tango?, they just made a hit game" Sarah: "You know, videogames, because we love art, yeah, we like games". Me: ANSWER THE DAMN QUESTION!

They didn't build Rare, Minecraft, Candy Crush, Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls, Fallout (even Bethesda didn't build Fallout), Doom, Hellblade, Psychonauts, or just about anything they are trying to be known for at this point. Talentless hacks gotta buy it once others already did the hard part of making it, and look how quickly it turns to shit the moment they have to own the management decisions. They just wanted to pocket the money and the IP, they have no idea how to actually run a studio. The closest they came to the Sony or Nintendo approach was with Halo and Gears of War, and those studios turned tail as soon as they were able... Microsoft is absolutely repulsive, and not just to us gamers/customers, but to their talent and business partners as well

@@cosmosofinfinity yes, and nintendo and sony are repulsive for different but similar reasons. the power wielded by companies that own walled gardens is a guaranteed betrayal in the end. this is why you don't let power accrete. even if the dictator seems like a good guy today (ahem VALVE), they WILL turn you into a product and the enshittification WILL happen as soon as they run out of market to saturate. Since these companies are pushed to grow as fast as the GDP, emerging markets, and emergent properties of new tech will bear, that saturation will happen sooner rather than later. they're burning the candle, and there will be an end.

Xbox boss: Well look at the mess Sony are in due to ever increasing costs vs profit, they last released a First Party AAA exclusive in 2023(one for the whole year) their next AAA First Party title dosent release until at least March 2025. I really think they are jumping the gun here. I mean they don't have ABK library on GP yet, and there are a pile of upcoming games. Why they can't wait a year to see how things shake up is baffling. If Nintendo gave up after the WiiU they wouldn't have the Switch. This was Xbox best chance to get some market momentum back their way with Sony's troubles.

We haven't a single answer here... It's incredible how Sarah just walk around the topics and avoid to say a thing that make sense. The cloud gaming growths answers were hard to watch... She clearly don't have a clue about the numbers and just said that it's "good".
This is so sad. Witnessing Sega stepping out of the console business was heartbreaking, but seeing Microsoft committing the same mistakes is just infuriating. They learnt nothing.

Sega realized that the DreamCast just couldn't compete with the PS2 and so the company quit selling consoles and instead focused on games and merchandise. Conversely, Microsoft has become too risky adverse and creatively bankrupt. Instead of investing in more first party titles to entice more players to buy Xboxes, they've instead started playing safe and have been gobbling up any studio they get their hands on. They've found success with Gamepass, but it doesn't seem like a very sustainable business model in the long run.
Give her a chance guys, Sarah Bond has been learning English for like 2 months in Duolingo. If anything i feel she did a great job making coherent statements loosely related to the subject at matter.
Sold my Xbox X when the policing of chat started & not purchasing any MS products.
That was a whole lotta nothing.

@@urameshi4725Jim Ryan was awful and almost ruined PlayStation with his approach to having sonys great single player studios work on long term multiplayer projects. Thankfully he was thrown out after it was clear that was a dumb idea and before it could do serious harm to the brand.
This is painful to watch. You can tell she is uncomfortable but she has to sit there and regurgitate talking points while also shifting into marketing their mobile store. Yikes

Agree with everything you said. I have been vocal against Microsoft and their leadership for years and frustrated at all the recent decisions but I still feel secondhand anxiety. I don't envy them right now.

I think any CEO or president would have struggled with those questions in the position they are in right now. I think they were expecting major fallback in market sentiment when they announced those closures. They will probably play it off next month with that game showcase with saying COD into gamepass. I just don’t know if it will be day and date for the new cod. What i did notice in tough positions they always throw a bone to fans. They did it last time where they then decided to announce Diablo 4 in gamepass and tried to do it now as well with saying that digital store front launch in the next couple months. Kinda weird.

That means it definitely made enough money to keep the studio afloat, so Tango Gameworks was most certainly shut for other reasons. If I were to guess the reason, it'd be because Microsoft/Xbox wanted to save as much money as possible when choosing which studios to shutter and Tango weren't very far into development on their next game which means there wouldn't have been as large of a lost investment if that game were canned along with the studio. Hell, the common theme among these shuttered studios seems to be that they didn't have any big projects lined up or in full-scale production, so I'd guess that's the biggest deciding factor.

Have you seen how much Candy Crush makes? Obviously not, and own store means no cut to Apple or Google. And that was a huge reason they bought ABK because of Kings expertise in mobile industry. And just for final thoughts last I heard well over 70% of the gaming industry total revenue is from mobile gaming. This and PC the biggest growing sector in gaming

I don't think Phil meant to lie. At least not like this. Microsoft should never purchased ABK. Things were looking up a bit early in this gen, and FINALLY we are getting what looks like a decent line up. Too little, too late though. I think the big issue is that these decisions are now going beyond Phil, Matt, and Sara. They are coming fro, the top at Microsoft. The deal was too big. Now investors and the high ups actually care about Xbox. I think Phil might resign soon to wash his hands of this crap.
