My PlayStation Premium has let me play through some the of best experiences ever, experiences I would never have had without it as I would never they those sorts of games, “Until Dawn”, Devil in Me”, “God of War 3”, Uncharted Series” etc. then games that my normal sort after games I buy as normal. The last 6 months I’ve had my best gaming years ever, “Baldurs’s Gate 3” and now I’m playing my joint favourite games of all time “the Witcher 3” that next gen update had been amazing for me, and they provide that to us for free. Last year I also had Cyberpunk 2077 phantom Liberty again one of my next experiences. What is so bad exactly. It’s lost on me? What exactly is so bad, people complain about bugs now, you kids have no idea, back in the day games had loads of problems and there were no patches then. Forget the big names, there were plenty of terrible games that are forgetting in time.

Matty you hit the nail on the head… I only use Game Pass occasionally but kept it because it was always so easy to get a deal on stacking my subscription long term. Now that it will be $15 to $20 a month once my current subscription ends, it will be time to just cancel it and maybe sub for a month every once in a while. The price change doesn’t necessarily make me mad or anything. It just made the decision to cancel that much easier.

It isn't though, people who were also "rational and plugged into business making decisions" said the same thing about Microsoft's jump to a subscription model for Office products when Office 365 became their primary focus. Now Office 365 in some form or another is used at pretty much every company small to large. Microsoft is a services company and subscriptions have scalability - Not saying Xbox doesn't have work to do to make it more successful, but the model itself absolutely is sustainable, the proof is already there.

More than half of its games would be in the $5 bin at Gamestop back in 2015. I am willing to bet that if all of the games on Game Pass were in physical format (and accounting for the bear market curve of a games price from release), that all of the games would cost $1500 or less if you bought them all physical.

My biggest issue (which is reoccurring with Xbox) is that they keep overpromising and then when reality hits they just go back on their word with no explanation or communication. Anyone could've told them having CoD was gonna add to the price for it to be profitable. But they keep insisting on building the plane in the air with no long term goal or strategy. Day one on game pass was their thing, and now they're adding caveats and price hikes. Not a good spot to be in rn.

Buying games i'm actually going to play at a discount >>> sub services And i do think a lot of people feels this way, specially on PC where generations are not clearly defined. Many of us have built a backlog of hundreds of titles on Steam so just getting a game a couple of games at full price and waiting for the rest to drop is better than just having the games on essentially a rent service.

Just deleted my Game Pass Ultimate sub. Us Aussies have seen, counting this coming one, three price hikes. It now costs 24 bucks locally. I think I might just buy a month here and there just to try new release games, but almost 25 bucks is waaaay to much for me.

XBOX Game Pass Core from $60 to $75 that’s ridiculous. Been on Xbox since the beginning this is how we get treated, should of least grandfathered us into the $60 price like they have done before for us old heads.

Getting the Xbox series X seems like a bad idea all of a sudden. I never used any consoles before this. I didnt do enough research to know that we need an active subscription to play multiplayer for the games that we already purchased and owned. Welp.. I guess the F2P games have to do for now. And for context Im from a 3rd world country with an ongoing economic crisis, so the prices do hit hard.

I've been buying physical games, films and music and minding my business. I have no game related subscriptions and do not plan to.

Has anyone else noticed, that NO ONE is mentioning if EA Play will still be included with Ultimate?

The Game Pass Core hike is pure greed. They knew people would dump Ultimate and go for the basic just to play online, that is the ONLY reason it went up. Core is basically mandatory if you have an Xbox and want to play online, so they can price it however much they want.

Once again, Microsoft confuses with all the different tiers and classes and changing existing classes. If only the console names and Game Pass system were much more simple, it would go a long way in having success. My suggestion: * only 1 tier of Game Pass, sign up once, and get access to console and pc, no different tiers either * only 1 console per generation and a unique name, not this confusing mess Not every game has to be day one on Game Pass. It would still be useful thing to have.

That's the route I'm going to eventually go down. Once this AI thing has taken route in PC hardware and next gen approaches I'll build a decent one and get off console. You get back the cost of building a higher spec PC in discounts and lower game prices in general anyway.

A while back I max stacked when Ultimate was 10 per month. In the last few years I loved getting Psychonauts 2, Lies of P, and Cocoon day one. P3R was ok, but I wouldn't have bought it full price. Other than that it's been full of stuff I didn't care about, or games that didn't turn out very good. There has been so many months I don't even use Gamepass that I have probably paid triple what it would cost to own what I did play (and actually enjoyed)and I won't have anything to show for it. My sub runs out next April and I wasn't willing to pay 10 anymore a year ago, and we have had two price hikes since then.

Yeah I don’t think XBOX is prepared for how many people are going to un-sub. Their new games are mid at best, they lie, they struggle to maintain consistency, and if they’ve given up on their consoles, so have I. I've had it for 4 years...for me there's not enough good games anymore for me to keep it. I can buy games on sale, many that aren't even on gamepass anyway too. Don't care about Starfield or CoD

Raising the price is a sure fire way to make me stop buying gamepass. At this rate I might as well just buy all the games I use gamepass for. I'd save a shit load of money in the long run and its one less customer for Xbox to suck dry. But we can be certain ladies and gents, this is not the last price hike we will see.

Like this month alone there is flintlock, dungeons of hinterburg and a few other game pass games. On top of some other nice enough perks. It's like ya if your only playing a handful of triple a games each year maybe but even then like 2 triple as is like 120-140$ so 120-100 dollars cheaper, you add just 1 more triple A game it's now only 60-30 dollars cheaper. Add in any more triple a games or even just 1 or 2 indies and now your paying more. So like he said it's all about how often you use game pass and how you use it

That’s exactly what they want. Xbox knows that Gamepass has conditioned its audience into not buying games. At least at the rate that they used to before the subscription launched.

I expected this increase, and it made me look into how much do I ACTUALLY use gamepass, especially the ultimate version. My conclusion? ONE game. I play ONE game on gamepass. I still own all of my games. So it's looking like a very possible switch to the basic core version for me.

My biggest issue is that if Microsoft was really concerned with trying to herd more users towards ultimate, then they could have just dropped the day 1 releases for GP console, there was no need to drop features and increase prices buy over 20% simultaneously. This move is in no way designed to drive up subscriber counts, it will almost certainly accomplish the opposite, this move is meant to milk the current users.

As a more casual gamer these days it just feels like Xbox is pushing me towards PC. I enjoy the simplicity of turning on my console and playing right away without managing my device, but 17 to 20 is decent jump. Unless Xbox makes a public statement saying they will only raise game pass by x amount every year I'm not sure it worth it. Will 3 dollars a month break the bank? No, but everything is always going up and some people need to save. If Xbox standardized 3 dollar increases in 5years we would be looking at $35 a month

Game Pass always felt like a trap to me. People dump hundreds, if not thousands of dollars into that service, and they will have nothing to show for it when the subscription ends. No games on their shelves, nothing in their library.

I don’t really mind dropping gamepass ultimate once my prepaid months are finished, but that price just for online is ludicrous.

There are countless sales of games on Playstation, Switch, GOG and Steam. Switch and GOG allows full ownership of games. Physical media & DRM-free digital. So why pay more subscriptions?

Meh they’d have to realise games I give a toss about and that’s not happened since Starfiled and that game can burn for all I care so they can charge what they want I’m not wasting my time… yes I’m a grumpy old man

I have an Xbox series x and don't have game pass. I just have core just got a Year's card because I mostly just play call of duty. I was excited to get gamepass ultimate to play the new call of duty Black ops 6 but for 20 bucks a month for game pass ultimate I'll just purchase call of duty Black ops 6. But i really want to get a PC and move away from consoles. I think forced pay to play online has destroyed consoles. Call of duty Black ops 6 is an always online game so I don't think you can even play the campaign without gamepass core which is unacceptable.

It's almost like giving away your games for free day one DOESNT make you money, and lowering the quality of your exclusives because you give them away for free day one DOESNT entice people to sign up for your lackluster exclusives.... Weird. Who could have seen this coming and been predicting it since they started this idea?

On year vs monthly payment, the main pro with a yearly payment is you'll be protected from price increases for that year vs monthly, who could see price rises

Xbox has the problem I had when I was a kid. A million choices and nothing would stick in my memory (In the days of playstation 1 a converted one with I dont know how many game) Every game and basicly also other products I bought with my own money after saving for it felt like I had an emotional connection with it. Even my friends who you could hardly call gamer only play 1 hour of game before hopping on to the next train.

Ya I’ve seen the game jumping phenomenon as well, the days of being personally invested are long gone.

I don't know about xbox. But since they raised the price on playstation plus. I've been thinking about canceling. They on't offer enough games that I play to justify the cost. I'm thinking about just spending the money on steam. I collect games in my wish list and when I feel like playing a new game I'll look there. But if I stop spending it on playstation, I can just buy the cheapest on the list each month for the same money.

Why does it feel like the Game Pass model is going to collapse?

I buy games through steam and gog, I dont find it enticing, neither doing it to playing new games, when I can play old games with better quality than the new ones

I believe that MS thinks that, while this change won't necessarily drive subscription growth, the games that they release onto the service will help offset losses.

Brazil's local price is actually localized, which is a nice change, it would be twice the price it was previously if it were just a currency exchange rate conversion.

I bought my son a 3 month game pass, not knowing any of this and he needs his game pass but he can't even use his card to redeem. Now what? 🤦‍♀️

260 dollars a year is a wild price to rent games. That's gonna be a no from me dawg.

So $20 a month. 12 months in a year thats $240 a year. I have a ps5 and i typically only buy at the most 3 games a year because gaming hasnt been great lately games now are $70 (which they shouldnt be) but thats only $210 a year for me. Im not really seeing the benefit of gamepass unless u wont to play old games as well. As to which I definitely dont want to do because gaming had been stale and im sick of the remakes/remasters of old games and re releases in favor of new great games that actually use the tech if the systems that I payed for.

Gamepass is only good if you plan on playing and finishing a game then move on to another, when done, simply cancel and wait for a new game thatll interest you. Its what i do to streaming services like netflix, binge watch then cancel.

People who are interested in old games can get tons of them extremely cheap without the subscription service as well. Old Xbox games have generally always been dirt cheap, physically or digitally.

Also, I don't think GP has been stagnant, but rather peeps have now seen all the back catalog the service has, even if they haven't played them, and are constantly waiting for new releases.

Honestly this is just a great way to convince even more people to go to their competitors. Like if you're going to do anti-consumer actions in the open while your competitors hide it behind pro-consumer actions, then you really should be considering who needs to get the ax in the company so you can have that fall guy when it inevitably fails.

if world worked like then netflix would be long out of buisness . also who says nintendo and sony are any better ? nintendo has 2 options either fork 20 dollars for snes games / online play ( fork 35 dollars if u want to share this sub with other people ) and if u for any reason want to play retro games that dont feel archaic like the snes games then u have to fork over an additional 30 dollars for n64 games u have to pay 80 dollares if u plan to share this sub if u want to play gba / game cube / wii / nds games well to bad because they dont exist anymore . on the other hand compare this to xbox giving u most of its entire back library from xbox to xbox series x for 15 dollars a month is a somewhat fair ask .

I think what's gonna be a big problem is the same think video streaming services are battling with - people subscribing only for a month or two, in this case to play the one or two games they are interested in, and then cancelling their subscription again (or rather not renew it). This would be especially costly with expensive AAA titles.

It's about how much people are willing to pay I suppose. It's 15 pounds a month here in the uk. I'm willing to pay that for the games I've gotten to play. If it goes up again though to 18 or 20. I might reconsider. I have enough of a backlog on pc to not care.

Keeping my gamepass. I must be the only person really happy with being able to try out 1000s of games for a small monthly sub. We are a big family, so there's something for everyone. I still buy games and DLC. The discount is good on that too. And cloud gaming (without having to manage the 1Tb storage )

You pay for access to hundreds of games, not just CoD. If you play 20+ games a year, say each game 30$ average that's 600$ total. It's still cheaper to have game pass. Simple math everyone should do before subscribing. Also you can play CoD for month and get bored and you just pay 20$ instead of 70$.

@@11nesz11 it’s not a terrible deal if you’re someone who doesn’t mind renting and has time to play everything on game pass. If you have a job or family and can’t play that many games, it’s probably not that great of a deal. We will see if it works out for them but I think at some point, a person who only has time to play games for an hour or 2 a day is not going to think it’s worth it. That’s a lot of people and if they want to grow game pass, I’m not sure pricing those people out is the best move. I could be wrong though.

Compare Xbox at their peak during the 360 era, to what they have become. The fall from grace has been jaw dropping.

Hey Matty, how much did you spend for that cool game tower to the right? I got one that holds 120 games but that one looks like an upgrade.

MS is smart, I give them that. Smart to close the loopholes that everyone seems to want to exploit. What's going to be even more interesting is once they increase the price again and on top of that charge you for mtx in call of duty etc. So essentially, what will happen is they will double dip on those people play COD. Once to have GP to play that D1 and then with the mtx. I'm curious when will people see that it is no longer worth it in terms of price vs content. They will have to increase GP because they are giving D1 games that are sometimes AAA, or what they will do is only release so many AAA games yearly so the gamer never gets more for what they would pay yearly. As an example $240 is roughly 3 $70 games. It would not be beneficial to release more than 3 games yearly so essentially the playerbase is paying $70 per game.

Gamepass also has rewards for playing games on gamepass so you could earn some money back

Nothing changes for me, but I understand if $20 if too much. I already have it in my head my limit, I'll pay as much as $25, anything past that and I'm out. Remember gamepass can also be shared, with MW3, BO6, Avowed, Indiana Jones and more coming, it's a no brainer.

For core/standard game pass, when does day one games get released on it?

My guess is a year.

I play like 10 games a year, some of these games i play with my wife, who plays off my account. My kids play on the cloud. The price increase sucks, but its still a fantastic value for me.

This has gotten to be too much. I'm officially out. When my GPU sub runs out, I'm not renewing. I'll just go back to periodic 1-month subs where I binge play just the things I want and will time it with the new season of my preferred online game of choice. But I'll be going 10/12 months without a sub.

Raising the price, making the subscriptions more numerous, confusing, and convoluted, and all at a time when Xbox is struggling - nice. Surely this won't backfire on Microsoft.

The problematic point for me is that this type of announcement comes before any information about ABK games coming to game pass. For example, for those who are from Xcloud, we still face queues, ABK games are not enough for us (Diablo IV), and probably won't even arrive. So, who is from Xcloud is getting what more? We can't buy our games to create our own game libraries, and right now, we're being sidelined by a likely future handheld project. Game Pass is still a good service, but I feel like they're dealing with different demands and audiences, and they can't deliver the proper attention to every audience.

Im a long term subscriber and $240 a year just isnt worth it , ive had to purchase most of the new games anyways because they aren't on gamepass , the price hike was the final straw.

The new ultimate price is $240 per year. The minimum to have multiplayer on console is $75. If you take out the lowest teir it comes to $13.75 a month and pc game pass is $12 a month without cloud streaming. They are charging a similar amout for both ultimate and pc game pass, it's charging you for multiplayer that costs so much.
