I don’t understand why producers (movie or otherwise) have been making such an effort to remove Judeo-Christian influence from Indiana Jones. I feel like that was such an interesting aspect of it. Personally I think Raiders and Crusade were the best of the lot and they put such an interesting spin on Judeo-Christian artifacts and what they might do. Even the Temple of Doom had a more supernatural, otherworldly aspect to it. This move to more science-fiction, technology theme kinda kills the magic for me. Idk if I’m in the minority or not that’s just my own personal take on the trend of the franchise.

Isn't the Holy Grail story Anglo-Christian? Early Anglo-Christian stuff is utterly fascinating but totally neglected in the modern era. That whole Glastonbury area of England is permeated by history and legend (the Grail, Arthurian legends, the site of the first Christian church under direction of Joseph of Arimathaea, also possible ties to even more ancient sites like Stonehenge). I bring all that up to show that there's some amazing stuff to work with but that would require on the part of any writers some level of reverence and awe for history, religion (especially Christianity), and just plain old mystery. I think "modern" writers are broken people who can't fundamentally feel these things (especially about anything in real life) for some reason and they are often even hostile to them.

I would say the grail would be more Anglo-Christian but my overall point is that part of what made Indiana Jones so fun and interesting, at least for me, was the more supernatural, religious mystery behind these objects most simply label as dusty antiques. It really is a shame how much modern writers just completely disrespect this area. Like you said there are so many different avenues they can take that would harken back to those great movies.

Who is genuinely interested in Hellblade 2 at this point? I haven't spoken to a single person interested in it. Barely anybody cared about the first one. The amount of times Humble Bundle has thrown it into some kind of bundle tells me that barely anybody cared about it. What pissed me the most in the Ara: Untold history footage was how smug all the characters look, everyone have this face like they just did some mischevious thing and are expecting people to notice it so they can get attention. But I guess that artistic choice shouldn't surprise me looking at the developers

If this is all we're getting from Xbox, it's proof mega acquisitions are more destructive than anything. Forget the woke stuff for a second & look at what's happened: they bought Bethesda & got all the studios who made Doom, The Evil Within, Rage, Fallout etc. & what do we get 3 years later? Redfall, Starfield, a shitty looking Skyrim/Aveum/Outer Worlds bastard child (Avowed)... & first person Indiana Jones. It's freaking disgusting. Xbox has screwed itself via mismanagement.

@@mackncheese1683 The scope is already impacted though. I mean people praise Hif-Fi Rush but it's a far smaller effort than The Evil Within. Where's the new Doom? What about the people who made Rage 2? Redfall was a disaster (& that's on MS for having zero oversight or quality control on their acquired assets). I mean think about it, as I said "if this is all we're getting from Xbox" (aka for 2024, which is the case if the Dev Direct show is anything like the 2023 show which showcased Redfall, Starfield, Forza & HFR), then going into 2025 the Bethesda deal would have generated practically zilch in terms of quality releases. That also explains why the brand is struggling right now because the studios they're relying on aren't punching their weight (& I think budgets could be constrained as well). COD & Activision won't save Xbox.

When there's a developer, director, actor, talking about "modern audiences" while wearing a shirt that has political messaging on it, you know it's going to be garbage. They don't care about your fun, they care about their propaganda and feeding people ideas through media. Which is stupid because the majority of people reject it, so it's kind of like nerfing their own sales. I'm not even disappointed about Indiana Jones not being on PS5 anymore, and I'm a big fan of pre-Disney Lucasfilm.

The new mana game is absolutely gonna be a far better game than anything else showcased here. Trials mana was one of the best remake I've ever seen, even if everyone agrees it was cheaply made

Modern Gaming Audience. What that title implies and why regular gamers hate the term and should be avoided if you're a developer. 1. Spectacle over gameplay. Visuals can be fun to look at, but thats it. They are only there to look at, go ooh and ahh for two seconds or slightly more then move on. If you put it mostly spectacle in the game and less of the actual gameplay, the game will become boring very fast. 2. Abandoning the roots. Modernity always has the same trend. They axe the roots of what made the franchise what it was and inject stuff in that doesn't make sense in the franchise to subvert expectations. While gamers are usually open to such ideas at times, if you abandon the roots of a beloved franchise, the fans of the franchise will be especially upset. 3. Pandering and Woke politics. Its not a secret anymore that anything that's marketed to a 'modern audience' is full of pandering, inoffensive humor and political discussions that are insufferably woke and highly geared to the radical left wing side while demonizing the right wing side, radical or not. 4. Propaganda. Its a part two of 3, but it should be said so its not jumbled up in word salad. The person who said it'll be made for a modern audience gives me the vibe of someone who claims they are oppressed in society, while injecting their own views into media and being praised for it. Live and let live if you wish, but a developer touting the features like painted fingernails, feminine styles and rainbow pins, shirts and flags should tell you wokeness is a guarantee. 5. Movie game over video game. A movie game is more different than a video game. Video games are purely gameplay, engaging and giving you agency. A movie game gives the illusion of a video game, but the cutscenes are the main focus. Minutes and minutes of cutscenes, sometimes unskippable. Many modern audience titles shoot out these movie games like Spiderman 2 or God of War Ragnarok or even the Last of Us 2. 6. Unlikeable/butchered characters. A modern audience game, especially one with an existing franchise, tends to either make a extremely unlikeable character You're supposed to sympathize with, or make the main character you play as extremely flawed to the point you know they aren't supposed to act like that. Or in some cases, even both. Peter Parker in Spiderman 2 is a good example. The game portrays him as incompetent, neglectful to his girlfriend, and careless. In comparison to Miles, who is confirmed to replace Peter in the new games, where some either dont like or dont mind Miles, but dont want him to be the main Spiderman. 7. Ego-filled devs. A lot of dev teams of modern titles after or before or even during release would come across criticism of their game. The normal response would be to respond to the feedback in a respectful manner or not at all. The devs of these modern titles do not. They accuse the critics of being hateful bigots, tell them claims like 'Don't like it, don't buy it', and shit talk old fans of the franchise. While this would plummet their product and their business in some cases down the toilet, it should still be taken into account the ego the devs of the modern titles have. And those are the reasons why I will never trust a title with the introduction of 'For a Modern Audience'. I was fooled once by the new Star Wars, then by the new Saints Row. Never ever again.

Microslop truly delivering with these instant classics, a bunch of Sony style movie "games", putting Todd Coward in the spotlight right after releasing goyslop of 2023 and his crew preaching about MADERN AUDIENSESSSSS.

Hate that I go to School currently with people who are going to work in the gaming industry in the future. The students are just like these current devs. gaming is about to be ruined even more 😭. (Had to go make friends at the regular university near by, cause I can't stand these ppl here)

Bro I saw it live, it was so horrible. Hellblade looks like shit which I expected, that new Obsidian game looks pretty bad and Indiana Jones was so fucking disappointing.

I wish i could travel back in time watching my younger self playing PS2 for the first time, shine in the eyes, MGS2, DMC 1, God of War 1, my first Gran Tourismo 3 round, the first battle in FFX, killing Demons in Onimusha… Or unboxing my first Xbox 360 playing NFS Most Wanted beeing happy and astonished by the graphics, talking to others online for the first time, grinding Gears, Halo or CoD I experienced the best times in gaming. Gaming these day is dead like culture, common sense, politics or movies…

Actually i love the Mana games since FF Adventure on the Gameboy and looking forward to Visions of Mana but you were spot on on the rest of the games.

Avowed is incredibly disappointing. It does indeed look like a VR Game. I literally had has that same exact thought while watching.

I was highly suspicious when I saw images of an Indiana Jones game this morning. Fortunately I saw Mr “Modern Gaming” immediately after so I knew not to get my hopes up.

So 4 games, one is emulating the Sony movie game, the other is a generic fantasy rpg that looks boring to play, the other is a licenced Indiana Jones that has Kathleen Kennedy's mark all over it and the other is basically Civilization and is PC only instead of being on XBOX and oh yes a Mana sequel that no one but 10 people will play, great.

Making games fun seems to sink lower and lower on the aaa development priority ladder. More excited for "Hades 2" than any big development project set for release this year.

As soon as I Saw that dude, I knew it was doomed. And then he said "Modern audience" which doesn't exist so when translated into actual English: we made a game we like and will attack you when you tell us it's bad and don't buy it, so we'll call you all bigots instead of producing a good product"

Animations in avowed look extremely stiff, the type of thing we would expect from a game like Skyrim in 2011, I remember outerworlds being like that but since most combat in that game was ranged it wasn't as noticeable. That stiffness from the npcs combined with the melee combat the looks weightless and un-impactful is what is giving it the VR game feeling (also the art direction looks very VR-like). It feels like obsidian hasn't moved very far past the new vegas era of animation quality.

I want Avowed to be good. I’ve really enjoyed the Pillars of Eternity ip in the past, but I agree that the combat looks like it lacks weight or seems kinda floaty to me. I like how colorful and vibrant the setting looks, but I’m hoping that they tighten up that melee combat, in particular. Indiana Jones, I have little interest in. For me, there are only 3 movies in that franchise, but maybe I’m just being too blackpilled on it.

Stellar blade is the only game that looks interesting , right now

Microsoft really fumbled their bootleg attempt at a Nintendo Direct At least with Nintendo Directs, they'll announce multiple game coming to their current platform whether it be a 1st party Nintendo game or a game made by a 3rd party developer

My first thought watching the Avowed footage was that it looked like a VR Game; the description of it being a VR title minus the VR is spot on.

My hype for that Indiana Jones game died off completely thank you griffin from last nights stream.
