X-Wing Glider. Experimental Canard maiden flight.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This own-design model was made using two sets of old foam veneer wings, given to me by a friend. The ailerons are on the lower wing only to give roll control but also the correct yaw. I was a bit worried about the wings on landing so held them in place with elastic bands, so they had some 'give' in them. However I was able to slow the glider down enough to just flop it in.

If you get the X angle (the wing to wing angle) perfect, it spreads lifting/turning forces evenly in a bank, you can do tight turns and still get one mostly flat wing with max lift. I made a similar design and it thermal'd really, really well bc of that after I found a good angle for it. Not sure if it's quite worth the weight, but mine was ultralight w/ballast anyway so it def works there.

It only works due to the position of the front wing as well as the small center body.

Es asombrosa la suavidad de maniobra. Es, evidentemente, un "bicho raro" pero su vuelo es magnífico. Enhorabuena a su autor y piloto.

Just note everyone, there is no dedicated vertical tail and she flies just fine! John, I can’t see where you put R2? Cannons to be addend on the next flight? That was a lot of fun!

i guess the wings have quite a large projected area on the vertical plane and behind the cg

I mean - you're always going to take the ground with a wingtip when landing. But that is a very smooth flyer. Nicely done.

Ok, Wow! Brilliant design, and only rudder and elevator . . . 😉 Those loops look especially interesting with all those wings and angles. I was not expecting to see the roll, but well done. So many questions flooded into my head for the entire length of the video. Thank you for limiting it to 5 minutes, much longer would've likely caused me some sort of cerebral trauma. I'm especially curious about the dihedral effect of that wing set. She appeared especially solid about the roll axis. I'm suspecting copious amounts of aileron differential with very little downward deflection. In a few of those shots I lost orientation. Not so much the "up or down", but definitely the "coming or going". Your camera operator was on her "A game" though, as usual. I anxious to see what you've got lined up next. Perhaps a butterfly style canard with ruddervators.
