Seamus McGuoirk really the pixie mute doesn't change the sound of the trombone too much, but when combined with the plunger mute a great sound is produced

Yes, because he unashamedly and expertly follows Bechet. Bob Wilber by contrast seems to always want to leave him behind and be his own man. The trouble is he doesn’t much to offer.

Axel Baumgarten He's not the only one that can do it, there are several trombonists that can do it, however it is extremely difficult and he is one of the best.

I'm not sure I've ever heard a soprano sax played like that! That's an old style clarinet technique.

Sidney Bechet used to play the soprano sax and clarinet like that. I think that’s what this saxophone player was trying to imitate here. Great video!

0:50 everybody in the band is smiling 'cause the sax player ate up the trombone's cue with another fill into a longer solo. not without reason, though. that guy can play!

I'm a Saxophone player and that Trombone solo works so perfectly with some mood changes. It goes from a happy time theme to an instant Mafia or Casino type theme

I ran into this comment before watching the video and was like, "That's a tall order." Then I heard the song and was like "Damn it. He's absolute right." What a seriously beautiful sound and melody he produced. That, with the resonating acoustics lingering from the vibrato, was like swimming in a pleasant dream.
When you can have a jazz band so good that it takes looking at the list of names to realize it has FKING WYNTON MARSALIS IN IT you know just how good all of them are
I can totally imagine myself eating pastries with a large coffee near the castle (Jackson Square) in the French Quarter of NOLA again... Greetings from Europe!

The sax soprano solo by Olivier Franc is absolutely divine.
Humans are amazing creatures. Wycliffe truly speaks to the universe.
As a listener of classical music, I really enjoyed listening to that saxophone solo. Listened 5 times back to back.

What a showman Olivier Franc is, and what a musician! They're all great. I am so amused by Dan Nimmer at the piano. The straight man in a band of comedians! Love 'em all.
That first solo is still soooo damn good,
Oliver Franc's happiness is contagious, and his playing just adds to that! Truly amazing!

Yup, it's called a mute. I'm a jazz trombonist, and I use this. Really fun to make the waaaauuuwww sound you were talking about. It's also used on trumpet.

Swa Swabapapa it's a mute with a plunger.Dont use a plunger if you use it for your towel It and take off the stick part.I think you can buy or get a mute.
