@@gwiyomikim5988 congrats. you solved the puzzle du jour. 😃
Looked like the first rat had a dead eye. No reflection in the left eye at all. Not sure if that was the one that accepted the Shawn Woods relocation plan or not.
ISTM that there has been an increase in native deer mice (and wood rats, I guess) being caught recently, and fewer non-native "humane dispatches"-and their accompanying wildlife appearances. I wonder if Shawn's efforts have been affecting the population balance there.

@@Rdr2449 Um, no? His videos will just not be monetized if he shows the deaths on-screen, so he either finds some way to hide the action, or converts the traps to live capture. Then if the rodent captured is a non-native species he humanely "dispatches" them off-screen (with CO₂, AIUI) and feeds the carcasses to wildlife. And if it's native he hauls it out into the wild and releases it, like today. I am simply pointing out that I have seen much more of the latter recently than the former. The ratio of native to non-native species seems to be changing in his neck of the woods. Almost like he's managed to kill off most of the non-native rodents. Unless you have heard somthing about policy changes that I haven't. But I watch every video, and he has never said anything to my knowledge.

@@RoxUnlimited yes but he can’t use kill traps anymore but I don’t think he’s allowed to say what he does with non native species even though we all know
That article was quite enjoyable to read!
Smitty? Sheeeeeeyit, my gramps was in the European theater back in WWII and was known as Smitty. I doubt it's the same guy, though. as for the K Ration, that most often contained a strip of toilet paper, a few cigarettes, some matches to light the cigarettes, a meal, a drink, usually coffee, and a Hershey candy bar that the soldiers would usually hand out to local children who more than likely never had chocolate until that time.

Made plenty like this as rabbit traps. Same trigger system
That has one of the better trigger systems.
reminds me of the homemade live traps my family had when I was a kid. the difference was they were made with a wooden frame and wire mash and much larger for catching Racoons, they did catch rats and weasels from time to time
Those are very similar to the rabbit traps my dad used.

Steve mre is a damn legend. Thanks for the shoutout vicariously
Ahh! Giant one-sided rat! To quote the Lovecraftian Burniston video, "There's an unnameable, unimaginable thing in my basement ": "The size? It's cyclopian in scale; immeasurably huge to the point where if you saw the whole thing at once you'd be driven instantly insane. It's hard to get a grasp of the actual size, what with all the non-Euclidean geometry flying around in that basement, so I want it punted."
I've seen that one eyed rat before. He must have found his way back to your barn. Nice build!
Let's get this trap onto a try, nice

Good job Shawn. I will be building it.

Yay! Great video Shawn! I love that you mention Steve1989, hes another favorite creator of mine :)
When I was 10 or 12 dad, built us a rabbit trap, same thing but scaled up, he was in the pacific war, I wonder if that is where he got the idea.
Might work a bit better if the trigger somehow detached so the door couldn't be lifted up, but it's far enough away that I don't think it matters too much
@dustinandrews89019

We had traps like this that pull a pin that was holding the door. So once it was set off the trigger was no longer attached to anything.

Nice that it can be dual purpose, both mice and rats.
I would die happy if there were some sort of Shawn Woods and and Steve1989 crossover video where you did a video together, you're my favorite youtubers!
Pet mice PTSD alert. Lol
Steve × Shawn crossover! two of the best youtube channels ever
I've watched your channel for several years now, so that gave me an idea. The rat pulled the trigger and this opened the door. Perhaps replacing trigger with a string that mice or rats chew on might solve this potential problem.
Cool trap
we've seen that 1 eyed rate before......
Man, that's a MASSIVE rat.. leaning towards the size of a rabbit..!!

pretty much a rabbit gum.. good job !!
in the pacific theater the rat problem was so bad in some areas that the powers that be offered a bounty of one can of beer for every rat tail brought in.
great video- trying to get the vidoe more popular
I didn’t realize K-Rations came in wood boxes. That must have used up a lot of wood!
Looks like a kid's wooden truck. Lol
Looks like that rat had a bad left eye
@GoldShawFarm for your rats!
WW2. They should have used a 10 gallon bucket and walk the plank. They had those supplies.

Really interesting project. The mice and rats are still a problem on the frontline today.
Since that trap looks like a wooden vehicle, I think you may camouflage it with military colors and make it look like a vehicle.
You could eat them instead of the rations provided
@THEDUDEABlDES

😂 maybe you could. But rats carry diseases and plague
What are you using for bait. And it looks like it just traps 1 at time. Lame.
When I saw the thumbnail I thought it's a trap for soldiers and rat is some kind of nickname for them
Seems like some sort of bucket trap would have allowed the soldiers to catch more than one mouse at a time. I wonder about that rats eye. One was very reflective but the other wasn't. He should have that looked at my a professional.
As always Shawn, gloves Shawn, gloves. Protect yourself and your family.
