WWII German Tank Panther Ausf. A, Maybach HL 230 P30 V-12 engine starting up

The first 250 Panthers were powered by a Maybach HL 210 P30 V-12 petrol engine, which delivered 650 metric hp at 3,000 rpm and had three simple air filters. Starting in May 1943, Panthers were built using the 700 metric horsepower (690 hp, 515 kW) at 3,000 rpm, 23.1 litre Maybach HL 230 P30 V-12 petrol engine.

Mercedes-Benz were the prior owners. Mercedes ruined the Jeep. Fiat is letting the Chrysler-Dodge Corporation to get back to American designs of Jeep. Mercedes demanded a Euro type box body design, the G-Class Mercedes. Whenever Mercedes had influence, the wonderful American Jeep looked like all the other European made Euro trash four wheel drive junk. Jeeps look like the real deal American Jeeps again. Both Mercedes and Fiat wanted to get into the American sales market. Mercedes bought the Chrysler-Dodge Corporation first then Fiat now owns Chrysler-Dodge. The Willis Jeep Corporation first designed and engineered the Jeep. It was accepted for US Military use in World War 2. Willis was sold to Rambler Corp. Then American Motor Company (AMC) bought Rambler Motors. Then Chrysler-Dodge bought AMC-Eagle-Jeep Corporation. Mercedes bought Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep. Now Fiat owns Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep.

@@Big1_ In engineering we use a term called "foreseen misuse" to tackle exactly that. With it we account for possible abuse, often by strengthening components to be able to withstand bad treatment by the operator. Even with the Panther's transmission being able to operate in regular use - moving peacefully on regular roads from A to B - if it often breaks by constantly being slammed from one gear to the next during the stresses of battle and racing over uneven terrain, it really isn't up to the job and therefor a bad design.

Inertia starter!! The US M-4s with radial engines had a crank as well, but it was auttached to the crank shaft. You would spin it about 40 times prior to a cold start so that if any oil pooling had occurred in the lower cylinders, it would be worked out before you tried to turn the tank over
