I remember seeing photos and reading about War Zone for the first time in a game pro magazine. And it got me so pumped up and exciting

I think it was under a different title, like WWF 98. The first screenshots the ring was the old red, white, and blue ropes.

Kane's theme reminds me of the 100+year old church I went to as a kid (even had a nightmare where Kane was chasing me in said church lol)

Not only that, but a few recognizable outfits in CAW. Road Warriors makeup, Vader's mask, Jarrett's Aztec attire, even Al Snow's Avatar mask. It was quite innovative for its time. The one for Attitude was a little better however.

The weird thing I remember about this game is that Bret was in it when he had left the WWF like a year before.

Yeah, by the time the game was released, Bret, Bulldog, and Ahmed had left WWF. Both Bret and Bulldog were in WCW. I never understood how the Road Warriors and Vader were not in this game.

@@SlickDGaming I still don't understand how the Headbangers made the cut but the Road Warriors didn't. Or why they couldn't at least put 20 guys in the game, ridiculous.

I remember it was impossible to beat Goldust in a cage match because of his recovery.

Nostolgic and awesome!! Although, I thought Bret Hart was out of the WWF at this point in history.

This was released after his departure the WWF following Survivor Series 1997, but I guess it was too late to remove him and Davey Boy Smith from the game. (Bret would not make another appearance in a WWF/WWE game until SmackDown vs RAW in 2004.)

This, attitude smackdown 1 and 2 were my childhood favourites

loved this game back in 2000

The good old days going to the library to use the computers just to learn how to do the wrestlers finishing moves and get cheat codes lol

Got This and a PlayStation Christmas of that year. Played this every day. Been so long I forgot almost 8/10th of The games roster were heels lol

In all seriousness Shawn Michaels was much more charismatic than Bret Hart. You could debate all day on who was better in the ring but there's no denying that Shawn was a very charismatic performer. He could play both heel and face very well and knew how to get the crowd behind him and get them riled up against him. Bret Hart was lovable but he wasn't some charismatic guy. His best character work was as a heel during his last run in the WWF with the Hart Foundation.

I like this, man. Unlike other playthroughs of this game, you don't do the same thing over and over. Good video. And with one of my favorite wrestler's, too!

I used to laugh whenever The Rock would be put in a submission hold and screamed "AAAAAAAAAAAH! AAAH! UH! OW DAMN! OW!"

These graphics with the smooth, fluid controls and grapple system of the THQ and AKI games...that would've been perfection. Nice playthrough. My mom bought this for me back in the day. I still have it to this day on N64.

That and Acclaim games definitely had them beat in the sound department. Real wrestler voices, commentary, dynamic crowds (though perhaps without the random shoutouts.) I think that was, and honestly still is acclaim’s edge over the AKI games.

N64 played better but lacked the FMV of the PS1 unfortunately. The Gauntlet and Royal Rumble modes make up for it.

Wow it been 23 years when war zone came out I was 12 I didn't know it was this many wrestlers on the roster I do remember u have to buy the war zone guide book to perform moves

Think Bret had already left by the time this game come out

I don't think this doesn't feel like it's an Attitude era period game, apart from Kane, The Rock (during game development he was known as Rocky Maivia before turning heel and joining the Nation of Domination) and HHH and Shawn Michaels with the DX theme, crotch chop taunts and attires this has the roster from 1997 as this game was meant to be released in late 1997 as WWF '98 with the New Generation logo, but however this game was pushed back till Summer '98 as WWF Warzone with the Attitude era logo therefore when the game had came out, Bret Hart, British Bulldog and Ahmed Johnson had all left the company.

It had a two year production cycle so they had to release something. Attitude came out exactly a year later and felt more polished.

Joey Roller wwf war zone was a solid wrestling game for its time looking back at it now 19 years to the date I'd give it a score of 8.6 when no mercy was released in late 2000 war zone and attitude video games were simply just WWF wrestling games in the past.same as wrestlemania the arcade game

Remember my first Gamestation back when I was 6 In 2012. I loved wwe so I got Wcw nitro and Wwe warzone. I guess Im an OG since It was my first gamestation. Alot of my friends just had PS4s.

I wish there was a way to change crowd reactions to wrestlers in this game. I always hated when they booed bret. Yeah he was a heal near the end of his wwf run but imo, the screwjob was a face turn.

Wwf warzone career mode had a lot of unique things such as ring girl carrying the belt, small cutscenes and wwf magazines when you win the title. Wwf attitude career mode had no cutscenes which made it boring but at least you could change arenas. They were both unique in a way

I’m not even sure Bret Hart did his own grunts. The taunts sound like him, but the grunts sound like some dude burping.

That was for Attitude. This came out in 98.

My buddy swears by revenge for n64 but ill take war zone for ps1 any day man this game captured the attitude era like nothing else..."well maybe besides attitude lol" but damn what a game...when i got ps1 and my folks got this for me for Christmas 97....it was absolutely over....this game was amazing

The graphics on the superstars were actually pretty good detailed even though it wasn’t as good as the Smackdown or No mercy quality animations or controls

I'd also like to add it was a game that had the elevator loading screen eat your heart out MASS EFFECT 1

I remember even as kid being like, “Why is the crowd so far away?” What purpose does that guardrail serve? They have these stands super far away or the people are just really tiny. Then a guardrail in front of it. Did they want to have fans directly behind the guardrail then decided it against it and just left it that way!

Still have mine running though my latest TV doesn't have the AV connectors so it's now in storage. However, am happy for emulators. I use a PS1 emulator but I use the actual game disk to record onto my computer, so I do own the games themselves.

😂😂😂😂that's the pyro. Every wrestler had that generic pyro in their entrance that's probably why this game didn't age that well poor graphics. It's the 16 bit or pixels
