This push hands technique can be learned in about 15 minutes, applications from it can take a lifetime.

It’s cool but actually those are just the really basic learning steps before you start proper pushands in freestyle and that’s where everything actually gets learned.

Freestyle these days actually disintegrates into upright arm wrestling and wrist and shirt grabbing, it avoids the real martial techniques of taiji. Of Peng, lu, ji, an, li, kao, and the remaining techniques of the eight basic moves which are ignored and in fact not allowed in modern push hands tournaments, so it's not surprising people have no idea how to fight using taiji.

@@nhoj277 Over the 4 years (2011-2015) of practice at the academy, 2-3 night a week, 3 hours a night.. I went through different stages, 1) 8 months of learning 108-standard form, 2) 6 months of 1st correction of 108-standard form, meanwhile learning basic 4-direction linear push-hands, 3) 6 months of 54-round form, meanwhile learning round push-hands, 4) learning various style of push-hands such as moving steps linear and round push-hands, nine-palace square push-hands, Fa-jins, Martial-arts applications of individual movements in the taichi routine.. various internal training and others I don't know how to explain in English. Then, we would apply all these knowledge gained from these various trainings and put them back in to the 108-standard form routine as part of the training.. Oh, and we spend a fair amount of focus on the stickiness, how to stick skins with skins... how to listen (Ting-Jin) meaning how to understand the body structure of you and your opponent at the moment of contact, find the strengths and weaknesses and attack or defense (one of the main purposes of push-hand)

This is Eddie Kwon Wu Hong Kong style wu, it is fairly rudimentary and has not the depth of the Shanghai wu school of Ma Yueh Lian and Wu Ying hua(wu chien chuans daughter), from the originators Wu Chien Chuan methods, he passed down 13 hand methods and 4 step methods the Hong Kong school has this one method only. Eddie wu developed his skills largely away from the main family tradition, and it has a limited range of skills and techniques and the distinctly odd square form, unique to Hong Kong Wu style.

The Hong Kong stream was passed on by Wu Ying Hua's elder brothers Wu Kung Yi and Wu Kung Cho (grandfather of sifu Eddie). My personal opinion is that the predecessors work hard on practicing and pass on their experiences and techniques. We as posterity carry on with their experiences to develop further. Honestly, who have time to practice 10 hours a day 7 days a week? Because of work, I would be happy if I have 2 hours practice everyday. A good sifu to me is someone who can teach me and let me understand my weakness, having patience to help me to overcome that weakness, and build a very good team spirits (very good training atmosphere within the Taichi Academy I can ensure you) that make me want to stay with these people! Learn to understand strengths and weaknesses yourself and others through Taichi.

@@JackyChanTQRC108 I am not personally criticizing Eddie wu's methods or techniques, they are quite interesting for those used to orthodox taiji tuishou combat techniques, however Wu Kung Yi learned for several years with the Yang family as well as with his father, so had a slightly different approach, to his sister Wu Ying Hua. I have met several men in their late sixties and 70's from Hong Kong who learned Hong Kong Wu style from the brothers , they do not recognise any of Wu Ying Hua/ Ma Yue Liang tushou techniques, and have a different array of combat methods, similar to Eddie Wu's, Eddie I was told from one of Ma Yueh Liangs senior students, went to Shanghai and learned from Wu Ying Hua and Ma Yueh Liang he claimed, but much prefered to preserve his family techniques. So I am in no way denigrating his methods they are simpler , quicker to learn, and provide good results, they are more martial and less art then Ma Yueh Liangs 13 hand techniques which are complex and challenging to learn. His form is striped down to its essentials , without any extraneous movements, However Ma Yueh Liangs methods have a greater depth and take much longer to Master. Unfortunately the Hong Kong Wu family did not teach the fast form and many famous students from Hong Kong denigrate its authenticity and origins and claim it is a Ma Yueh Liang invention, the loudest proponent of this proposition, the notorious British shifu/teacher Dan Docherty from UK, shows complete arrogant ignorance , to simply dismiss his argument, there is an old black and white film of an army commander doing the old form of Wu Quan Yu, which is virtually identically similar to the indoor Fast form taught by his son Wu Chien Chuan handed down to Ma Yueh Liang first performed in Public in 1982, when then the army commander was doing the wu fast form in the 30's Ma Yueh Liang was a novice Wu Chien Chuan student in his early twenties so certanly did not create or teach this far older man this form, he learned this form from Wu Chien Chuans father Wu Quan Yu..

@@nhoj277 Hi, Thanks for the information. For me, it doesn't matter the lineage as a modern person, I have to work 8-10 hours a day, 6 days a week. So I don't have the time the grand masters used to have to practice and study the techniques. To me, a great sifu is not only teach me what they can do, but also teach me the spirit of it. Back to your interest, try to find information about Wu Tu Nan 吳圖南www.plumpub.com/info/Bios/bio_wutunan.htm I am not sure if you can read chinese. There are lots of book about these great taichi masters, and the way they write is always put in their lineage, and what they feel or experience during their journey of practice. I have a collection of books, mainly from Wu and Yang styles (as sifu Eddie always say, Wu style came from Yang style).. and then cross reference them and see how each successors ideas about taichi, and see if that matches what I practice.. if not, why.. then go ask sifu..

@@nhoj277 The army commander ist Chu Minyi, the late Minister of Foreign Affairs who was murdered by the communists -> en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chu_Minyi. But.... if you know the Ma-System, you know that the skill of CMY was not really a masterpiece ;-) It is always a difference if someione is a student or a disciple, as well as it is a difference to be the eldest son of a master or a foreigner. Anyway, he tried to promote this TJQ all over the world and even brought it to the olympics 1936 to Germany at least as a demonstration. Ma Yueh Liangs son used to teach in Germany he passed away about 3 or 4 years ago, Eddie Wu travels the world, there is a school in Germany that is associated with Wu and Yang that often invites masters, and there is a very talented Wu taiji master somewhere in Europe I recorded about a dozen of his videos from youtube, not a famous name , but very talented, you can see skill very clearly, when you see it, no bullshit touch and fall down fluff nonsense.

My opinion is that no one of Ma students has been learned push hands. Can you find out of this talented student of Ma or send me a link to the KZread video you have mentioned?

After about 20 years of push hands , it is as the modern brat MMA and UFC worshiping critics say, the way it is taught mostly will not help you fight, there is no intrinsic magic in push hands most is bullshit, but I have found some good teachers who know real combat and some that will not fight but can explain how it could possibly be used, such as one of Ma Yueh Liangs inner door students, he leaves it to you to pursue actual combat outside of class.
