Xu Xin's foot work in that point at 5:52 was awesome even though he lost the point.

Not only that, his form and rubber lets him take the ball soooo close to the ground.

In my opinion, Kenta is one of the most complete players in the game. Attack technique, block, serving, returnig and tactics, he has it all, except power. Damn, seems like this little guy misses so little to be one of the best..

Forehand and backhand looping, along with the serve receive are some of the most important parts of a pro's game, and his are far from Top 10 level. While he does have a good serve and a great block, you cannot say he misses little to be one of the best.

The Chinese commentator who gets a lot of hate from international fans for being biased, her assessment of Japanese players like MatsuKen, Jun Mizutani, etc. are that they have solid techniques, as good as anybody, but they dont have the power needed to increase the deadliness of their shots, and I think she is right.

Great match! I feel that Kenta was relying too much on passive blocks in later games and became too predictable for Xu Xin, who loaded up his topspin strokes with heavy spin. A combination of passive block and aggressive shots, might have changed the results

Xu Xins Physical fitness is incredible also. I would have just gave up against Kentas crazy blocks. Kenta was block and placing the ball in a very difficult angles but I cannot believe how Xu Xin was able to get there. His Fitness is superb. I guess this is the reason why Kenta was able to defeat the aging legend Ma Lin 4-1 with that crazy blocks.

if you saw more old school matches such as those of waldner persson primorac or gatien, ud realise that they were succesful against the chinese for that exact reason. they not only had the aggressive mid play that most europeans had today but also a clearly exceptional blocking and fishing game too! now this is the approach that dominated the chinese back then! :-)

Zev Libin Agreed. I would not like to categorize Waldner in a ripper/blocker debate. He was the best because of the magical balance in both skills. I quoted his example to prove that, if done perfectly, blocking helps winning games.

You're right! but that last shot he should've hit for the wine down the line, but he played that silly chop and got reaaaally lucky! a little bit more killer instinct is needed. But he's improved a lot since that match with Ma lin. I only fear that someone with a a better backhand than XX like Zang Jike or Ma Long will destroy him. He could easily pin XX and Ma lin down their backhands because they're weaker there, but when that weakness isn't there he'll struggle.
