Xiegu employees repeatedly told me that they had a “significant” update that boasted some “exciting new features” being released in December of 2021. I recognized a couple months later that they were just trying not to let on that it was already abandoned, and I sold mine to a ham who wanted to experiment with it, and didn’t care that it was likely going to be an expensive paperweight. By now we all know that Xiegu likes the “ready, fire, aim” approach.

The IQ to the back of the g90. The IQ to the back of gsoc. I've been using my gsoc for a while. The IQ cable is a special cable that came with it. Unless an Extra doesn't need to listen to a general.

@@mdwestlund1 - You echoed my thoughts exactly. The I/Q cable is a must if you wish to see the waterfall. However, the waterfall does not shift along with the tuned frequency... I've had a G90 for about six years and love it. However, I did invest in the GSOC but have never even unboxed it as of yet. Now I'm not all that stoked about the expensive paperweight! 💩

12:00 SSOP = Shrink Small Outline Package. With through hole components we have DIP (Dual Inline Package) but for Surface mount we have different sized packages. The largest one you will usually encounter is the SOIC/SOP. There is also smaller ones like SSOP and TSSOP.

I bought the GSOC when it first came out and sent it back after three days. There were so many problems with the device. I have noticed similar problems, like the birdies, on the x6100 which I now have. If it wasn't for the x6100 alt FW, I wouldn't have kept it. Whenever Xiegu products are mentioned online, I think of the cover photo on the May 2021 issue of CQ magazine: It's of two young Chinese hams in Shanghai operating CW. Look closely in the background of the picture and they're using an Elecraft KX3. No Xiegus are in sight.

Seems to be a discontinued product. I was paying attention to it when they released it and it definitely had some growing pains (just like most Xiegu stuff) but all the negative reviews at the time seemed to have squashed their will to try to make it work. Probably didn't help that it cost more than the G90 it is meant to support, so sales were extremely slow. The idea was cool, but like you said pair it with a RTLSDR dongle and CAT control for a lot cheaper and you get similar function.

If they leave the backdoor open (which they have with the X6100) then its potential with a community of hackers cant be overstated. But this product is flawed from the start. So OK its a big miss. But in stead of building on that, the newer models seem to be all about trying to cram the bells and whistles and "nice to haves" into smaller packages and ending up with "so-so" products in stead of a product that sells out at least once a month.

With a Xiegu supported PC driver that supported a virtual IO audio adaptor and a cat control com port.... But then dreaming . Or go one step further with wifi and a android tablet or phone app I know if I was making an open source G90 I'd do those. With the gsoc they prove to themselves that there isn't a commercial market for it. But I know anyone adding ethernet and IP67 is going to add $5000-$10000 to the price for no good reason.

I'm not saying I disagree, but most components in every radio are probably built in China. ICOM, Yaesu, you name the company. China manufacturers 90% of PC, 75% of solar panels, 70% of phones, 50% of pork, on and on. Western markets have made manufacturing ridiculously expensive with overbearing regulations and taxes.

@@bassmanjr100 yes I know that, but Icom & Yaesu use better top tier components whereas the likes of those other companies use bottom tier components. The cheap radios are missing important filtering that makes them barn door receivers and splatter boxes.

If you're to have any credibility in comments, you either need to be more specific in a mature manner, or at least understand the message of the video before commenting. Looks like you're having trouble with that.

Thanks for watching, if I recall, the 705/6100 comparison was done before the product was available based off of "news"... They are much different rigs of course and I find myself using them both at different times for their individual strengths.
