Rest in peace, TB.
I would be interested to see some later levels. Saying these two levels look the same I feel is a little unfair seeing as you never actually left the arena. So they may make different levels once you finish the entirety of that mission.
I love the General Patton quote at the end.
What you're talking about is bullet simulation model - opposite of hitscan. Hitscan is a model when there is no travel time for projectiles. You instantly hit anything you're aiming at when you fire. No need to lead a moving target or compensate for dropoff. 'Bullets' travel instantly in a straight line. It's impossible to dodge a hitscan weapon if you're in its crosshair when taking fire.
I think the great thing about TotalBiscuit when compared to other reviewers is his attention to detail and how consistent he is. I'm always seeing new videos on his channel. Keep up the good work!
just finished it. it has nice grafics, nice gunplay and nice audio. its fun but its really hard until u get the higher tier perks
I knew everything I needed to know about this game from the first minute. Thanks TB :D
Goddammit, TB. I was curious about this game and then you have to go and put out this awesome video. You're a mind reader.
Yes! My subscription box has broken again! Luckily I can rely on a consistent uploader like you, TB, to check. Thank you for your regular uploads.
Take a drink everytime TB says "by any stretch of the imagination" or "to say the least" ;)
"Bloody screen, So REAL!" Ha I feel like the only one who got that joke.
That was the 4th mission out of 11, so 4 missions out of 11, almost half the content of the game, uses the same tileset.
Wait, an FPS that doesn't hold my hand with prompts, easy-mode guns, stupid AI and insta-health regen? I'm in. I miss the days of games being stupid-hard and border-line frustrating. Making headway in games like that offer real feelings of accomplishment.

8 years later lol I do really like this game
this game looks fun , installing right now thanks tb. so grateful you do these things
BLOODY SCREEN SOOOO REAL !
I love the new opening splash.
So I just got an ad for total war rome 2 before your video, which is a somewhat hilarious coincidence given the content of your recent content patch.
ive been looking forward to this
definitely something i'm willing to check out. i'm normally not into FPS games, but hearing that this one has a decent challenge at least in gunplay. i'm willing to check it out.
same problem... got dizzy while watching so just listened in background and reading comments
An early look at UnderRail would be cool. I already have it, just would love to hear your opinion on it. Its a RPG in the style of the first two Fallouts, so stat crunching, and turn based combat. Lots of cool things going on with it.
those visuals look amazing
I had a blast with the demo version. I can't wait to play the whole thing.
Thanks for the video Mr. Biscuit.
I didn't exactly mention travel time but I suppose my explanation was rather lackluster. To put it simple, I said hitscan is the calculation. While travel speed is infinite, if done right what will happen is that a lead is put in the calculation in order to cope with obstacles, for realism's sake. Hence the calculation of how fast you run and how far ahead. You're right about it being impossible to dodge however, when the calc says you get hit, you do. Apologies for the bad explanation ^^;
Would like to see a shooter with a UN Squadron like damage system, where after you take a hit, you will take more damage, until a period of time where you take no damage. So there is a short ttk with the extra damage you take after taking an initial hit and the number of hits you can take increases after you've been out of combat, but you don't trivialize the damage you take by regenerating it. You can only regen it by picking up very rare health packs. Kind of the best of both worlds imo.
I love that "bloody screen so real" is a thing now :)
Yeah, gave me the same feeling.
Hit scan is where there is no travel time on the bullets. For instance most CoD weapons are hit scan with the exception of grenades and other explosives. Battlefield doesn't use hit scan on any weapon, except maybe the knife, but to be fair the knife has a delay on it's damage when firing because it needs to reach the correct point in the animation.
Y'know, I agree with you. It does look pretty interesting, actually. I'll be keeping an eye out for this. I wonder how the multiplayer will play out.
absolutely. I have played shooters since Wolfenstein 3d, and i have never gotten down consistently and effortless switching between 9-10 weapons. Having just 3 weapons to switch between but focusing on giving 2-3 different ways to use each weapon is much less intimidating and more elegant of a way to provide comparable variety.
shadow warrior also has an interesting health mechanic i wish we saw in more shooters.
Thanks for the video!
Hit scan - if an object is detected in the path of the projectile, a hit is registered. The effect is that these projectiles travel at infinite speed (a luxury of computers' non-analogue simulation of time) and have a linear trajectory -- a practical but very crude simulation of a bullet's speed and accuracy. So no need for target leading, no force affects bullet path. Basically if you've got an enemy in your reticule when you shoot then you'll register a hit. Most modern shooters don't use it.
Has TB done a video on Infinite Crisis? Just wondering having just played it myself. Though as with regards to this video here very well done good sir :).
In non-hitscan games the weapon fires real projectiles. Depending on where they land the player may get hit. In hitscan games a weapon is fired and the computer scans for targets. If you're in line of sight, it either hits or rolls a random chance to hit. IE, breaking line of sight is the way to avoid getting hit. In non-hitscan games you can move unpredictably and when they're just about to fire. It creates another, more intuitive, way to avoid getting hit.
"it's bloody screen. So real" killed me
Looks good game to play whilst eating lunch, for that break time rush.
Woah, I never ever sufferd from fov motion sickness before. But just 5 min of gunplay and my head starts to spin already.
What a timing, i just noticed this game while browsing steam.
And he ran into that damn door glitch at the end...
Good point.
saw this game on steam, checked the channel and there was nothing. then watched content patch and now its up :D
I'd love to see a follow up on the multiplayer when the game comes out
He did a video on Assault Horizon, which was on PC. Maybe that's the one you're talking about. He also did a video on God Hand, a PS2 game, as well as a recent PAX video on the latest Earth Defense Force on 360. So no, that's not the only console game he's done.
Appreciate the warning! :)
The same way you explain dragons and magical spells... its called video game logic and thats good enough for me.
Another game with a grouped post processing quality option in the graphics settings. That one switch will control multiple features like Depth of Field, Motion Blur, Anisotropic Filtering and Ambient Occlusion. TotalBiscuit, when you find a game that has a grouped pp quality option like this, could you elaborate a little about which features can be switched or tweaked in the ini and config files?
bloody screen so real I GET IT !
This game looks pretty fun to me, will have to check it out at some point
I am pretty sure that is the screen filter colouring the circle, because the blue circle is the only stark colour on the screen. :3
correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the health bar was the blue circle around the ammo counter, it goes from blue to grey to red depending on your health, still not as good as an accurate bar, but better than blood on the screen.
no travel time in the bullets basicly as in every cod game and even bf where you aim you shoot and the bullet arrives instantly (even snipers in bf it just calculates where you have to aim for the bullet to hit the target and lead your shots a bit but even then the bullet pretty much arrives there in a second) a recent example of a game tb covered where enemys dont have hitscan weapons is paranautical activity just take a quick look at what the enemys shoot in that game
Some say TotalBiscuit is still running circles in that last room.
Completely agree! Not including anti-aliasing or something of that nature can be overlooked but FOV is absolutely mandatory.
Blue and Orange: The Videogame With Aliens!
i just noticed total biscuit says "to say the least" very very often... to say the least
7:25 - What an awesome hobby we have that we can say to ourselves "alien guns: they perform pretty much as you would expect" :D
Really enjoyed this 1st impressions. I agree completely with how they really should have had the old school mechanics like health bars and gun wheels. But Honestly that doesn't break a game if it's still good, and this seems still interesting enough worth a buy. Maybe a good game if it hits a sale. Coincidentally I just started my 1st playthrough on unreal's campaign and can't help but wonder if this could have been a next-gen form if it went truly arcadey. Interesting thought.
He referenced Duty Calls, good for you TB.
Would've loved for TB to see Warhammer 40K Boltgun's release, ticking all those oldschool shooter boxes he loved and tickling his W40K fancy😔
I wonder if City is trying to change its image by renaming itself. They used to be synonymous with shovelware for a very long time but this really looks quite solid and challenging.
Thanks for this
hmm some pretty explosions and such in there :D
I've been having problems too, I haven't recived any content for horus and I'm subbed to tons of channels.
Actually its just that when you fire a hit-scan weapon, there is no projectile with travel time, instead the game "draws" a line and looks for all the things the line penetrates, first thing on that line is hit. All that is done in one frame so if a hit scan weapon is on you, you cannot avoid it (and ai has all the means to keep it always on you)
If i ever make a game. Regardless of genre, i would put no less than 3 FOV sliders in every menu, even the character selection and stage select screens.
this reminds me of resistance on playstation, that game was fun.
it actually looks like a good game if you look at it like the old games that were hard and not the new ones that are in normal you just run and shoot. and the fast pace kinda reminds me of that
Spawning from behind? That's a deal breaker!
Bloody screen! SO REAL!
I know. I did said early access. I know they have not finish with all the keyboard commands and it still pretty bare bones.
id recommend shootmania, very much like quake and (it might sound odd) counter strike, a lot of very clutch moments
It is coming to PC, just on a later date.
Hi Thora, it was Totalhalibut earlier but he changed it in the cynical Brit because his second channel Totalbiscuit is his Starcraft 2 channel.
Watching this makes me want to play Prey and Quake 4
Thanks for the heads up, now I'll be perhaps a little less disappointed when I get to actually play it. Who knows, maybe I'm longing for games like that so much I see the elements of them everywhere :) I actually gave Quake 4 a retrospective spin not so long ago and it was a lot better than I remembered.
Well, in the real world, every bullet is a projectile which must travel some distance to reach the target, and is affected by wind direction and speed. Hitscan is a game terminology, where things like wind, projectile speed is not taken into the calculation. Some games have a hitscan delay--which is that the moment you press fire the gun doesn't shoot, it shoots after a few milliseconds intentional delay to make the weapon feel as if it's not hitscan.
Just wanting to mention, this video didn't appear on my subscription list. Since yesterday there haven't been any vids on my sub list, I can only see them on your page or on my iPad
one word "BADASS"
His second channel is called TotalBiscuit, Starcraft 2
This game looks decently interesting. TB, I know that you don't take requests, and you have probably already thought about it, but I would appreciate a WTF for the multiplayer of this game. Do you have plans for it?
Rest in Peace TotalBiscuit. We miss you buddy.
Did anyone notice the mountains in the background thing at 7:20 ?
I spent 3 days straight playing GTA V on drugs. This man is on a whole 'nother level
I like you because you like Bulletstorm, plus biscuits. Cannot wait for your wtf on SW. May I ask when it will be up? It would help really help me out.
The bullet traversal is calculated in a straight line instantaneously, rather than the bullet taking time to travel and being affected by gravity.
Hope you come back with a wtf is alien rage multiplayer
Now whenever I say "bloody screen" I have to add "so real" right after. Damn you Duty Calls!
same here
Totally agree with TBs sentiment of a sequel going full old school, searchable maps, key cards, etc etc. I miss those shooters and this looks the perfect platform to build said shooter upon. Do It City. btw City Interactive maybe should have done Aliens CM....
I'm kinda getting a Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon feel to it a little with how the animations are, the guns, the sounds.
bloody screen so real
When tb said don't think about strafe jumping I instantly thought of mw2 strafe and shotgun jumps... Good times!
looks cool to me. I kind of like that it has a mixture of old school style with some modern elements. Things like the lower fov and large gun models don't bother me much. I think the challenge of the game is definitely compelling. But maybe it would be better to save money for shadow warrior.
looks fun as hell
argh, that field fo view
Hey TB will there be any WTF is State of Decay? It just game out to pc as early launch and I would like to know your thoughts on it.
Depends on the game really. In a futuristic setting like this they could be made of extremely light materials and even fold up Mass effect style. Other games might just say forget realism and go with whatever is fun
Looks like a bit of fun. :)
