What the hell kind of title is that? "WTF Happened to Felipe Massa"? Well, it's not as sinister as what it may sound. It's not in the slightest a jab at the dude. The rollercoaster ride of his F1 career is what has prompted this video. But it also gives him the credit he truly deserves.
Special thanks to BMPH - Ben for appearing in this vid. Be sure to check his stuff out!

And also thanks to George Morgan for supplying his "IS THAT GLOCK" moment :)

Both him and Kubica had if not the biggest what ifs and definitely hurts you. Felipe wasn't the same Ferocious man he was eversince his accident in 2009 Hungary. Along with Kubica's life threatening accident during a 2011 WRC event. Really sad to see them strong until the end of 2008, completely wacked off in 2009, and then just a cycle of what-ifs had they not been into the incidents.

If they don't suffer their life-threatening injuries, I don't think Hamilton has 7 titles, because I think a healthy Massa and a Kubica that has two working arms take a couple titles away from Lewis... I'd say Lewis is only a five time champion instead of having the same amount of titles as Michael Schumacher, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt Sr and Jimmie Johnson

@Stealth Leopard lol its not that simple. Schumacher was clearly the no1 driver and the focus was on him and the same thing was with Alonso, Felipe Fernando is faster than you, do you copy? Räikkönen and Massa were treated equally in 2007, and Räikkonen beat Massa even though he was new to the team. 2018 they focused more on Massa car was developed more to Massa than Raikkonen which was a mistake. Same thing happened 2009 and right after Massa hurt they focused on Kimi and he started to deliver like win in spa with crappy Ferrari of 2009. Massa is great but not on Räikkonen's level. Also after 2009 accident, Massa was never the same and the favouring of Alonso didnt help. Its just the fact that Räikkönen was the fastest driver of 2000's when he had a car he wanted. The problem with him is that he is not into politics and his car setup window is bit narrow. Also he didnt put effort like other top drivers did, to Kimi it was and it is more like hobby. Sometimes he drinked two weeks between races while Massa was training on simulator lol. Räikkönen is true legend :)

Had the pleasure of meeting Felipe at the 2017 Aussie F1 GP. We were practically first in line near the start of the paddock walk, he came and said "hi", went to sign an autograph but realised he didn't bring a pen. I gave him mine since I had a spare, so he thanked me, signed my program book, then continued on. About 5 minutes later he came back to return it, went to sign my book again; I reminded him it was ok since he already had signed it - to which he replied, "Is OK!", signed it again, returned my pen, thanked me and off he went. Very humbling experience - he certainly earned my respect. It's a real shame he's no longer in the sport.

2:59 Incorrect, Massa wasn't given a race ban. He was given a back of the grid penalty for USA, however Sauber found a loophole in the rules which would avoid him getting a back of the grid penalty. That loophole being him missing the next race and returning in the following race.

We often think of him as Schumis number 2 but I think it’s an interesting question to ask, what if he wasn’t? He had immense speed and consistency (contrary to Massa) and had such an immense love for the sport as whole and for his country. As a Brazilian, I still cry every time I watch that podium for his first win. This isn’t even mentioning that after leaving F1 he’s been pretty successful in all the categories he competes in! The dude just loves racing and races more now I think than during his F1 days.

Being a Br and having grown counting the weeks for F1 Sundays, I'm gonna leave my 2 cents: For me it felt like after the astounding F2004 Ferrari always managed to lose the championship by some mishap. Something would go wrong, usually a bone headed strategy decision, that would cost them the trophy in the end. That was the case with the 2008 season. Sure, Massa could've driven so great that Hungary and Singapore wouldn't matter but in the end those wins cost him the championship, specially the Singapore incident. (oh, and no, Massa didn't carried half the pit crew with him. Ferrari told him it was ok and there he went. Ferrari was the first team to test the "traffic light" pit system, that year, and the guy who operated it gave Massa the green light before the gas hose was disconnected. If it was still the "lollipop system", Massa would have a WDC). After that, for me I never thought it was the accident. I guess the "Fernando is faster than you" messed with his mentality. He felt that very very deeply. He felt betrayed. Wronged. Like it's on the video, he was leading the championship, Ferrari should've prioritized him (in his point of view). Or at least not interfered. Not having a message called in his radio. And Ferrari never could provide 2 great cars again. And Alonso was not the good team guy he was used to driving alongside Räikkönen and Schumi. He was good after the accident, just not after the message. He outperformed the Williams all those years he was there but at the end he realized he wouldn't have another chance to win it so he left. Oh, and he went back for Williams because they had a deal with Martini and being an alcoholic beverage they needed a senior driver to be with Stroll. It kinda was in the contract.

He was a great driver, just not quite champion material, between Alonso, Raikkonen and Hamilton he was always just a half step behind in terms of ability. Somehow I happened to be present at some of the key moments of Massa's career. I was at *that* 2008 Belgian Grand Prix. It was so frustrating, it felt like what was a fantastic race was being ripped away from us spectators. From that moment on I cheered for Hamilton to win the championship. In hindsight of course I wish that Massa had won it and Sir Lewis had one fewer championship now, but honestly Hamilton deserved it more in 2008. I was also at *that* 2009 Hungarian Grand Prix. Personally I don't feel that his accident was necessarily the thing that broke him, I feel it was his crushing loss of the championship at Brazil the year before. The first half of 2009, before the accident, Massa was already just a shadow of his former self. True the Ferrari was a dog that year, but Massa also looked uninspired and showed none of his talent to outperform the car. The accident didn't help matters of course, nor did Ferrari's ever increasing focus on Alonso in the following years.

I still remember 2008, as a 8 year old Ferrari fan who started watching fully in 2006, the only 3 i had known at Ferrari were Michael, Felipe and Kimi, even tho i only fully started watching in 2006 i cried when Michael retired in 2006, little did i know he would come back 4 years later but anyway, i was so happy when Kimi won in 2007 but i was in total tears when Felipe lost in 2008...that devestated my 8 year old heart, at his home track going from winning the championship to losing it at the last possible moment...and since i was still young and didnt know that much about grip and stuff for a while ( around 2 years ) i always thought that Glock let Hamilton by...i didnt know back then that Glock was losing SO MUCH time in the last lap ( didnt he lost like 20 something seconds? ) but even tho i've known the truth for years now, it still hurts everytime. Especially knowing his life-threatning incident literally the following year, Hockenheim 2010 that in the end didnt changed the results of the championship and the following seasons. Dont get me wrong, Lewis TOTALLY deserved the championship that year, so did Felipe. But still looking back on it 13 years later i still have one question : What if Crashgate never happend? Would Massa have went on to win the championship at the end of the season ? Maybe, we never know what would have happend if Crashgate never happend, just ifs. But even tho Lewis won in '08, for me Massa also won in '08, especially with how he acted after losing the championship, yes he lost but he accepted the loss like a champion. Both deserved it.
