Fraternities and sororities are basically secret societies. They are the root cause of nepotism and corruption. In my country, politicians, police, soldiers, chief justice, senators, congressmen and businessmen are part of various big time fraternities. You can't succeed in your profession if you are not part of them. We plebs have no choice but to find work abroad because upper management jobs are given to frat members regardless of competence.

In some cases sorority houses (and fraternity houses) are all in one neighborhood, so the noise might not be as big of an issue as most people might think.
