    A couple of things that might help. .in the Cricut machine, take the coupling out of the left pen slot add the adapter to the tool and insert..this way you can cut on from one side and foil from the other. The foil tool replaces the “pen”. Secondly, stretch the foil as you tape it it make it as smooth as possible before foiling and your project will come out perfect.. have fun.. it’s a great tool...

    Do you think that it would take better if there were fewer wrinkles in the foil? Looks to me like it needs to be taped down better -- more taut -- so that the foil sheet can't "scootch" around. Looks like if the user took more time and care at the outset, they would get a better result

    Hi Jenny, I don’t have this tool yet, but I’m pretty sure I’ve either read or heard it needs to be in the pen holder side. I‘m pretty sure Cricut has instructions on their website on how to replace the adapter. It’s a little hard to get it out, especially the first time, but it does come out.

  • @crafttestdummies

    @crafttestdummies

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, my adapter didn't want to come out and I'm not about to break it. So into the cutting slot it went- with out an adapter! It worked just fine and I can't see why it "needs" to be on one or the other- except maybe for pressure.

  • @HandmadeByLinanne

    @HandmadeByLinanne

    CraftTestDummies I know exactly what you mean, mine was difficult to remove the first time too. Don’t know why, but the pen side is smoother, maybe decreasing pressure on the tool side will prevent your foil from getting dragged. I’ll be using it on my ScanNCut and not the Cricut. If I remember correctly I think you have one too.

    I have a Cricut Maker. My friend purchased the foil quill and brought it over. I removed the pen holder on the left and put the quill pen in the C sleeve and then put it in the left side where pens go. It worked beautifully except for one thing. It did not print on the mat where it was suppose to print. I know about "attaching" what your are working and then moving it on the mat online to line up with where the foil is on the actual mat. Bizarre. When you put the foil quill on the right side where the blade usually goes, what did you tell the Maker it was using? Still confused. Like the idea, but haven't gotten it to work well yet. Hope someone will respond to my message. Thank you.

    I don’t have that machine so I can’t test it for you, but I don’t see why not. You would need to plug your quail quail into an outlet or probably a power brick would be more convenient. Just set your calibration to text weight paper and it should be fine.

    I love the Foil Quill with my Cricut, however, I'm having trouble with my text. I'm wanting to make Foil Wedding Invitations, and when I upload my image and change the Linetype to Draw, it gives me the outlines of my text. And then when I go to foil it, all the text looks bulky and I just get the outlines and not the fill. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? :(

  • @sisfidy58

    @sisfidy58

    5 жыл бұрын

    Crafty Mawmaw: The foil for the Minc works because the laser prints images with toner (plastic? that melts to the paper as it prints, which also makes laser printed images non-smudging), rather than ink. When passed through the Minc machine, the toner re-melts and the foil attaches to it. That's why you let it cool just a bit before you peel it from the paper / image. This only works with foils that melt to attach to the paper or other substrate.

    Thanks for sharing and I always trust your real-world experiences with products - I saw the demo videos from Creativation and noticed it was the special at HSN - my question - is this really necessary. Full disclosure - I resisted and now it's sold out. I spent a lot of time weeding out my craftroom of cool tools, supplies, and stamps that I never used. I have a laminator and foil and laserprinter and a Silhouette - this is cool but how is it that much different than just printing and foiling and laminate heating and them maybe cutting like the print and cut ... $80+ shipping and the designs cost extra is an investment. Also, maybe you could demo using some other brand of foil - I don't want to have two types to manage - cost wise and space wise. The demo items were very cool and I liked the embossed look.

    Like you, I thought about whether I really needed this or not. I have a laser printer (which needs to be cleaned) and a laminator that has no heat settings and needs more than one pass through before giving a perfectly foiled look. Then I thought about the cost of sentiment stamps ... knowing that I can foil my customized sentiments using any font was the deciding factor - plus the hundreds of free svg files that I find easier to manipulate on the SCan n Cut instead of printing. Hth ... and thanks to CraftTestDummies for showing us what to look out for. Sometimes I get so discouraged watching all those perfect creations from other reviewers, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched you before buying something.
