To be honest, I 100% understand not wanting to give your precious characters flaws. That being said, I like to think of them flawlessly, hang on to that, but then ask myself "What development did they go through to be this person? When I think of my best qualities, what parts of myself did I have go work on to maintain or even learn to have that quality?" Considering the perfect version of them to be the person I'm using the story to work them into helps to keep me from feeling like I've ruined their image. Instead, I'm building it.

Screw that, I enjoy making my characters deeply flawed XD it makes their growth that much sweeter in my view.

i like to use the “two sides of the same coin” method. it helps me when i have no ideas. plus, it’s great for making characters fight each other (i love ruining their friendships)
I love how these hairstyle memes end up also being like character emotion sheets.

I don't know much about Sock yet but just from his visual design and the little snippets of personality we can see from the art of him you've done, I already love this greasy little rat boy lol
When you explained how you picture scenes in your head like a fully fleshed movie and these scenarios are often sad/emotionally intense, you are not alone! I honestly thought i was the only one making up scenarios with my characters from my story in my head like that! And even when I listen to music. I related so much because that's literally exactly my thought process of how i come up with some scenes for my story. In fact, it's the most fun and easy way, too! than having to squeeze ideas out of my brain when writing the episode scripts and my brain doesn't wanna cooperate. I literally jumped out of my couch, saying, "YES!!" When you explained how you come up with scenes in your head and how you visualize them as a full-on movie! I've never related so much to a fellow webcomic creator before! 🥹💜 I literally thought i was the only one, dude!😅 And can i just say? Your art looks so good! I love watching you draw, makes me wanna pick up the pen and draw as well💜 I am looking forward to more webcomic related videos! 😁 Sorry for the long ass paragraph...

This is my thought process as well. I always visualise in a third-person perspective, like I'm watching a or directing a movie, and no one else I know does the same.

@peachesandcream8753 it's so fun to do that, tho ^^ it's like watching a movie featuring your beloved OCs
I really recommend Yana's artbook Prism! It's seriously the most beautiful artbook I own and it's so inspirational and well put together
It’s actually really cool to find someone else that thinks like I do with starting with a scene in their mind. I always felt weird saying it because I thought it’s not how anyone else does it, but my idea in creating my story has essentially been: Envision a specific high-impact scene -> note that scene -> write a plot to build to that scene that I envisioned. It makes it kinda exciting for me to build out the plot from that scene and gives me somewhere to develop a character towards.
His long hair makes him look like Larry from Sally Face. LOL it’s actually a good look for him.

I thought that too but i was too scared to comment 💀
First time seeing this channel, but I clicked on the video immediately upon seeing the thumbnail and thinking "Is that Sock?" Only to confirm that it is. I haven't read that story in like...10 years, but its heart warming to see the artist still going at it!

@@CosmicSpectrumArt btw did you ever get that story to the end point? I haven't been on DeviantArt in so long lol
What you shared about your characters and worlds feels so similar to what I faced/am facing, it's nice to know someone else had the same process :]
The more you speak about your writing process the more I have faith in my own. I also prefer character driven stories, internal character driven conflict, starting with characters first and discovering their emotions and behaviors as plot points, as well as studying human behaviors and emotions to make stories and characters feel more realistic even in fantasy settings. For so long I thought this was wrong because my conflicts were minor slice of life ones, nothing drastic no bad guy to beat up, just characters fighting themself, and sometimes themself vs others expectations on them, or opinions. And It can be a hard thing to write because so many people see stories like this as less interesting if not done well, simply bc the conflict isn’t clear it’s more nuanced and if not drawn home i always worry that my stories can read as having no conflict or boring mundane conflict at best. But this gives me hope that I’m not wrong and instead on to something with my writing process, as it’s pretty much the same as yours.
10:43 Yeees I have those too. Ideas that just stick and always resurface but I never write them down.
The way you brainstorm ideas sounds very similar to my own creative process so this was a very helpful video for me. I worried about my story not having a strong enough conflict but the part about internal conflicts counting was reassuring! Lovely art as per usual.
I straight up really super duper enjoy how you approach writing your processes! You seem like such a fun person to write with! I'd love to shoot the ish with you about writing and OCs!
There I have officially found my 2023 crush! Sock with long hair just did it for me. Thank you for this amazing video as always!
I absolutely love all of your characters, so even the smallest shred of content about them (even just seeing you draw them) makes me very happy :D I loved the video, the panel with Sock and HaeJin was my favorite
I IDENTIFY WITH YOU SO MUCH. I’m studying engineering and i never though about studying writing but i had the same process of creating characters during my adolescence to reflect my state of mind and I decided to write a story about him and everything you are saying resonates So. Much, thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
It's good to get more recent discussion and advice rather than hearing tips from times passed. 💥💥👍
a lot of your general processes and experiences with art sounded so relatable to my own 🙈 so glad to know im not the only one who felt defiant against rules and such lol
i loved how you talked about the writing process it was really easy to understand, im also trying to right a story for a graphic novel i want to make in the future, and this video helped me a lot. thaanks for the videooooooo ^-^
i was having a bit of an artblock on where to proceed with some of the concept art I'm working and then lo and behold you suddenly posting this video. Honestly I love this types of videos where you just ramble on while you draw you process!
Loved hearing about your process in such detail!! I have rarely seen another artist talk about making the narrative so candidly 😊
I like to dream up thease complicated and very emotional backstories for my characters, and still manage to legitimately make myself cry in my sleep...and I don't like it
I LOVE YOUR STYLE OMG
I love seeing you draw Sock more:3 Your art is amazing and your videos have never fail to inspire me to continue my own art journey! Keep up the good work
Beautiful work!!!
I really love your artsyle 💗
Oh wow thanks for sharing all of your process ans struggles, it actually is incredibly similar to my own process and way on focusing on characters for my own comic project haha ! Especially the ''Little various scenes that pop up in the head'' part I do that all the time and next, time to reconnect the puzzle...It made me a little more confident now knowing i'm not the only one with that kind of process, can't wait to see more of your project ! ♥
Your art is amazing
Can I just say that these character designs are great? And it might be so lame but they remind me of Gaara from Naruto. But like MORE intriguing to look at and so expressive!!
I like how you draw, wanting to learn more :D you’ve gained a subscriber!
aight, imma start drawing again, thanks.
You're very cool! And the drawings are superb! I would gladly read you comic
Midway through the video, you’re kind of talking about the difference between authors who outline first, and authors who just go in and write a first a first draft, with minimal or no outline, just making edits later. I’m more of the type who makes an outline before writing, but yes it’s totally a thing to just go in and write your story without any outlining!
Literally me I’m working comic rn and everything you said is stuff I’m pretty much doing
Thanks for making these! I love when you talk about and draw your comics!
realest shi I heard in a minute, awesome art too
Thank for this long video ! (they are my favorites). I was wondering, you have a lot of amazing brushes in PS, where did you get them ? Thank you ^^
This is Amazing! INSTANT SUBSCRIBE🌻 keep it up!
I also haven't finished anything. Still w beginner at writing and also drawing. But I know way more about writing than art.
Hi Cosmic do you happen to share some of your brushes? I would really appreciate it as a beginner artist is csp.

:o I love your art; what brush are you using to shade? Is it downloadable from assets?
NO BC MY CHARACTERS ALL JUST SO HAPPEN TO BE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF ME AND IM SLOWLY STARTING TO REALIZE IT
I swear I was subscribed to you YT says no tho. Was literally wondering why I haven't seen ur stuff in a bit then this popped up on my timeline.

🥲 I noticed a viewership drop that's pretty substantial.. I wonder if this is part of the reason 😭
Do you write in first person perspective or 3rd? Sometimes i wonder if it’s also cool to just write in a form of scripts🤔
i wanna know how you made that tape. gimme a tutorial for that. gimme gimme
really really like your art! your review of the GBP360 convinced me to buy one as well, can i ask what screen protector did you end up using for your drawing sessions? using the wacom one pen is ultra slippery on the glass screen (and i don't really like the default s-pen) and ofc its very glossy and reflective

The one I got specifically is this: www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07SXJYXRB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It has worked super well for me! I do think it shaves the pen a bit, but that's a pretty regular issue; I have to replace pen tips relatively frequently with the wacom stylus' as well.

@@frieren848 Np! i hope it works out :))
Can pls make a video like before where colour with ink.
I have a problem where I start off knowing what I want to do with the beginning of a story, writing that, then petering out as I become unsure of where I want to go next and then I stop. I gotta lay down the tracks more beforehand, and if I don’t want to do a whole outline then I at least have to plan ahead enough to give me enough time to think about the future and have some idea of what the ending is.

It all revolves around motivation. So it's a good thing to always consider that. When you're stuck, you could just remind yourself to think.. "now what? What's motivating this charecter?? Why are they doing this? And what's the beeline they should take to get there" ..then you should probably proceed to put obstacles on that road. See how the conflict can both hinder them but also make them MORE determined and motivated to get to their goal. And it'd change them along the way in a way that SERVES the purpose and tone of the story. Good luck. Hope i haven't been to intrusive

Try to think from the pov of your characters and figure out the next natural steps they would take, whenever you're stuck. That might help
The way you draw faces gives me strong Sun-Ken Rock vibes? Are you influenced by Boichi in any way?

i will surpass you maybe not in the end of this year but i will 🦆
wow parecen IA, tu estilo parece una jaja es un cumplido por que ese estilo es muy bonito ademas tus dibujos tienen ese aspecto de "vida" y son muy buenos
I mean, cartoons don't really have a plan lol Many of them are just random stuff going on But yeah, those are the exception, I know we're not talking about those
To make your characters more interesting or complex learn some psychology and personality theory. Try to understand why your characters behave the way they do.
This is the most emo, sad and creepy character I have ever seen, he looks like death
