Wrexham PROMOTED, what happens next? | EXPLAINED

Спорт

Wrexham have been the talk of non-league football since their financial takeover by Hollywood's Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, and with their recent promotion back into the Football League, many are now wondering just how far they can go.

They had a very simple approach. Hired people who knew what they were doing. Prioritised getting the best available manager and best available striker. Realised the best way to cover as many losses as possible was though creating a documentary which also boosts the exposure of the club which also attracts a better standard of player. It's a genius approach I'm just hoping Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd buy my Cardiff City and do the same. Would be proud to be owned by Ron Burgundy and Brian Fantana

I could see Rob and Ryan selling off pieces of the club to their friends as the team moves up the leagues, raising money, profile, and spreading out the costs especially if they get to League One and higher. Think about having Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Hugh Jackman, and others as partial owners and investors in the club. It would be a way to keep the profile up in the years to come once this first blush of stardom for the team begins to fade.

I think that the biggest danger is expectation. The problem with this Kieran Maguire's analysis is that he focuses squarely on Wrexham attracting fans to the matches purely from the local area. North Wales doesn't have another professional team and with them now being a 90 minute drive from most of this part of the world, as opposed to the 3-4 hour drive in the 70s, the last time they had a decent team, there is scope for the club to become the regional flag bearer. If they can tap into that and get the success they're aiming for then that fan base will remain even if the owners decide to sell. But they need to get there first.

Ryan just sold Mint Mobile for 1.35 billion dollars, taking in a reported 300 million. I believe this as an indication that he will have more investment in the club, and the spending will go accordingly. Hopefully as they keep winning, they don’t need to worry more about the outside revenue streams.

Comparing Wrexham and Salford is a bit bizarre. Historically Wrexham have predominently a third tier club, have made the quarter finals of a European competition and the redevolped Cae Ras will host internationals, albeit friendlies. This is a club with a massive history (record number of Welsh Cup wins) and has always had a fan base. Vastly different to Salford.

I think they can get to league one. Not next year, asking for back to back promotions might be a bit much, but i think that might kind of be where the level is at, based on stadium capacity and how costly the championship is. Clubs in the upper end of the championship pushing for promotion to the prem spend tens of millions. League one would be amazing and if they made it to the championship, that would be lovely given their history of 2nd division football in the 80s.

Wrexham probably has high chances of geting promotion back to back, they have strong squad and if they add someone to it or if just Foster accepts to continue with them. National league is quite hard to get out of with only 1 automatic promotion while from EFL league 2 there is top 3 who gets promoted and Wrexham's squad rn defo could go top 3.

@@legitrandom5924 yep fully agree, I think league 1 is when they will start to need outside investment, obviously Rob and Ryan are rich but not rich enough for the top tiers of English football, I think they’ll get back to back promotions and be in Ligue 1 until they get more invested then continue to rise. As far as the Premier League best case scenario 10+ years with excellent investment, recruitment, expansion, ext. But it could very easily be longer than that, although I think it will happen at some point.

I don't think Premier League is an impossible dream. Yeah, it's a lot of investment, and it would take time, but that also means a lot of revenues if they continue growing the Wrexham brand to get more deals. Being very optimistic, we are talking about a 10 years journey, and that's enough time to solidify a strong following base and find ways to make the club more sustainable based on those new revenue streams beyond the initial funding. Ryan has proven to be a smart business man.

Congratulations to Wrexham afc to their fans and to their owners. I see the usual financial buzzards have started circling already. Making predictions on what should happen next based on a short term scalping solution, this is not the long term plan of any football or sports club. In fact if these plans were implemented the old story that dragged Wrexham down in the first place would happen again. Instead of which, these 2 guys have bought the club, used their significant financial and social media clout and fulfilled their first promise, watch other clubs now find the same backing to help them. It can only help all the leagues.

This is one of the best takes I have seen on this. But there is precedent with Ryan in his other companies. He sold his stakes in Mint Mobile and Aviation Gin for hundreds of millions, but he agreed to stay a spokesperson and use his Maximum Effort marketing company as the face of both. I cannot see him selling all his full stake like those 2 examples since he really seems to love the team and community (as we all do now from around the world) but he is already working with the Ottawa Senators and a group of real estate developers to purchase them with a small stake but with the intention of doing a similar documentary.

Swindon, Bradford and Wimbledon have been stuck down there for years and they were premier league teams once. I don’t think it will be as easy as people think it will for them, but they are certainly favourites going into next season for autos

I also think their wage bill might not increase as much. Would you rather be an average Championship player, easily forgotten or ignored in a team no one cares about or you could become a legend in Wrexham with fans around the world. Today Mullin is one of the most famous and loved players in the world, had he stayed at Cambridge only the most diehard fans would know who is. Some players care more about legacy than playing in the highest tiers of the sport. Transferring to Wrexham will no longer be seen as a step backwards in a career so they wouldn't need to be excessively for it.

As was pointed out in this video, the value of the club is linked to its owners. I think they are in for the long haul, particularly as they would find it difficult to sell the club for a good price, unless it is bought by other celebrities with the same universal appeal, but that is unlikely. They wouldn't want to sell it for a song given the amount of their own money they will have pumped into the club after the initial purchase. The Welcome to Wrexham series generates good money and will continue for a few years, but will no doubt have a used by date. The money they will invest into improving the capacity and quality of the Racecourse ground alone (will be an ongoing project beyond the replacement of the Kop stand) will be very considerable. The investment in new players to help climb the football pyramid will also add up to plenty over the years. If they ever reach Championship level they will have done very well, but that is a seriously expensive league to play in by international standards.

In America because teams do not go up and down a division they make a lot of money, no matter how good or bad their teams are Whereas in the UK being in certain divisions means a lot in bringing money to your club. Obviously as they go higher and higher, money will become a bigger issue and they may bail out then, or gather a consortium of celebrities to own Wrexham (heres hoping they choose the consortium option).

There aren't that many good to great owners of clubs the further you go up the food chain. For their sake i hope Wrexham does well in the upcoming seasons and R&R stick with you guys through thick and thin (this will be the acid test as things wont get easier...)

They’re absolutely pathetic.. if they’d have got promoted without them two channels like this wouldn’t even mention it. I love Wrexham and Ryan Reynolds is a legend but I hate the hypocrisy from KZreadrs. I’m a KZreadr myself and my content is based solely on what my fans recommend/ask for.

Huge sponsorship deals. Selling out every single home game. A show on Hulu and Disney+. Dedicated owners. There's no reason Wrexham can't make it to, at least, the Championship league within the next 5 years.

They could get promoted to the Premier League but they have to be promoted another 3 times to do that. It's not quite clear yet who they will play next season as the season is ongoing and it's not confirmed yet which teams will be promoted / relegated from the league.

To put things into context. The average national league player will earn 1000 bucks a week. Wrexham attract the best players from league 1 & 2 and pay them up to 5000 bucks a week. They should be absolutely winning every week

You’d think we hadn’t already suffered a setback watching this tosh! If they were going to bail after problems, they’d have done so before now. And do you actually understand (or care) what these owners are bringing to the football club and to the town? If you’re going to jump on the Wrexham bandwagon at least get your facts straight. Some of the laziest reporting by a so-called journalist with click bait of the worst order!

A new buyer would keep them both in. It will help the billionair that buys a share. Cause most owners dont go to games. So its a comfortable place for a billionair.
