Wrestling: The Knee Over Toe Drill

Спорт

In this video we are just doing a simple drill to get us ready to shoot different wrestling shots. We get down on the mat as if we were shooting and place our chest over our knee. We are making sure we have the right mechanics for the shot by putting our lead leg in front, trailing leg behind, our chest is over our knee and we can place our hands on our knee or prepare to start reaching for the opponent's legs. We can do this slow at first to get the motion correct. Later we can speed it up as we become better at it. It is also helpful to do as a warm up and stretching exercise. This is typically done as a drill before practice.
We are going to keep releasing videos to help people new to wrestling like BJJ practitioners and kids. Please like the video, comment any questions so we can help you and subscribe to our channel for more.

Man, I’m not sure about that one. I’m lucky enough to have all the mat access I need. Maybe just go slowly with it.

How hard do you drop your knee?

Just do the drill slowly at first to get it smooth, then you can speed it up and do it harder once you’ve practiced for a while. Does that help?

@@BrandonsGym Sort of: I started wrestling a month ago and my knees feel really weak from the knee pound (age 26 maybe age related?) So when I go from standing to shooting I'm trying to go light on my knee but I wondered how important you feel it is to put all your bodyweight fast onto the knee or if a seasoned wrestler actually goes light on the knee? It's definitely a noobie question

@@chutneyferret3569 man I get it. I’ve done almost all of my wrestling as an adult. I’m over 40 now. My knees hurt often. I think good people can go lighter on the impact. I’m sure you’ve probably already thought of it but why don’t you try some knee pads?

@@BrandonsGym definitely a consideration; looking at hex pads because of the pad (impact softening) and compression feature (for recovery) Hex elite has a tougher than mesh finish so should last more than a couple of months.. Another avenue I've looked down is diet specifically to avoid/ repair tendon/ ligament strain- Refined sugar= inflammation Collagen type 1, zinc & copper are great for tendon/ ligament repair Nicotine, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen- impair healing That may be useful to somebody. :)

Well talk to your doctor if you have a condition that is problematic but otherwise just take your time doing this very slowly and keep practicing! It might take a while to adjust to it
