    Preset switching speed imho is definitely a point that can be improved, so that you can use the whole effect chain.

    I don't own anything Kemper, but I think the Player is a fair deal for someone to take "their" amp sound with them if they can't use the amp itself. I think of it more as an amp in a box product, except with more choice as to which amp that would be. Not sure why there's so much complaining that it's not all things to everybody.

    I feel like Neural is going the DLC route and Ive only seen myself discussing this but They're releasing paid plugins with future QC import as DLC for the QC They really haven't added much or updated current amp models.

    Yeah and it seems like high gain hasn't really been a focus since the original Gojira release. There's been the SLO and Mesa mk3 but tons of left field artists and cleaner/prog amps. I think their modelling is pretty top notch, I'd love to see them just make a rectifier plugin or a stack of marshalls and peaveys.

    I don't see new hardware from a lot of the big players coming any time soon. I don't think we'll see an Axe FX IV for example. There's virtually nothing the III Mk2 Turbo can't do. The sounds are already top-class and are imperceptible in a mix or live. The only things I see happening are touch screens becoming more of a thing, which as the frustration regarding a lack of a desktop app for Quad Cortex until very recently shows, people are happy to program their units on their computers and then make small tweaks live, which any unit allows you to do relatively easily. Processors have also massively increased in prices. Pushing for more cores or compute power for only small changes doesn't make a lot of financial sense for either the companies or us musicians, at least from the way I see things.

    Yeah I'm mostly on the same page, I think manufacturing in general is more of a hassle / more costly which means new units will probably need to retail for even higher... and all for major diminishing returns. You'd really want to squeeze every last inch out of the units with firmware upgrades before needing to refresh hardware. Axe3 is hitting some limitations with IR's and storage but nothing they can't jig around or manage just yet. I'd be surprised if they hit CPU limitations anytime soon on the flagship model. There's even a small chance a 4 never needs to come out, crazy to think

    I guess Kemper sets a precedent here: Imagine modelers where every single thing has to be bought separately, kind of like IK Multimedia's stuff. The HX format is so great because of all the features that have been added over time with firmware upgrades. If every new firmware was 50 dollars or every new amp model was 20 bucks and every new effect 10 quit, they could be making lots of money. Should there ever be such a product, I really hope no one buys into that ecosystem.

  • @ampspedalspickups

    @ampspedalspickups

    Yeah that sounds horrible lol... Its a very IK approach to things and it rubs people the wrong way. We're already paying top dollar for hardware units which should goto past/present and future R&D... not nickel and dime people along the way.

    @error8418 I don't mind touchscreens. But I really like the knobs on Helix. I had a actually Headrush Gigboard for some time. And they only thing that I felt really improved because of the touchscreen was moving the effects around in the chain. Otherwise I prefer the knobs and user interface for editing on the Helix. I felt it was faster, more responsive, and easier to use the dials and interface of the Helix than the touchscreen on the Headrush. Even the Zoom G6 has a touchscreen and would have liked to use a knobs to scroll through the effects instead of just the touchscreen. The only thing that I would like to see updated would be if the HX Stop had a slightly bigger screen.

    Sounds like they’ll keep the helix platform but maybe new hardware models with more dsp will come out. I’m hoping they jump on the NAM bandwagon for captures cause mixing and matching modelling witb captures would be awesome. I’d say that’s exactly what they’re doing, it makes the most sense

    @BobbyCulpepper.srv3fender So prog and metal are the only genres that you think use heavy effects and would bennefit from more dsp? Theres a pretty large p&w community of church musicians and lots of guys trying to cop the whole edge u2 type thing that both like using heavy effects and dont want delay tails or reverbs cut off when switching patches. The metal and prog guys use it too for sure but there is alot of other musicians that can run out of dsp pretty quickly we dont all play or listen to blues or dad rock that doesn't use this kind of technology to its maximum potential.

    I think it’s kind of in it’s own niche. If you want to profile certain unique amps or your own, it’s still the standard. Yes, the QC and Tonex can do it too, but they don’t have a proper marketplace, so there are barely any professionals to buy profiles from and they don’t have anywhere near the marketshare or relevancy in the industry for that sort of thing. Other than that tho, if you just want a great live or recording rig, I don’t think Kemper really has much of a leg to stand on anymore against Fractal, Neural and maybe even Helix

    It's easy when you understand technology does not have to get out every 5 minutes in order to be considered technology. Look at the Strat: 70 years and still is the most well-thought guitar in history...

    Objectively better.. no, Nothing objective about user preference. I personally hated the Tonex desktop app ui, and QC didn't even have one until recently. Helix and Fractal are great modelers but can't really be compared. I ended up selling them all and kept a Kemper+HX Effects combo. Do what works for you. A good tone doesn't get outdated.
