After watching Oats grind out this category for months on end, including watching several potential WRs die to COMICALLY bad Tourian RNG, he's earned a tremendously-deserved rest with this WR. Congrats once again, Oats!

He was the first speed runner I ever watched and was mesmerized by the insane mastery of that game I loved to play so much growing up. I knew exactly how crazy awesome it is to be a speedrunner.. because I can't do it.... I'm so glad he finally got his record back...
The fact that he says "we did it" "we made it", he includes his community to his success. Oats is an incredible human being, humble, smart and overall a nice well rounded dude. Congratulations my guy, you deserve to rest and chill for a lot of time. You have entered the halls of legacy.

every streamer does that. For some reason this happens naturally with all the interactions you have with your chat.

Imagine being so naive and infatuated with someone you've never met that you attribute something that EVERYONE in their same profession does to them, and use it as evidence of their character. By this logic every streamer/speedrunner is just as incredible to you.
@pabloezcurlbar7253

That's just a parasocial illusion. You're merely being included for every positive notion to feel good about being a witness. That's because the entertainer needs you to be there. Why aren't you questioning the phrasing, when the streamer switches to 'I' as soon as anything goes wrong, "I messed this up' i.e. When the run goes bad, the runner is alone again, as this is the disillusioned state of their existence. You're just a spectator that's needed to protect the lifestyle. The entertainer needs the entertained and vice versa, there's nothing more to it.
Dude, I know you give yourself a lotta crap about the emotional reaction, but for real I've never found you more relatable than in that raw moment. Cheers, brother!
Since the day Zoast got his 40:45 WR I always thought "Oats can get this someday", and here we are! When you said that Any% is your focus again and you started the grind people doubted big time, because of the 41:XX at the time, and now you crushed the record by 9 seconds! This journey was so great to watch and really seeing how hard work, consistency and determination can get you to the top was truly inspirational. People say it's just a videogame, but your reaction at the end of the WR shows just how mentaly draining it is and what an amount of time and work it involves to achieve such a time, and now with your insight on some parts it's nuts what a huge portion of "behind the scenes" stuff you have to deal with during such a run, constantly juggling the numbers in your head and making decisions on the spot while maintaining fluid and precise gameplay and also remember the visual and audio cues and switch over to backup strats if something goes south. Huge respect for every person who does speedrunning, and especially you Oats for achieving your goal. Rest well and fill up your battery with whatever makes you happy, you more than deserved it.

Did oats ever hold WR for 100%?
@void1359

Not to mention juggling that with chats bullshit.
I didn't realize how daunting of a task this was mentally until Oatz explained every little bit...from seeing how high Samus is jumping, to watching where her feet are lined up, to even watching the turrets at the end...all very hard to keep all that focus and execute.

He is legend
This is one of the most impressive things I've seen. We all know how hard you work, OATS, so it was legitimately therapeutic to see the stars align for this WR run, and for most of the RNG to work in your favour. Congratulations OATS! Can't wait for the tutorials also.
1) I couldn't believe Oats had been working on this since February 2022. That is some huge committment. I thought it had been more of the last six months. 2) The level of knowledge Oats has on each of these rooms is insane. I wish he'd would document a bit more of it. He literally spent over a year and a half on this and it'd be fascinating to see the things he's learned. He's literally got to be THE top expert in the world at it. 3) The fact that he pushed so hard is truly inspiring. He knew as long as he kept himself healthy mentally, he could take on this tremendous challenge. It's incredible to see that mental fortitude. Would love to know more about how he kept himself together mentally during this whole process.

he did plan to make a speedrunning guide to any% now that hes completed the grind, so id keep a look out for that^^
“Stop making excuses and execute!” Man, I remember hearing this all the time and this run honestly felt like pure execution. Smooth like butter in so many places and although I lurked a lot due to work, was waiting for when you’d get it - was just a matter of time. Congrats on the WR!! Even though I knew what It was going to be on the original upload, I found myself grinning like an idiot when I saw the ending - that relief and happiness was palpable. Congrats again Oats!
Amazing WR, not only you beat the prevous WR, you DESTROYED it by 10 whole seconds

And there is still optimization for future runs. I know Oats is done with world records, as we know of now, but it's going to be interesting run to see when this world record gets beaten.

@revolverjesus98 Yeah and watching his world record next to the previous one, it's insane to see the small details that netted him a faster time.
11 years of hard dedication to SM .Congratulations on this oustanding acheivement. I've seen you conquer SM Impossible and Kaizo, all while interacting with a live chat. I have no words, you are the OatsnGOATs!
Having the goal time be “sub 41 / second place, but WR if my mental health allows” was a really healthy goal to set. It’s really easy to burn out and have your mental health be negatively affected when you’re putting so much time and energy into a game. I think you’re setting a really good example for anyone wanting to get into speedrunning and the community would be healthier if more people had the same mindset. You absolutely deserve this world record and after having seen you lose so many runs to RNG bullshit it feels so good to see you finally get it.

I can't agree more with this comment. Oats is a great example of someone in the game streaming space making healthy and responsible decisions and setting a positive example while "faux-projecting" a semi-toxic masculine entertainment persona, yet underneath is an extremely well balanced individual with an intelligent and respectable and empathetic world view. He has repeatedly proven to his audience of both young adults and us boomers alike that you can be both charismatic and kind while also projecting an air of maturity and actual healthy masculinity while engaging in joking rhetoric with his diverse chat. He has worked hard towards a goal and he has prevailed. Something that you can apply to many facets of life. He's an inspiration and the journey has been wild. I never had time to watch Oats much on twitch but I have watched you from the sidelines here and on your VOD channel and it's been one hell of a ride. Oats, I wish you well in whatever you do next. Take care of yourself and never stop being awesome. See you next mission! 👍
As someone who wasn't able to catch the livestream, Hi from KZread and I'm glad you followed it up with this watch along! What a phenomenal WR and run! Its been a long time coming and you did it in absolutely the best way possible! Hell, I'd love to see the lil deep dive from when you started the grind, PB to Milestone PB, to the end of accomplishing the WR! WE BACK BOYS, OATS IS THE GOATS
Every run was getting way more polished. So much has to go right on a run to get a wr it’s insane. Very proud and happy you got it and obliterated the record.
Bro as the most sideline of all fans watching you grow for many years now, I'm super happy for you and think you're a real inspiration for young lads. Keep pushing and reaping the benefits.
Seeing Oats finally get the world record he deserves has healed my heart. It makes me so happy. ❤
Super Metroid Any% is my all time favourite speed run to watch - so much history, so much dedication from the community of runners, so much precision and optimization, as well as innovation. In my mind it’s the pinnacle! Really appreciated the insight into Oats mindset and process. Massive congratulations to him and his supporters.
Nice recapping. There can always be regrets or woulda shoulda coulda moments, especially afterwards, but in the heat of the moment, you really showed how your dedication paid off. Burnout and the having to be dead inside can really get to a player when they're pushing hard to overcome seemingly impossible odds. It was how I felt beating Tetris at max speed on my Nintendo as a kid, after years of practice, or the Beatle Mania mini game in Mario RPG on the SNES, afterwards I just moved on after beating the games people thought were impossible. You did great, and I doubt you'll ever really forget this experience. Take care.
Mental health is SO important. I'm currently working on mine, too.
Congrats, Oats! This is an amazing accomplishment. I really enjoy your content and I was really happy to see you get the record.
I’ve generally been more of a zoast follower over the years, mostly just because I found him first. I still lurk your streams on occasion to see the competition and I’m always impressed with your positive demeanor. With that being said, I am super happy for you, Oats. I can see the time and dedication you’ve put in to this, and truly no one deserves the record more than you do.
Holy shit I'm so so so happy for you Oats.
Your reaction to the WR was so awesome! Congratulations again on the WR!
Congratulations on the run! Been following for months and followed the journey. Very inspiring! 🎉 happy for you!
Can't wait to see the SummoningSalt video on SM Speedruns with you as the victor! Gratz man well earned, well deserved.
Hoping this record stays for a good amount of time! You deserve it so much!
Congrats on the WR, and so glad that you got there in a satisfying way. You 100% deserve the joy after the hard work!
Big grats man, I've been watching for a long time. Never had a doubt you could do it. The fact you kept with it guaranteed a result like this eventually, so happy to see you get it!
i have been watching your videos ever since i saw the metroid impossible run for agdq 2020. ive tried to watch almost every single video that has come out since. and man. its been a fun journey. i wish i was on for more streams but at least i was here on youtube. seeing the development over the last three years has been extraordinary. congrats oats. cant wait to see where you go next moving forward.
Massive congrats, Oats! I appreciate you making a follow-up for us to discuss your thoughts on the run. I'm looking forward to Summoning Salt's next Super Metroid video!
I remember when I had my time doing WR in dragons lair I see a lot of things the same the work, research, friends support, fans, even pinball Pete’s free plays to practice…..if it means anything Oats I know exactly what you went through and will be going through in next few months…Time to reinvent yourself! Will continue to watch say hi to real cutie for me and I’m officially passing the torch this year to my two sons who will take the 43 year mantle of Lord Laradil as Laradil Green and Laradil Blue. I’ve played games since Pong Counsel my hands are old and arthritis is kicking in please keep playing for me so I can watch you young uns. Crazy Larry out!!!
Ggs! The run was insane!!! ❤
Well played dude! Grats and thanks for all your work. I love watching these vods. Good luck next oats 🤘
so proud oats! great run! Oats is truly the GOAT. Good luck on anything you do :)
Hey man, congrats on the world record. Amazing run! It’s been fun watching you grind this. 👍
Awesome job. Congratulations!
was just thinking about this video! congrats oats!
Congratulations on a well deserved mental break man. You definitely deserve it and enjoy because it was amazing and stressful live
Oats I’m still so happy for you! Seriously man, congrats!
Amazing grind and amazing WR!
Huge you respect for you, Oats! Your mental determination and perseverance is really inspiring to me.
Couldn't be happier for you Oats. You've certainly earned it. This is the best speedrun I've ever seen. Not just SM, but in any game.
Wow!!! Congrats!!! I am so happy for you.
oasss... this is a great breakdown of the run and I'm super happy that you achieved this
Been a crazy journey watching all these years. Congrats Goat!
This is so amazing man. Congrats!!
Oats, first congratulations on the absolutely huge accomplishment. Second, it's really cool to see you talk about the mental health aspect of elite performance like this. Iirc there are a lot of people who suffer from depression after accomplishing a long standing goal and based on the symptoms you were feeling in this video, I think you might be having some kind of anxiety/mental health stuff going on. You should consider going to see a therapist to make sure you have the support you need to work through your feelings about this. All the best and congratulations again.
Everyone else has already said it better but congrats Oats. Truly one of the most impressive WR I’ve seen.
Congratulations Oats, much deserved and earned WR, 👏 🎉
Oats, I'm so proud. ❤ And so happy.
You're right about that nerves thing. Whenever I'm performing or stressing at work, I take a second and remind myself that I've done this 1000s of times and that nothing will go wrong

There is an art to being in that calm space. I think working in high-end restaurants taught me that, but playing live music on stage also gets me into that zone, usually after being insanely nervous and shaky for the first song or so.
SEE YOU NEXT MISSION 👍
Cool explanation, man. Congratulations once again!
I used to watch years ago before you blew up, kinda drifted away from twitch and keeping up with speed runners as time went by. Getting recommended your wr video was a nice suprise. This run is legendary man, no joke. The intensity, chats energy, that heart felt finale. You got summoning salt headed your way, no doubt.
Absolutely GOAT!!! You absolutely blew the WR away. 9 seconds to get this, the lessons you preach you run with. Always generous with your advice and always open to help. Love your streams and really awesome to see. SAD I missed the WR run, but was able to catch it on youtube. Congratulation oats, well deserved and at 9+ seconds is insane. Absolutely BLEW away the WR.
@oatsngoats I am so proud of you. I watch you doing so much, but it's on my firestick (no commenting ability) so I took the time to come here on my phone just to give you praise. You deserve this. You also have earned some time to relax. Maybe play some other games to decompress? We are all proud of you!
Congrats on this monumental achievement Oats! The positive development in your mental outlook during this grind was there for everyone to see. I remember when you ditched SM for a little while a couple of years or so back - I saw the stream when you said you were pretty much done with it, and I felt your pain. But you came back stronger dude. You have entertained and made so many people so very happy over the years and you truly deserved this run. And we are all eternally grateful for your skill, perseverance, humour and most importantly tomato plants. GG from benjokazooie XXXXXXXXXX
Thanks for making a watchalong, its fun seeing you dissect it post-run
Love to see it man. So glad the grind finally paid off. Oas is indeed the goat
Hard work and perseverance. Good on ya mate.
So good. Congrats Oats.
Congratulations Oats
I look forward to future ventures with Oats!
Just wanted to say congratulations again!
It is so great to see you get this WR, man.
You're awesome! Congrats🎉
Been watching you off and on since the early days of Games done quick! Including your races... Congrats on World Record!
I am so happy for Oas having made such a monumental achievement.
Thank you for the years of entertainment! I hope more content is to come but even if your were you to retire from streaming today, it's been an amazing journey watching you over the years! I'm very thankful for the hundreds of hours of entertainment you've provided me. I hope life continues to fare you well and hope the best for you and yours in your future endeavors!
The slow splice stream was the day the grind turned on its head. Was only a matter of time after that. Glad you stuck it out, Oats! GG
Even as someone who watches SM alot, it's actually staggering when you are reminded how much goes into these runs. Hope to see some people make videos about this run and how insane it is, breaking down the little details. There's not many games with this high of a skill ceiling.
Honestly I been watching oats forever I always thought he was the SM goat. This record right here is and well deserved achievement and we all knew this was going to happen. Im happy for you man !!
Justice at last ! Oats is probably the most deserving of all the capable runners. GZ !!
Ive been watching everyday he posts since he was low 42 saw the 41 progressions little by little. Now we here. Wow
so proud of you oats! what a FREAKING ride
18:00 attaching at gravity is new meta fellers
Can't wait for the Summoning Salt coverage.
I really admire how much you kept your mental health at the top of your priority list through the whole grind. It's way too easy to let our goals overreach our needs. ❤️
Absolutely insane Tourian

Maridia too was pretty solid
Congrats again Oats!
I usually watch your randomizers and find the gameplay increadably impressive there, but this is on a whole nother level. GG Edit: The amount or frame-perfect or near frame-perfect tricks in this run is mental!
Holy smokes congrats!!!!!!!!
Can’t wait for this to make it to the SummoningSalt video
Unreal.. Nice job oats!
please make a tutorial on this, not because I would ever likely follow it, but because it would showcase how much detail went into routes and abuse of game mechanics. The damage boost memorization throughout the run is nuts!
Feel you about the mental health. Mine went bye bye awhile ago but when I talk about it then people say I’m being emotionally manipulative. There’s a reason so many men keep their issues in a jar tucked away.
Little late, but congrats, Oats. You deserve it, buddy.
So Awesome! 👏👏👏👏
Super Metroid speed runs has to be the best speed running can get. Ever since I first watched my first speed run of Super Metroid I though wow this takes some serious skills and not just full of glitches and exploits. Sure no speed run is with out them for the most part but its the amount of skill and knowledge it takes to remember all of this that just blows my mind. Even more so after listening to what he has to know and has to execute to frame perfect almost all of these strats. Huge congrats again Oats, you rock my dude.
Good meta-strat breakdown.
This is such an accomplishment after all this time working on it. When will he be attempting other categories? Also “DOOD” when he lands on the ship should be a sound bite for the channel in some way
You're a legend Oats!
I look forward to the other games you're going to be playing! I really loved your Elden Ring play through. You should stream whatever makes you happy!
Even tho i enjoy watching you run this game, i just realized that if i knew all these things it would've made watching you much more entertaining cause i would know what's good, what's bad and what to look for
Honestly I’m not a big fan of the Metroid games (although I think I need to replay them considering it was years ago when I first played them) but I am a huge fan of retro gaming. Be it playing, watching, or reading about them. Though I have to give a shout out to Oats. I’ve watched him play many times on his channel, at GDQ and he’s such a great guy and part of the community. So glad that the hard work and years of grinding paid off. You really deserve it and should be so proud of the accomplishment! Anyway… Congratulations man!
Oats, talent IS putting in lots of hours. Even the people who try to make it look as if they are just "naturally" talented, they've put in tons of hours. At least in something with a translatable skillset.
The grind payed off he executed 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I'm really gonna miss watching the grind, it went on for so long that it became apart of my everyday life
I'm looking forward to your Karl Jobst video, you legend!
Id love to see a Summoning Salt update video on this category.
beating the WR by that much is already amazing but doing it while streaming and not ignoring chat is another difficulty level on top of that
