I remember as a kid visiting my family in NYC, watching this live and thinking I wanna anchor in NYC at WPIX. Instead I'm anchoring in Fresno. Life is weird... lol

Kaity and Jim were the team.

They've used it for more than a decade, and it still doesn't sound dated at all. Says something about how well composed it is. It fits NYC like a glove too.

I beg to differ. It sounds very dated. UPN stomped The WB, network-wise, in the ratings anyways but WWOR's news theme was more popular.

LMAO No I'm the most realest one of all of them. UPN/Warner Bros./WB flagship FTW. Tribune sucks and why the "The" before "WB"? "WB" ain't good enough

I think the whole thing is that WPIX has to use a custom pack for some reason right? 615 and Non-Stop are now combined, and at least 615 is active, so they can go there and say "can you give us a theme with this sig again?" Or, go there and say "That WGN theme? Yeah, do something like that." Wouldn't mind if this pops back up though. If you have audio branding this good, you can let it go for years. For example WABC, which should hold on to their current theme as long as they can.

WPIX still uses their custom package on their "News Closeup" program. Also, their 2008 Giant Octopus graphics are also still used on closeup.

R.I.P WB11 (WPIX New York) Wednesday January 11, 1995- Saturday September 16, 2006.

As far as I know, WPIX still has a decent archive (which is how they were able to get a Yule Log restoration). WABC has material dating back to I believe the late 1970s, and I'm sure WCBS and WNBC have similar archives. However, I know WNYW didn't save most of their material, and WWOR threw out most of theirs when MCA took over...

There is actually an earlier version of the theme that was used from 1994-1998, and both of these themes are referred to as the "WPIX Custom News Package".

It actually debuted on WPIX in September 1993 (replacing the Bob Sakayama theme), but Matt Jackson told me that the theme was updated in September 1998 (a month before Jack Cafferty was ousted).

I agree with you, Mike. If the people at wpix think this theme is outdated, they should commission an update. If they are not to return to this package, the pride collection 2010 updates seems a nice fit (with the current graphics.)

Jerry Springer will always be my most favorite WPIX Syndicated show.

I'm very much aware that WPIX dumped "WPIX Custom News Package" in October, 2010... as well as dumped "WPIX Morning News Package" in early 2011. I believe WPIX made a terrible mistake, and I wish they'd bring back both music packages... I'm not feeling it with the current theme music. WPIX also made the mistake of disbanding the anchor team of Kaity Tong and Jim Watkins, which pleased WPIX viewers... and I'm not sure if WPIX would be able to reunite Kaity and Jim anytime soon.

I'm not sure about other U.S. TV stations, and how well they maintain archives. I would hope that there are other TV stations that have done an excellent job in maintaining archives.

That's one epic theme there, too bad they lost their weekend sports anchor (Sean Kimerling) to testicular cancer.

@dan28129 Oh I'm aware, thank you very much. WPIX being owned by Tribune since launch has nothing to do with whether this particular theme fits the station and the city.

I'm not one of those people who say "WPIX stole CBS2's set and graphics" in fact they took it and brought it to the next level. Those pneumatic raised flat panels was cool and there was more stuff in the background. When 2 had unveiled their new set in 2003, they took stuff away by 2005, and when the time WPIX unveiled this set, the channel 2 set looked like a generic navy blue with harsh wood grain finish. Channel 11's graphics was also better due to the animation, 2 OTTH was still on an apparent CG from 1991, and such CG supported PC/Mac graphics files, but animations were beyond that abilities, not supported, not feasible (unless someone made an After Effects lower thirds, recorded to tape, have an extra tape deck and loop it/key in black spots if they so wanted to.) In short WPIX pulled a piscaso "good artists copy, great artists steal"

old classic, but no more everything changes.

WPIX should definitely bring back the WB11 because it brings back memories.

Well The CW would have to split up and become WB and UPN, only way for that to happen is if My Network TV and CW fail then it'd be possible "but it'd have to happen all over the states, not just WPIX but all CW stations."
