I really wish I could remember what Unholy Tanking Spec I had back in the day. All I remember was that I had an equivalent gear level warrior tank and had the same level of survivability and threat generation on a boss but significantly better aoe holding ability. I know I didn't go very deep into blood. What I do remember, I pretty much ignored all self healing in favor of more damage, threat and mitigation and let the healers deal with the heals. I think I was going for a caster tank...

This following spec is maximum avoidance, removing all self heal and all melee buffs in favor of maximum spell damage and spell defensives. It isn't best for icc, but if you do some 10mans with only or mostly casters it is very nice. wotlk.evowow.com/?talent#j0xZhgx0cMhZcgGh00dgf0zbuc:mM0Vm0

Thanks. As I described in the video, it makes very little difference to dks what weapons they use. Especially while leveling or gearing I keep one 2h and 2 1h weapons all the time and replace them on the go. ;)

@@nightangel6868 It is actually kind of big difference because there arent any 2handed weapons that give dodge/parry since dk is the only tank with 2handed weapon(besides bears), so instead that, you are using 2 one handed tank weapons which give you a lot more dodge,parry, and stamina is pretty much same. Also from runeforge you get 1℅ more defense. Also if you are taking Killing Machine, you get a lot more procs having 2 onehandeds since you are attacking 4x faster, plus Icy Talons +Improved Icy Talons. But you have weaker attacks with all melee abilities. but its fine since you get twice as much dmg from Icy Touch(because dks deal double dmg with crits).

@@tenkes5605 You get 1 more defense, not 1%, that means 4 defense rating, but the weapons dont need to be tank weapons either, you can use dps onehanded weps too if nobody else wants them, especially if they give hit rating and expertise. The main issue with having 2 weapons is that on bosses that can parry haste, they will attack you a lot more if you're not expertise hard capped. So you need either one 2h weapon or 2 1h weapons and 56 expertise.

@@nightangel6868 But as uh dk you want as much avoidance possible so Bone Shield last longer and taking SpellDeflection also scales with parry.

also lots of people are saying IF glyph is useless if you are tank bcs you would get more than 40% dmg reduction if you are tank geared, so its like having unused glyph spot

@@cristianmalisevschi7774 Yes of course, first priority is hit rating to not miss taunts or icy touch, then crit immunity, then hp/armor and lastly avoidance. Expertise is good to get, but the last on the threat priority for dks.

@@cristianmalisevschi7774 The melee cap is 8%, but especially as dk, you should aim for the spell hit, the cap is 17%. You have the glyph which gives you 8% and you need 158 hit rating from gear. That would give you about 5% melee hit as well, which is good enough. You can get more in order to improve the hit chance of icy touch and death strike, but the more hit you have, the less valuable it is. When you miss with any abilities that use a rune, the ruse isnt lost, so you can just use the same ability again. This means what other than a taunt, the only thing you are losing is 1.5 seconds of threat, which is no problem for dks because we can just spam icy touch with death runes and hold the threat. Missing a taunt in a bad moment can cause a wipe however, so getting that 158 hit rating is top priority, while everything else isnt mandatory.

Something worth noting is that reaping enables more deathstrikes; that's something death rune mastery can't do.

That is true, however just one death strike every 20 seconds or more. The death runes would be better used for other cooldowns like rune tap or bone armor anyway.

This is true and correct way to go for Unholy DK tank. Don't listen to the haters or people saying this is a bad spec. This is the best you can get out of Unholy for a tank. Good job!

How's this going? I just got 60 and really want to tank but don't like blood, I'm an unholy fan. Also trying to solo BF

Yes, you can totally solo it, but might need to get higher level or gear and might take a very long time. Unholy can get the same amount of heals as blood with just 1 exception, the vampiric blood ability. Otherwise, good luck, have fun and make love, not war!

I think you are wrong about the IBF glyph.. It is pointless as tanks already get more than 40% reduction as IBF is buffed by defence.. It is more of a pvp glyph or for DPS.

It isn't pointless, but it's just better then the others. Being able to use IBF without relying on any other cooldown in fights where you need to chain multiple cds is very nice. What other glyph would you recommend?

@@nightangel6868 my point is that it does not DO anything for tank spec.. or tank gear i should say because it only raises minimum to 40% but IBF already gives more than 40% reduction because IBF scales with defence. Unless it works different than i remember.. So if your defence raises your IBF to say 47%.. you will get that amount wether you glyph or not.

@@immo1974 From what I know from all my sources, the defence bonus is added on top of the minimum bonus. So the glyph boosts it by 10% on top of whatever it was before the glyph. I might think about a way of testing it, but I believe that is how it is officially supposed to work. Or maybe it is related to a bug, which again I would need to do some research to confirm.

Yes, out of all dks it is the best. But the best aoe tank is the warrior because of all the aoe debuffs.

This build is very bad and I hope any of you dont use this to grief other people. If you want actual good information head to the dk discord theres a lot of resources. This is just plain bad and wrong

Can you specify what is bad about it exactly? This is the best spell tank I could think of and the best unholy build I could think of. DK being the best tank against spells, what is wrong about the build? If you could show me a better build I might show it in another video or make a comparison between the 2 builds.

@@nightangel6868 Literally the default blood tank from the wowhead guide. I understand where you are coming from with the Magic supression and AMZ talent however you are missing out on WotN which is by default a better or "best Spell Tank" it outweights the 6% Magic dmg reduction and AMZ by a lot. AMZ itself is a very useless talent the dmgcap is very poor it could be only useful in very niché situation same with boneshield it. For Boneshield you would at least 1 Minute pulltimer to get the cooldown ready for the next one to max. it out on top of "wasting" a major glyph slot. It is overall just not worth it to bend yourself like that. You certainly can pull this off but its just poor use of Talents and Glyph. Btw the IBF is useless when you have enough def, the actual gain is very minor to 0 based on your defense.
