Я відчула твір трохи інакше. У мене склалося враження, що автор відчуває свою приреченість навіть в найпрекрасніші миті свого життя. Адже це не дивно, бо в ті часи ніхто не знав коли чорний воронок з енкаведистами приїде по тебе. Багато людей просто пропадали, їх розстрілювали практично без підстав і суду. А барабан, для мене символ спротиву, нескореності, рішучості (це козацькі литаври які бють перед і під час бою, і хоч смерть поряд, вони не відступають і будь що буде). Адже автор не зраджує себе, не тікає, а йде своїм шляхом, до навіть трагічного кінця. Шкода, що сам автор не зможе пояснити нам, що він мав на увазі, і нам залишаються тільки особисті враження і здогадки.
