You could try a little purple paint mixed in with the black on the coin, it will help to reduce the orange a bit. Always go for the opposite colour on the colour wheel if you want to try to tone down a specific colour.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this before, but a trick to get that paint into small areas for highlighting and such. If you're using acrylic paints, thin it out a bit with some isopropyl alcohol, lets the paint flow more easily into the nooks and such. Just a tip from someone who paints miniatures on occasion.

Simon, A bit of "Deja-Vu" ehhh? I loved the 3 pence cleanup, here in the States , Metal Detectorists find George 1,2 and 3 around old Colonial sites along the East Coast. As I watch your video, I look East out my window here in Ferndale ,WA. and watch the light snowfall, the first significant one this winter. I think about you and Nicola braving the winter weather to search for treasures. knowing how complex and diverse the detritus of the past is there. Our treasures are the Cascade Mountains with old growth forests and some COUGARS!,and on a clear day, I can see Mt. Baker looming up, thirty miles East of here. We don't have your layered history ,but growing up near the New Jersey pine barrens and the forgotten towns and forges pre and after the Revolution offered me a glimpse into our early days. Cheers, Rik Spector
