The video sure is something and it really pulls in the imagery to go with the song. Everything about this song is a contradiction. Being together but feeling alone. Sounds romantic but the lyrics are sad & heartbreaking. The choreo is faster than the beat. "Have I lost myself or have I gained you" is so fucking powerful.

House of cards is another BTS song with a pure R&B vibe. It doesn’t have a music video though. Speaking of which, the music video for Singularity is beautiful, and has cool choreography. I read that V was so pleased with how it turned out he took all of the back ground dancers out to dinner.

Yeah, RM wrote this one and there's a MV and there an explain video too. This was one of the tracks that had me sit up and say whoa. It's good ol' RnB. They have others in their discorgraohy this are RnB heavy. Stigma (another V solo), Paradise, Home, House of Cards and Singularity are my BTS RnB deadly quintet and they are still more. And don't let me get started on their more jazz tinged tracks. BTS b-sides are the main reason I stan.

This song is not a personal project, it's still part of BTS's discography. Not all of their songs are group songs. Some are individual songs, some are unit songs (rap line, vocal line or a mix). I think it's time you do an introduction to BTS video so you get to know the members better. What roles do they play in the group and their background. I promise it's worth it and helpfull. Do a video with "Persona", "Shadow" and "Ego" together, the 3 are rap song in the album Map of the soul 7 and are the intro, the interlude and the Outro of the album. They are based on Jung theory of the self... A lot to check in the lyrics and the essence of the 3 rappers is pretty well represented in these songs. If you want to do a solo serie with the vocalists.. Well you did read the lyrics for singularity but you didn't see the MV... So.. 1. Serendipity - Jimin 2.Singularity - V 3. Epiphany - Jin The 3 are introduction of each album of the Love Yourself serie and depict the idea of the album they introduce. 0. Euphoria - Jungkook is a stand alone song that come just before the love yourself serie. All of the songs I gave you have an MV. I love your reaction, thanks for doing it!! You nice, keep going!

I was waiting for this reaction lol. This song right here CONFORIMED V being my bias. First it was the tone of his voice. Its deep, sultry, soulful, unique and his range is incredible bc V can hit those high notes (Listen to STIGMA he took us to church 1 time for the 1 time lol).Then it was his playful boyish charm and then I heard his song STIGMA and then SINGULARITY, it was over. This is my favorite song. My #1 song (Jimin's song SERENDIPITY is a close 2nd). You should react to the MV to see the choreography.

LOL, I told you! If you love this from V, you gotta listen to his song, "Stigma", because it's just as good and he lets loose with such high notes in it it's like OMG. 💜💚

Also, this is from the same album as Fake Love, so there is definitely some similarity like you mentioned in meaning. The album is Love Yourself: Tear -- the 2nd in the Love Yourself Trilogy (Love Yourself:Her -- building relationship, Love Yourself:Tear -- relationship breaking, Love Yourself:Answer -- realizing you have to love yourself first)

For me, Singularity and Stigma are "bedroom" songs, if ya know what I mean 😜 And V's deep sultry voice makes it sexier.

Wow, you're really excellent at dissecting and interpreting lyrics! I've heard a lot of breakdowns of Singularity, and you came up with stuff I hadn't heard before, stuff that makes a ton of sense. Musically this is one of my favorite BTS songs, it just has such a cool vibe to it. It's the first BTS song I learned to sing in Korean, so when I play it in the car, I can sing along! haha. ohhh you have to see the video or live version of this, V is pure art.

If you want to listen to him singing in English, then Winter Bear and Sweet Night are for you. Those two songs are in English. You should listen to his song, Stigma as well. The vocal is amazing. But it's not all in English though. His other solo songs are Snow Flower, Scenery, Inner Child. Blue & Grey is a song with all BTS members (with Korean lyrics) but it was supposed to be in all English for his personal mixtape. Songs like Singularity, Stigma, Inner Child....even though it's only V singing but it's technically still BTS cause it's in BTS album. Among the vocal line, V has done the most solo songs either for BTS album, free released music or for official soundtrack. This kind of music is right up V's alley. He loves this kind of music....R&B, jazz, soul, ballad. Their song, Rain (one of my fav 🥰 ) and Still With You by JK have the R&B-jazz feel to it too if you want to check that out. The piano in these 2 songs makes me feel some kinda feeling lol. and both songs have the sound of rain 🤭 Whenever I listen to Still With You, it transported me to NYC dive bars in 50s lol

@@ToneyReactions I mean it could be that it has absolutely nothing to do with another person, it’s about him and his sexuality, which he is conflicted about. There are also some parallels between the Singularity MV and Confessions of a Mask by Yukio Mishima, which is a book essentially about a homosexual man having to hide his sexual orientation from the society in which he lives. RM was seen reading it around the time they were recording the album. If you listen to Stigma, which has a similar overall vibe, which V wrote himself and which nobody, other than himself, knows what it’s about, this interpretation will make sense. It’s a popular fan theory, it’s obviously not confirmed, but it made me listen to these songs differently. I initially thought of it as a song about a romantic relationship gone wrong, too. According to RM, the first 7 tracks of the Love Yourself: Tear album (Singularity is the first track) are based on one of the members’ story, they tell a story. He didn’t reveal who it was. Whatever the meaning behind it is though, it’s a great song, and so are Stigma and House of Cards, which have a similar vibe and which I assume you’ll like, given how much you liked Singularity.

Kim taehyung is the best performer and singer for me in kpop and singularity have the power to pull new fans in the fandom.

I am sooo glad I caught you so soon into this one! I can't wait! Bless you! Even before you let the track roll, I was antecipating your reaction. Just for context, you should check V's playlist on Spotify. He is an old soul. Although Spring will come and melt the ice away/lift the weight from his chest, his singularity was diminished by the significant other's attitudes/words as well as by his decision to endure it for too long.

Man I REALLY wish you reacted to the actual music video. The insanely smooth choreography, the visuals with the colors/scenes, and his full performance with facial expressions make it a masterpiece. It has english subtitles too so why? 😩 It’s ok to react to the video, then go back to read the lyrics.We won’t mind. His voice is beautiful and the music perfect but you need the whole experience. And Yep RM wrote the lyrics and knew V’s voice would suit it the best. He was right because no one but him can perform it the way he does. His voice was made for soul, r&b/jazz which happen to be his own favorite genres of musicto listen to.

I almost forgot, this video was released for their 8 year anniversary celebration of their debut June 13, 2013. It's a medley of their songs. I love that you automatically connected this to Fake Love because this song is the intro to that album. They're both on the same Love Yourself Tear album, aka, the turning point album of the LY series that exemplifies the themes you talked about. It was a 2018 album. My first comeback actaully😅

Another one of my favourites. This song on the surface sounds like the kind of music to get sexy with your intimate partner with...but then you read the lyrics translation... it's so not...lol I love that BTS has a lot of songs like that...that it sounds like one thing, you'd think something superficial...but there's almost always something profound or some kind of cutting social commentary.

And the lyrics are (as per usual :D) on point The song is really underrated, because in 2017 people were even less ready to appreciate artists from other countries as they are now. Also, I feel like Wale is underappreciated as well, but that’s another story :D

I teach ESL in NC. I showed my students RM's video with Warren G from 2015 for P.D.D. (Please Don't Die) during the pandemic for a discussion. The imagery from the video and some of the lyrics were so timely! And he was just like 20 or 21 when he did that! We talked about how he flowed so well in Korean and English. It's definitely worth a listen.

You should definitely check out Singularity LIVE performance, cause if you can feel this much with the lyrics and vocals, the live can literally shake you! Taehyung's facial expressions, body language & dance moves are fucking CHEF'S KISS* his stage presence has THAT aura you just can't take your eyes off this man.

I was fortunate to see him preform this in Chicago and IT WAS AMAZING! Absolutely my favorite song!

V is a R&B and Soul lover (when he was young he studied Saxophone for 3 years too), he has other solo projects (check out "V - Stigma") and even BTS have R&B songs... Their influence is mainly Black music and electronic music 🔥💜 Singularity came out in 2018 and was the song that included V into the dance line (before it was just Jungkook, J-Hope and Jimin) check the Music Video to understand why😁. Singularity was written by RM... His pen game is amazing 😍 This song, as most think, is basically a battle between the trueself and the person that you became that you don't want to be anymore... Taehyung’s voice suits this so well he is spectacular. Namjoon (he wrote Singularity) said it was inspired by a book written by Ray Kurzweil called THE SINGULARITY IS NEAR: when humans transcend biology. Its a book that basically talks about the future of technology and humanity. And singularity can mean irreversible change bc of such advance tech or the state of being unique and ‘singular.’ Another thing, bts use the concept of “spring will come again” a lot in their songs its rlly cool, you should listen to & watch the mv for Spring Day!

to me the song is more like a battle within the self. like trying to break away from the bad habits but they have a grip on you. looking back on your behavior and not recognizing yourself but you still keep the mask on because its what you know and it's what's protected you so far. even as the mask keeps slipping and its not you anymore

Ties perfectly into fake love !

I just want to say one thing that will help your analyses for literally every single BTS song: they never talk about romantic love. In this song, V is talking about his alter ego. He's hiding himself, his true self, behind a mask, in order to please other people (could be his fans or himself, that's up to your interpretation). The lake symbolizes the mask that he wears. He hears his own voice beneath the frozen lake, but he doesn't even recognize it. The song is about his inner struggle, trying to keep his real self down but dying to break free and be himself.

Mm, I disagree. I think the idea being expressed in singularity is applicable to relationships, which could be either platonic or romantic. I think it just as disingenuous to say it *isn't* about romantic love as it would be to say it is only about romantic love.

@@ashleyder9164 well I guess the best part about BTS songs is that everyone interprets it differently. It still applies to 90% of their songs, though- they don't hold romantic love to a significant lover. There's always a deeper meaning.

I think people forget that they have described the LY albums as a journey through a love that seems like destiny, but ultimately destroys itself, because it is not based on 2 people being completely themselves. After the agony of the end of love, one finds that you must love yourself, and BE yourself for love to work. It drives me crazy that some people cannot even admit that these men are human and that they have experiences like other people in the world. They are not these perfect dolls who only exist for the enjoyment of ARMY. They deserve to experience all the pain and joy AND LOVE that everyone else has been through. If they are not allowed to really live, their creative output will disappear or become stale.

@@lizzysmom8899 Agreed. The song being about love and/or relationships does not make it somehow 'lesser', either. Relationships are a vital part of everyone's existence in all the various forms and they explore very thoughtful aspects of it.

I generally have only seen people talk about this song in terms of self love. If it is romantic love, I honestly wouldn't really mind. It's still a beautiful song. I also am not one of those fans that think that they have never or could never be in a romantic relationship- I'm not stupid. I would wholeheartedly support them if they did end up in a relationship. I was just saying, for analysis point of view, most of their songs aren't about romantic love. And then I stated my interpretation of the song. I'm sorry if it came off wrong or offended either of you in any way.

the exact genre categorization this song got was neo-soul/rnb for those interested & i hope taehyung will tackle more songs in this genre because he truly has the soulful voice and ability to tell a story with it and make you FEEL it. also you might have already been told this but idc i'm gonna comment anyway - this song was the "intro" song to bts' LOVE YOURSELF:TEAR album, which was the 2nd album in their love yourself trilogy. the first album's main concept theme was "idealistic love" which is perfect, positive, strong.. usually how love is depicted so perfectly in media and such, being fateful and unyielding. then in this second album the concept theme was all the "dark" facets of love, love unmade, untangled, etc. as you caught onto it very aptly this song (the intro) was already setting up the stage for that as it talks about someone losing themselves, changing themselves just to get someone else's love and then regretting it because they feel like they lost themselves in the process. most of the songs on this album deal with very raw emotions like this: the struggle of losing one's self to love, pretending, receiving fake love (the title track for this album was FAKE LOVE), drifting apart, etc. this was a full studio album that tells a story through emotion, and in the middle of it bts starts to put songs that is changing the narrative to a happier tone. then in the last third installation which is LOVE YOURSELF: ANSWER the main theme is self love. throughout the journey bts' answer to this all is that beyond all one should love themselves & they made songs putting that message out to the world. new fans probably got to know bts throught their insanely popular singles (dynamite, butter, ptd now) but bts are actually mainly album artists and even beyond that category they make album series which tell interconnected stories. their release process is actually so mind-blowing because at a time you'll spend years till you get the whole picture of the story album by album, song by song, mv by mv, performance by performance. it's just so incredible because while you get the albums one by one the fans will spend a lot of time analyzing songs, concepts, art references etc we already got and then make theories of what they could reference and connect to, what they might mean for the upcoming albums in the series. it's kinda like you're watching a tv show and have the time between seasons to digest and then anticipate what comes next. i adore bts' singles because they always pack a punch and shows their strength in a single release, but my most favroute aspect of their releases will always remain their thematic album series. there's really nothing like immersing yourself into all aspects and mediums of art they use to build a series and then deliver musically.
