Grew up in the 80's and 90's in Phoenix as a sun's fan. Even then...I was still glued to the TV when Jordan was playing. The Gatorade slogan "Be like Mike" was a mantra repeated by every inspired kid with basketball hoop in his driveway. Simply unreal the way he and the Bulls just electrified the court. The only team I truly enjoyed watching as much as the 90's bulls was the 2005 "7 seconds or less" Suns.

I can tell you one other measure of greatness-- as a Canadian, I love hockey. Basketball's not my game. But during the Bulls' run of greatness, people in Vancouver and Toronto STOPPED WHAT THEY WERE DOING to watch the Bulls games live. Time off work, appointments cancelled, all that. Jordan's interest transcended even the sport of basketball-- he was a kind of god among men. I don't think Lebron can say that.

He was the reason the game of basketball hit worldwide. moms around the world didn't know what the hell basketball was but knew the name Michael Jordan. that's also when street basketball of 3 on 3 got popular. Animations like Slam Dunk and TV dramas of basketball made sensation. He was then once compared in a TV show to Michael Jackson on who the most valuable person is if i remember correctly. (his fame surpassed that of Jackson by then of course) He was the star of stars as even stars looked at him with awe when in person. He was a world phonemenon. He changed the game itself and the world towards it after. Not the same can be said to anyone else, not Lebron nor any other star in any sports. Yeah, if that can't be a true measurement of Greatness, then what else can be?

Tom Brady and Kobe are the only 2 I've ever seen come close but it still hurt MJ more to lose. Seeing MJ through both title runs was the greatest athlete I've ever seen. I just love how the intro looks. MJ shooting and dunking in the post constantly challenged by at least 2 players. Meanwhile, LeBron is dunking with others looking at him and doing nothing. That speaks volumes to how tough the league was back then and how physically and mentally tough you had to be. MJ will always be the GOAT for me, no matter what the stats will say. Because I got to see him play for a good part of his career. He was magic on the field. A pure wizard. (2 puns intended there)

I did notice the same at the intro. Lebron alone at the rim, but Jordan surronded by players trying to block. Also, the way this kid reacted to Lebron´s flop, showing shame on that kind of attitude. MJ made basketball what it is now, without any social media, just playing and winning.

This video reminded me why I used to love watching 90’s NBA, and also why I haven’t watched it since. I love the physicality and seeing Jordan dunk on an entire team. The last dunk in Space Jam wasn’t far off from what he did in real life 😂

It's not about numbers when comparing these two great players. MJ's mentality was different than anyone's. He was like a silent predator attacking at the most unexpected moment and most of time succeeding spectacularly. Also his physicality was optimal and skills phenomenal. He never gave up in the final moment.

When it comes to durability, I would still take Jordan. The rules of the NBA at the time that he played meant that he was catching a beating every time he drove in and he still drove in.

You and me both brother. Michael Jordan was THE athlete that I grew up watching. As an adult I became a big NFL fan and got away from the NBA, but growing up basketball was my favorite sport. Looking back, I feel very lucky to have been able to spend my entire childhood watching MJ play, and watched the entire run of the repeat-3 peat. Even in my late 30s, I can still hear in my head Marv Albert commentating as MJ stuck dagger after dagger into opponents in the playoffs. Lebron is one the best players the game has ever seen, but MJ is THE best player to ever play. Most of the people that tell me Lebron is the GOAT are people that weren't old enough to have watched MJ in his prime night in and night out.

What people neglect to mention about Jordan was he paved the way for Athletes to get the major endorsement deals. He physically changed the game on and off the court. Jordan litterally has shoes nobody can fill.

LeBron relies on his size and strength a lot to go through people like a fullback. MJ used skill. He would go around you, over you, put you in a spin cycle, or just mentally break your will. I'm 52 so I've had the good fortune of seeing both full careers... MJ is the best player I have ever seen, and it's not close.

I've seen both. And I think theyre on the same level along with Kareem and Wilt. 1 of the biggest problems with people approach to this issue is the rose colored MJ glasses of the 90's and forgetting the 80's, retiring because of his gambling issue that ultimately took his dad's life, and retiring again. Let's be real, MJ was basically Russell Westbrook in the 80's: best individual player but didn't win anything. On the flip side we over scrutinize evermove everyday for the last 20 years and forget he's been elite for damn near 2 decades, no breaks no off the court blemishes.

Pete rose lost everything. MJ stepping away in the height of his career for mental health ??! Mmm could be. Or it could the NBA handled him like most corporations handle high profile execs, then don't suspend them, they take leave. The don't get fired, the ask them to resign... But sure that speculation. What isn't is he retired 2x and LeBron has been in MVP voting top 10 for 18 seasons and counting.

As difficult as it is to compare two players from different NBA leagues, this was the best analysis I have seen. LeBron can't even get to MJ without going through Kobe. Bron is so good, but not on that level.

Michael Jordan is impressive during his prime. He is my idol in basketball. A perfect ROLE MODEL for all basketball fans even up to this day. He has no weakness just pure GREATNESS.❤

You notice one glaring thing in the video. When Jordan went to the goal he had someone on him and sometimes 2 people hanging on him. The years he played, when they played serious ball, and every little finger touching a guy wasn't a foul. Remember the days when he played the Pistons and he got hammered all the time. Can't do that now. If they did I think LeBron would end on a gurney, whether he actually needed it or not.

The most important stats on Jordan for me are that the stats for the Bulls players were all better when Jordan was on the floor vs when he was not. But even more important is that the stats of the Bulls opponents were all higher when Jordan was on the floor vs when he was not. Jordan elevated the ENTIRE GAME.

The Bulls were spectacular to watch in the 90's. Not going to lie, they made me cry and I cursed MJ's name for coming back from retirement and beating my Sonics in '96. I can honestly say, had Jordon not retired, they would have won 8 straight championships. No doubt in my mind.

Uhh Jordan lost 3 straight times in the first round of the playoffs. No one wants to mention that Jordan lost every time to Bird's Celtics. When Jordan beat the Celtics, they were an old 48-win team. When Jordan came out of retirement, he lost to the Orlando Magic. Ya'll are out of control.

The bulls improved record wise agree drafting Jordon. Year 2 he came back from injury early because he wanted to play. The bulls weren't even in the playoffs for 3 years before MJ was drafted. The got bounced by the celtics who were the great in the conference for those 3 straight years. How about lbj in his first 3 years? Oh they didn't even make the play offs in the weak eastern conference in his first 2 years? Do some fact checks and act like you have some sense. And with people like John Stockton, Bill Lambier and the Pistons, Mark Eaton etc... there is no comparison with the physicality in MJ's days compared to these days. Jordan gets a major hack (equivalent to a flagrant 2 nowadays), falls to the floor and gets up to continue playing without a look or a complaint to the refs.

That man created a vibe and excitement unseen and unmatched since.... I could care less about basketball nowadays.... but back then... it was FIRE!!! One guy said it best, Jordan made every play like his LIFE depended on it.... THAT is why he's the true GOAT. Look how many after copied him. his number 23, his look, his fluid movements, the dude is the TRUTH. There is only one.

Exactly. Now it’s a freaking all star game…zero defense…no big men blocking the lane. It’s silly. You see this on other sports too…baseball they exaggerate the HR and in football people pass for 4000 yards every year…stats are so oversaturated. I’m sure the idea is to bring casual fans in but it dilutes the game on my opinion and it makes it difficult to compare eras. You need defense for the game to be compelling otherwise it seems like an exhibition such as a three point contest, home run derby or catch, punt and pass competition.

Great video! I'm 50 and witnessed Jordan's career as a young man. The one thing that people have a hard time articulating about his playing days is 1) he literally brought it every single night and as expectations grew over the years he would still deliver 2) the buzz around every game was almost Superbowl like 3) he would take over close games offensively and defensively but win more often than not 4) his rise to stardom was very organic... he would just have such amazing plays game after game to which average people that didn't even care about basketball or sports for that matter became fans! I could go on and on but many people from my generation consider MJ the GOAT and at the time we all knew we wouldn't see anything like him again! Good times

MJ's 'flaw' was his personality. He alienated a lot of his teammates. He carried them and be set the standard which good things, yet he wasn't carrying bums to the finals or getting guys to play above themselves like a cp3 or LeBron

As a fan of MJ I'd like to point out that MJ's championship wins were '91-93, he retired for 2 yrs came back and won 3 more '96-98. Houston won the '94 & '95 championships. I'm a firm believer that if MJ had not retired the Bulls would have won 8 championships in a row.

I think that MJ is GOAT with no doubt, but not sure they would go for 8 in a row. Houston team those 2 years was scary, only team in 90's that could snatch win from bulls imo.

There is NO COMPARISON when Jordan obviously played in the toughest era and never cried like a baby and Leflopper played in the easiest era and flopped every night!!!

Kobe had that mentality. MJ still gets insulted when anyone even questions any aspect of his GOAT status, but Brady knows Rodgers has more actual talent so I wouldn't say he's got the mindset. Serena has seen many losses caused by error b4 and during her peak and she's been on the descent for a few years b4 reaching some championship title goals/ records sadly

I was a Knicks fan, and like many others, Jordan was my favorite player. I’d only root against Jordan when he played the Knicks. He was incomparable and nobody has ever been close. Poor Lebron should never had to deal with comparisons, because its utterly unfair to compare anybody to Jordan.

I think that you said an extremely important thing. LeBron defined his generation. Imagine him in Jordan's generation, trying his flopping with The Bad Boys, the Knicks and the Pacers all beating him into submission, not to mention the Magic and a young O'Neill. The refs would probably have laughed at him while he was on the ground. Moreover, there would have been no leaving a team, getting your friends to form a super team in another city or another city, etc. At least, he would have been part of a very good Cleveland team. He would not have to play under a Jordan Rules, but rather, a Hack-a-Shak rule since he is a poor free throw shooter. Can anyone remember a star, during the Jordan era, who would save their energy on defense to be more effective on offense? Finally, I could see Dennis Rodman being able to shut him down since Rodman was able to shut down more athletic players and more physical players than LeBron.

LeBron is a great player, seen his whole career. One could make an relatively reasonable argument that he's the second best player of all time. I saw most of Jordan's career too though, and there is no doubt he's the GOAT. And not just the GOAT, there's nobody on his level. He belongs to a tier of his own.

Listen, Jordan hitting 50% in clutch time is even more impressive when you factor in that EVERYONE KNEW HE WAS TAKING IT HE SHOT.

How clutch was Jordan his first 9 years in the nba?

I say this all of the time. It took a kid like LeBron starting off at 18 yo, was able to catch up to MJ. MJ had a 14 to 16 year career, LBJ has about twenty. Meaning? MJ has accomplished more in his 14 year career than LBJ has in now 20 year career. MJ is 👑🤴

I've never seen any athlete in any sport with MJ's will to win. You had to see it to understand. He refused to lose. I'm almost 50 yrs old, and Jordan is easily the best I've ever seen.

Not to mention, Jordan sometimes would play 18 holes of golf before playing games. Also, when Jordan was drafted by the bulls from UNC, they asked the organization what his weakness and they said was his shot. Fastforward, he ends up becoming the greatest mid court shooter.

I have had the privilege of watching both eras and I must say it’s not even close. Jordan was feared. Nobody wanted to guard him and everyone was afraid to talk junk to him . Jordan would tell players what he was going to do and STILL accomplish it aka “I’m going left”. Jordan hands down.

Watching Jordan in the finals against my SuperSonics... man. Nothing but respect for MJ. Even counting GP's bum arm, MJ turned me into a basketball fan. Not an NBA fan, but a pure basketball fan. I still love that 95/96 Sonics team, they were awesome that season. I was in the building for two of their three wins against the Bulls that season, regular season an game 4 of the Finals. I think that 95/96 Bulls team is the best team ever, they only lost 13 games that year between the regular season an the playoffs. Seattle gave them 3 of those losses, they were for real that season. I loved them but knew they were going to fall to the Bulls.... Really fortunate to have been able to watch that season an be in the building for so many games and see my goat. MJ to me is the best ever.

Not just practice. He learned things normally outside sports, like zen. When you watched the games live, you'd cherish the times that the Bulls were down with just a couple minutes to go. Then you know Jordan will come in, and like a samurai, cut down everyone. No fear, no choking, just the zone, the zen zone.

He did not push it to the limit. THE MAN SMOKED, ate what we now consider unhealthy food and did not have the help of technology as the players today have. AND STILL he was and is the goat. imagine his potencial with today's nutrition professionals and a healthier diet/lifestyle.

MJ is what happens when God takes a lifetime off to play basketball.

MJ wanted to win more than he wanted to live. His size was a huge advantage. He was able to slice into the lane, play out top, play defense anywhere on the court , handle the ball, and do it with speed and power.

It always shocks me when people just don't understand their is no comparison. MAYBE MAYBE Kobe, but not LeBron. When you watched MJ you knew you were watching history. He was just sooooo freaking good.

There is one factor that I don’t really see mentioned. Impact on the sport. As a child, I began watching basketball just because of Jordan. How many lives did Jordan impact for basketball? How many kids started playing basketball because of Jordan? How many of some of the best players out there today strived to be like Mike as kids? 😂 He helped shape the future of basketball and the entire industry of sports. We can’t always just look at statistics bc that would be like saying Bob Marley really wasn’t that good of a musician just bc of numbers. But his impact and influence on music and peoples lives was extraordinary. There is absolutely no comparison. Jordan is a legend and THE GOAT.

I am from New Zealand. 51 years old. Rugby is our national sport. We eat, sleep & sh*t rugby! Lol. In 1988 i first saw an NBA game. Bulls in particular. First time i saw Jordan i was mesmerized ! I never played basketball or watched it. From the first time seeing him play. Til his last. I was a MJ /Bulls supporter the entire time. And what a journey it was!! I have a jumpman tattoo on my forearm. Have owned several hundred Air Jordan kicks. A ton of Bulls merchandise. Bulls games on VCR & DVD lol. Fell in love with a game i initially new nothing about. Until Jordan came along. When he retired. I stopped watching NBA as much as i use to. Overtime stopped altogether. Because, No one has captured my imagination like MJ had done. Jordan introduced me to Larry Bird - Magic Johnson - Shaq O'neil - Hakeem Olajuwon - Kobe Bryant - Penny Hardaway & Countless others that i loved to watch. I don't think any other athlete in my 51 years will ever have the impact on my life that MJ did. He was something special. And I'm grateful i was alive to experience MJ Mania.

Barkley which was Jordan’s best friend at the time said Jordan might be one of the cheapest people he has ever known. Jordan out here investing in prisons while Lebron out here building schools for kids. Don’t even take this outside of basketball. Lebron is untouchable as far as outside the game. What is Jordan on his second or 3rd marriage? Bad gambling problems which is also widely known. Name one bad thing about Lebron outside of basketball? MJ was on another level. Globalized the league, & started the sneaker game. MJs style of play was just so smooth. Love from New Zealand 🤩

My sister and I grew up watching Jordan. When the Bulls came on after school, they always had the Bulls on TV. We were glued to the TV. We rocked all the Jordan gear. Had tons of posters on the wall, my favorite being the free throw like dunk in 88’. I would watch him play and then go outside and try to duplicate his moves on our smaller hoop. Followed his whole career. If you were able to witness him play in his prime you already know he’s the GOAT and no one is close. I could go on and on. Thanks for the reaction 🤙🏼

You were absolutely right. Michael Jordan is "just different." He beats almost every single basketball player in just about every measurable metric except for Chamberland and Russell.

I agree kinda. I’m from North Carolina and grew up a UNC fan and then a Bulls fan because NC didn’t have a NBA team yet. But to me the most overlooked GOAT is “Efren “Bata” Reyes from the Philippines. He’s a pool player but much more. If you haven’t seen his highlights, go watch them.

A lot of higschoolers run under 4.5 Jordan was much lighter lebron also ran a respected 4.5 he’s not really close to the greatest athlete bc he lacks mass the reason it’s crazy that lebron and football players move well is because they are so big

I still scratch my head when people try and compare MJ to anyone? MJ retire 20 years ago and we still talk about him being the best. 20 years after LeBron retires we will still be talking about MJ.

Honestly Lebron would have worse stats if he played in the same Era as Jordan, those 0-3 ft shots would be met with hard fouls and getting to the rim in general would be much tougher

No disrespect to Lebrón but separates MJ from Lebrón is 5) reasons when MJ play in NBA the game 1) was extremely physical 2) MJ retired for almost 3 yrs came back and had the NBA at his hands again 3) not only did MJ won 3 times retired and came back and another 3peat and 4) he won ALL HIS 6 Finals. In the other hand Lebrón has only won 4 and LOST 6 times and he has never retired and comeback and win 3peat 5) the 96 Bulls had the best record 72-10 and won finals something Lebrón will NEVER DUPLICATE

Kobe = gr8 human player LeBron = gr8 human player MJ = God ballin in human form.

A couple tidbits on MJ's 3-point shooting. It never gets mentioned that he was the Bulls most prolific 3-point shooter in the first 3-peat years in the playoffs. He made the most 3's and shot them at 38.5%. Also little known fact...everyone talks about the 6 3's Jordan hit in the first half of game 1 against the Blazers in 1992. What doesn't get mentioned is he ended that series hitting more 3's than the entire Blazers team. Jordan wasn't going to go out of his way to spam 3's just for the sake of it, but you couldn't leave him alone at the 3-point line either. It's not a weakness unless it can be exploited. You couldn't exploit MJ from there, he would make you pay for it.

Lebrón 4-6 in the finals, MJ 6-0 in finals. Lebrón 20 plus seasons……MJ 13 seasons……. Lebrons got excuses, MJ never made excuses. Lebron 6’8”. MJ 6’6”. Lebrón played plays against HOF’s in modern era where rules favor offensive players, MJ played in era that has HOF after HOF. Rules allowed for serious contact. Nobody will ever touch MJ.

I remember debating one of my friends who believes Lebron is the goat. So I asked him do you go back and watch the old nba games to prove this opinion? He said “ I just watch MJ highlights”. Then I knew his opinion was disqualified
