Season 2 of the Halo show is off to a decent start. The Spartan banter is great, the CGI is much better, and the story is moving along nicely. Now granted, I still have some problems with it, but I gotta say it's soooo much better than Season 1. Oh and the addition of proper Halo music goes a long way!

Chief out of his armour made sense for these episodes’ context. He’s on reach on “the home base” with his Spartans but in s1 it was laughable. Every chance they had on the battlefield they’d remove their helmets

Good point, I wasn't too bothered by it in these 2 eps, as like you said he was on Reach with the other Spartans, but yeah S1 was so much worse. Chief took it off every chance he got 😅

All of the performances are pretty spot on. The sets too. I don’t even mind the Kwan scenes, they’re pretty harmless and paced in a way that make them feel short. My only real problem is that when Chief says “The Covenant are on Reach.” It’s supposed to carry a lot of weight. But Reach’s significance hasn’t really been established or even mentioned? Makes the whole bombshell of the covenant being there kind of empty.

Kwan needs to take a trip to the library.

I personally don't think I'd be returning to this TV show (that isnt to say I hate it in any regard, just that I don't exactly feel compelled as I think I should be, so that one's on me), but I might as well stick around for the score as the guy behind God of War's music is now here, and the music seems to be great, as well as me being a sucker for HALO music in general lol. Wonder if it'd get an OST release though.

I don't start with 10 points and start taking away, I start with 0 and hand out between 0 and 2 based on: narrative consistency and rationale thematic cohesion character development and interaction spectacle (sound effects, visual art, animation) pacing. i give it .5, 1.5, 2, 2, .5 for a total of 6.5 / 10. there are definitely improvements. Marmite sandwiches are an improvement over Rock sandwiches but that doesn't make them great.

That's actually a great way of scoring an ep! I have to say 6.5/10 is still far better than the dumpster fire that was S1. I stand by my scores for each ep, but I hope the issues I have (mainly in relation to Makee and Kwan) get resolved soon.

I'm still trying to grasp how I was able to enjoy my time with these episodes considering how awful S1 really was. The UNSC drama is exactly what I wanted from an adaptation of Halo, feels good to see the politics of the universe be brought to the forefront especially with the excellent tone they've established. I'm still not keen on Soren, Kwan or Makee returning cause it brings back bad memories of S1 considering I'm enjoying every outside of those plots. Chief going to the club was so dumb as it weakens his character but i didn't mind him going to check up on Talia and give her some form of comfort after everything she saw, that's something Chief would do and I'm happy he's caring about the marines and everyone else cause THAT is Chief. I'm at least comfortable now but I need to see how the next episodes fair. I actually like the cortana design they have and i like the fact they're doing the old methods the games did

@FootedGhost the bigger question is: Even if the rest of the episodes are fantastic, will there be a S3? Personally I don't think there will be because of how many bridges Paramount burned with S1 and all the marketing stuff. This is why it's important to not antagonise a fanbase because you'll end up losing viewers and the actual people who want to make things right won't be able to release what could end up pleasing fans but that's the reality.

@@BaggyFTJI think there will be. Enough Halo fans are desperate for good content that it’ll have solid viewership, add the hate watchers and those who’ve never played Halo but like the show, and I suspect they’ll have a S3.

I don't think he was talking to Cortana when he is in the hologram room, from my point of view, he was talking to Makee, and by the way he has a Makee recollection during this time in the room. And the part where they talk about the nose is a reference to Makee's nose, which is unique. To be fair I think he is talking to both, Makee and Cortana.

Klaus carried both episodes

My best guess is that Makee is some kinda covenant flash clone or Construct that they use for infiltration as seen in S1, or possibly even interfacing with forerunner tech such as the Artefact. Otherwise her resurrection could only be due to some kinda lost twin plot or homebrew covenant science that I've never hear of. It'd explain the director's choice for including the recurring flash clone scenes with Halsey, maybe as to hint at the possibility.

I think it's somewhat solid so far! Ackerson is great, and chief having is helmet off on reach is something I'm willing to accept, as long as he wears it in combat. The pacing might be decent as well, if we were already shown the visegrad relay meaning the covenant are already on Reach.

I have a feeling that some of the characters, qwan/mackee for example have contracts for 2 seasons and by not putting them in they would be breaching that contract. I think the new people are still restricted based on the how the show was setup on season 1, like contracts, assets, financial stuff, etc. That's just my theory.

I completely agree and can’t wait to see the spartan III as well the next episode.

I was watching these with my friend and totally agree with Kwan, I can open to seeing her storyline slowly get dismissed but my friend really lost interest seeing Kwan, so hope her storyline wraps up soon so my friend can keep engaged in the show

I think the woman’s comment about chiefs ending soon was just to show how much of an extremist thought process she had. Those people were idiots and two I wish they had better sound editing without Spartan foot Steps when they’re in their armor, makes it seem hollow in plastic. If they just got a better sound editor, like you said, just putting in the halo music, made the show that much more digestible.

I don't get why there would be any question over what the Chief said he saw/experienced while attempting to rescue the Marines... It was established in Season 1 that everything the Spartans see and do while suited up in the field is recorded and transmitted back to HQ on Reach... So why don't they just review the footage?

The thing I'm really looking forward for in this season is a proper characterisation of the covenant, because the creators of the show said there will be 2 fan favourite covenant characters in this show to help characterise the covenant.

When it comes to that woman talking about how chief is going to die soon I mean we all know he does not die but also technically he does and i think it is in reference to the end of Halo 3 which is really not that far from the fall of reach and we see at the end of Halo 3 there is a memorial honoring the dead and 117 is honored on that memorial and the people in charge truly think he is dead and it is really only the Arbiter that thinks he is still alive.

Man I’m so mixed about these new episodes. Kwan and Makee returning better mean they get glassed on reach 🤷🏻‍♂️

Seen the episodes yesterday. First season wasn't super bad but I'm glad it's not exactly like the games because in my opinion it wont feel refreshing and I would know what to expect but either way season 2 was honestly good and interesting but then again I'm not super picky unless its something super obvious and bad.

One example of something obvious is cortona doesn't look like how she does in the game so when I first saw her in season 1 I was like she looks wierd lol but after a while I was like okay she doesn't look bad and now that they changed her I'm like bruh is this another ai but it was cortona so now I gotta get used to this new cortona look even thoe I prefer the first one since she looked a bit closer to the cortona in the games but eh oh well lol 🤷‍♂️

Man seeing the new Cortana Design, honestly thought that was the weapon from halo infinite 😅. The design are similar in a way.

1. I the Halo intro is so much better and sounds more "Halo" 2. Cortana: I really wish they kept the design of her from season 1 but made her more blue as she looks now in season 2. I can see that they sort of went toward "the weapon" ai from Halo Infinite with the hair. So, still a bit mixed on it. 3. I really like the actor playing Ackerson. His character is very interesting and I'm so excited to see where he goes moving forward. 4. I really feel that Kwan needs to be killed off or something. At this point, I don't what the writers would do with her character and what story she would get going forward. Other than possibly helping to find Soren. Either way, she needs to go. Like you said, I have nothing against the actress, I just don't find her character that interesting anymore. 5. Makee showing up at the end really surprised me and I'm curious what's going to happen with her later. Overall, season 2 so far started off very well imo and I'm so excited for the rest of the season and more.

It would be FIRE if we got a shot of noble team doing their own thing even for a split nano frame in the background (I’m a reach kid and I always will be)

If we do, it won't happen till the attack on Reach happens, but I think it would be epic if we see them somewhere in a background shot. Halo Reach and its story is my #1 favorite out of all the Halo games.

I agree that the first episode was better than all of season 1. I also agree with all your negatives, though I still don't fancy that chief and 'Cortana' scene. it was awkward. I alsoa greew ith your scores so it's sitting at a 7.5 so far for me. which means it's good! It will never be a 9 or 10 to be honest just because It's not the Halo I love. Iif the season ends with a personal 8 out of 10, I'd be more than happy. Not big on the new Cortana design... Though it does look less cartoony, I'm not sure why they decided not to make her look similar to Halsey as she does in the games. this would also make it more clear to the viewer that she was made from a clone.

I genuinely enjoyed both episodes besides the Kwan part like you said. The only thing that irked me was right away they said Vannak removed his pellet also. He was the badass spartan of the group it sucks he has emotions now also lol but he was still good

Either the outcome of the spartan 3 program or the faith of reach, kinda like infinity war/ endgame where there's so many outcomes that can happen and Cortina is compiling the simulations to see if there's a positive one in the end, well definitely see the 3s role out as well as reach see its end

The first few minutes were pretty good. But the rest of episode 1 and going into episode 2 was boring with nothing going until the end of episode 2. Plus military tactics were lacking. Y’all have a bless one.

Also I love silver team due to their armor honestly, it looks so good and I’m so invested into them. I get your point with makie don’t know her name but how do you not know she was hallucinating her after game beat up by the elites because remember a lot of movies did that that someone saw before they died or they haven’t seen a very long time they happened in halo five with chief sing the chip and also shadow, we figure of Cortana and Kylo Ren had the exact same thing as well with seeing his father Han Solo in the rise of Skywalker when he was hurt after being healed by Ray that happened to him he saw Han Solo again, even though he knew he died. That was last time he saw him in that solo return hand star killer from the fortunately one and two prominently from the force unleashed 2 had the exact same thing kind of with saying memories of the original star killer when the clone saw memories are the one that died and Dabba it happened to him when he was saying Juno the person he loved, was in danger avatar the last Airbender, and the legend of Cora did this as well with Tenzin, seeing his father Ang again when he was trying to find his daughter in season two saying how he’s the son of the avatar and he had to bring back the nomad like that until like the figure of Ang told him that don’t try to be me be you and that’s what happened in season two of the last Airbender it happened with Ang sing tough in her elegant suit in the forest before they even met when the forest told him I was showing him a vision that this is the person that he was going to meet later down the line which happened so the storyline with the woman you’re talking about the halo show already ended so you gotta think of that standpoint of him seeing her but what do I know you might be more informed in a lot of media that’s not halo but you’re more in formed with halo, and I’m informed with more TV shows and movies that I actually watched that do that type of stuff that you’re hating right nowso I’m not trying to be on you on this, but I’m just telling you straight out. It’s just a vision that he saw or an aspiration in his mind playing tricks on him seeing the person again that’s all I’m trying to say.

Liked the changes so far. Sucks they pretty much copied blade runner 2049’s visuals and “you’re a good Joe” moment with Master chief and Cortana booth, also, kinda worried they are skipping 22 years of war and focusing on the last 3 months of it all.

I'm surprised how good of a reception s2 is getting. Everything else is pretty good, but the writing is shockingly poor and no better than s1 imo

I get the Kwuan hate but I think they're going to use her plot thread to introduce the flood and some more lore. Maki being around is kind of needed because the Covenant needs a human that can interact with the artifact. In this version not just any human can do it, so she's pretty important to them.

We could have gotten so much more out of such a legendary story It’s like someone used cgi to impose the master chief onto a boring generic show We could have gotten a band of brothers type show following the crew of a UNSC ship through the early years of the war bringing less well known or even new Spartans into the fold Halo’s story to me has always been pretty grim it is basically a war story that’s why people like the chief have the impact they do and if you really need him do what forward unto dawn did bring him in sparingly and give him the justice he deserves By bringing in new characters or ones without much story you are much more free to take different narrative paths which otherwise would be too risky with pre existing characters say a Spartan on this ship develops a relationship with a marine providing it’s not the primary focus of the show I don’t see why it couldn’t work (people can love without us having to watch them do all manner of exciting things involving removing all of their clothes) just my thoughts though

It was much better but god damn the end of episode 1 and all of episode 2 was way to much talking. The first 3/4 of episode 1 was pretty solid tho

Also opinions on feelings about stuff/what I want to see. Rubble? I want to just hear Peter Bonifacio’s name. I’d appreciate a resolution to the Ha family and the monitor. I honestly do NOT care if Chief is unhelmeted/suited, but it should make sense. The way they had him keep his helmet on but Kai takes her’s off in the first mission made sense. Chief just got very disturbed but not Kai. When Chief in non-game media is with Blue Team and he’s the only one in his helmet and they’re all unhelmeted, it’s weird. First time he sees all of them since the events of First Strike, none of them are in their helmets but he is. Blue Team is his family but for whatever reason he just decides to not take it off, even with those he’s most comfortable with.

God it’s so nice to watch a review of this that isn’t “I hated season 1 so I’ll just act like everything in season 2 is terrible without stating why”

I feel like FootedGhost is watching the show through rose colored glasses. These two episodes are better than Season 1 but only because Season 1 was so incredibly bad.

I don't think folks are aware that season 1 omitting the original Halo music, was not by choice!! Paramount was locked in a legal battlle over rights to the music, which was settled recently and of course now able to be incorporated into the show! Season one's composer was really in a tough spot and doesn't deserve all the hate IMHO, when one has all the facts and understands the parameters in which they had to work, they get my sympathy! Bear is a bit overrated if you ask me, some of his work is just eh...

I think its well written and better than S1. My problem is this still doesn't feel like halo. Chief acts like an emotional bimbo rather than chief. Also lets be real, Kwan is bleh.

This is the first video in the Halo community that actually is giving this show a fair shot, and I'm happy you shared your take on it. Watching other popular Halo youtubers COMPLETELY miss the point in serval scenes (the Spartan banter, the Chief AI stripclub scene, etc) that you nail is honestly so disappointing.

It's sad that so called fans of Halo are so critical of the show. It took decades to get a big budget show. How fast do you think someone else will pony up a quarter of a billion dollars for a show if this one does not succeed.? It's OK to be critical but to be so childish because everything is not like the game is foolish. Kwan currently is a complete waste of time. Outside of that I can enjoy the show. I hated costanza's big mouth parents hollering every line, but I still liked seinfeld. No show is perfect. I like that Riz is still hurting from her fight from last season. I would like an explanation for why cortana looks different. Where is Hallsies daughter. Give her kwans lines. The writing is better. They learned from last season to spread the special effects budget out more evenly. The Covenant have advanced technology. I have no problem with Maykey being alive. She let Chief live when he was badly outnumbered. That is why she is back. Master cheeks is going to hit the smash button again. Makey is going to turn on the covenant.

With world building that is beyond ripe for storytelling in any medium or genre. The fact that they devolved it into something that is this bad truly makes me angry at what we missed out on. The least I can do as a fan is not contribute to the watch hours for this travesty.

Did you watch it? Season 1 was complete ass, but S2 is much much better.

I mean if you can enjoy it that's cool but this show is objectively bad still

I don't like it, but objectively it has pretty strong reviews 93% RT critics and 81% Audience.

I think season 1 was objectively bad 100%, I don't think you can say the same about S2, with that said it's still early days, so we'll see.

I'm liking it so far
