We all have been amazed at that fact but you stated it so succinctly. Well done! As to Angelina experiencing a “lost” childhood… you’d be surprised to find out that that is definitely not the case. The fact that you have only recently heard of Angelina… after TEN years of her performing, speaks to the sheltered, normal life she has lived. And that is by design. After winning Norway’s Got Talent, her parents (particularly her mother Sara) vowed that Angelina would have as normal a childhood as possible. Angelina in this retrospective speaks of the family being a “shield”, and as a matter of fact, one of Angelina’s earliest original songs is titled “Shield.” Its lyrics are about her family, and particularly her Mom being her shield. In addition, the song “Shield” speaks of “…angels watching over me.” This is the source of her die-hard fans calling themselves “angels” and this reference has recently been acknowledged by Angelina during her performances. BTW… “Shield” would be a great performance to react to. It sounds very “James Bond” like. Anyways, great reaction and analysis. Zack, thanks for your reaction to this video, celebrating Angelina's first 10 years as a performer. I attended both of her concerts in the USA. The concert in Vegas had a family feel to it. Angelina's mom, Sara, grandmother Mery and little sister Juliette were all interacting with the angels. Angelina's Uncle Michael is also her manager and he was there with his wife and two young daughters, Athena and Aries. The gathering of angels and meeting so many of them added to the feeling of family. We know Sara filed to divorce Gerry Slattman last year. Both Angelina and her sister thanked their mom on social media recently for being a father figure in their life. We also know Sara has written a very long book about Angelina's journey and we wait patiently to learn so much more from her book.

Her father, Gerry Slattman, is an engineer/executive with Statoil, the Norwegian national oil company. They changed their name a few years ago and I can’t remember to what. You could see him briefly in a couple of the earlier NGT videos if you look close enough. He made the choice to remain in the background early on. Some of AJ’s travels to the middle east and US were with him as a family. It’s speculated that her experience with the orphan girl occurred during an extended stay in Iran with her father, as her mother was there teaching at the Japanese school. He is , I’m fairly sure, reasonably well to do, which allowed her a comfortable, protected childhood. Her mother Sara was adamant from her first audition on, that protecting AJ and giving her a normal childhood was of utmost importance. Which I’m certain she would have done regardless of her economic circumstances. As some others have mentioned, it was reported they divorced last year.

@@EA-yd9vw Thank you. You are correct. Equinor is the name I couldn’t bring to mind. For a time Gerry Slattman was listed on Linked In as being out of their Albuquerque offices. There is a video of Angelina in a Walmart that some have claimed was in an Albuquerque Walmart. She looks to be around 4 or5. Which would make sense as 2010 is about the time Slattman was listed as being in Albuquerque.

You asked about her dad. He is a Swedish man by the name of Gerry Slatmann and he appears very briefly on an early video. The word is he wants to keep out of the limelight for his own reasons, so we all respect that. Angelina normally travels with her Grandma Meri Zamani, her Uncle Michael who is also her manager, and of course her sister Juliette about whom she sings in her song What Is Life? and who is the young girl seen in this video. Angelina is set to conquer the world, but the world is a tough place and I fear she has had an easy ride so far, but she is strong and will overcome what the world wants to throw at her. I wish I was young enough to see how her life unfolds (I'm 75). There will be "Angelina's Story" movies for sure in years to come.

Two things, Zack. One, about her father: I read quite awhile ago that he works for the Swedish government (he’s Swedish), and probably because of his work has to be careful about being filmed, etc. She still has the father influence while working from her manager Uncle Mike (Sara’s brother, I believe). Secondly, I just finished watching some of the compilation of Angelina’s Las Vegas concert released by James Thiel and others, and I am simply blown away at what they’ve done via piecing together shots from many sources and alll the magic they do technically. The result, to me, is just like being there. The videography is excellent, the audio amazing, considering that cameras were not allowed in the venue! When you finally get to Angelina at this age, don’t forget to watch this!

Awesome that you mentioned letting kids be kids…Angelina’s family was firm and focused on ensuring Angelina remained a kid and experienced childhood in a normal way (as normal as could be). She performed at an early age for charity events but didn’t perform commercially. Thanks man.

I can not imagine signing that wall at 18. Wow. It struck me how many times I heard the words honored, humble, and grateful in this video. This, and she still comes from a place of great confidence and vision which she wrote about esp. in the last 2 songs of her EP. Her family did a great job of managing things and keeping her well-being primary. Also I have never seen so many people that have never even met someone be so adamantly protective of them. I would never want to speculate about her dad... But I never heard Angelina mention her dad or write anything about him on any of her social media. The last time I heard her mentioned her dad was way back on Norway's Got Talent on the pre-audition interview that you already watched. "Shield" is one of her very first original songs... And if you're not aware...you just listened to 3 of her most recent original songs in the video...at least part of them.😉

This concert was at very short notice as Angelina snapped up a venue cancellation, excited because its the same place as Elvis had a residency. Yet her fans flew from all over the world. So both concerts on the same day sold out. It's the maternal family around her. Uncle Michael is her manager. At some point there was some disagreement. We do know that the initial contract signed by her parents at 14 with Republic Records was she could not be pushed out till she finished school. The presumption that would be 18. However she completed school a year early. So she was 17 when she was making her EP OLD enough. That in itself is a possible bone of contention. Its around about the commencement of that, that the parental split was announced. We can only conjecture. Also Angelina has made it clear she feels shielded by her family around her. She wrote and performed SHIELD at 12 the lyrics are about this. There is also a revealing interview that's worth watching as well as the performance.

She was actually 16 on the songs on the EP. The EP released on July 21st last year, but had been ready for a long time at that time 🙂

Dad had been out of the picture for many years. They divorsed about a year ago.

As you work your way through her work you will note original songs that tell you about her feelings for fans and family. Mom Sarah who made this video, Grandma Mery who inspires her, Sister Juliette with whom she has a special bond and Uncle Michael who watches over her professional career. Original songs that reflect this are Shield (a word you used) and Fire and Rain (you heard it on this video).

Her very supportive family let her experience het childhood snd have fun. They refused to let her sign with Disney and others while letting her puusue her singing career. Her father has 4:35 always been inthe background . Great reaction

As you watch her story from Norway's and America's got talent shows you will see she does not have wild screaming reactions to winning or getting golden buzzers, she has always even at 7 years old had a very calm head on her shoulders, able to respond to questions put to her really maturely. Her family have protected her from exposure to the music industry ensuring she finished school before allowing her to much exposure hence the title of her new LP OLD ENOUGH

You've got about 200 different videos of her singing on KZread and TicToc, she put her 10thousand hours in.

As far as I know her father Gerry Christian Slattman is an Asset Manager at Statoil Iran and has worked as a General Field Engineer at Schlumberger. He holds a Master's degree in Indøk from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) - from a Google search. Mom, Grandma & Uncle Michael have been her guides during her musical journey. Mom her protector, Grandma her creative inspiration and Uncle Michael her manager. One of AJ originals at the age of 10? entitled "Shield" is dedicated to her mom and her fans who are her angels always protecting her on her journey.

In her original song, Shield, (written at 12 years old, or maybe 11) Angelina thanks her family for protecting her and watching over her. There is a line repeated several times in the lyrics that is amazing to me. Angelina sings: “Forgive me for all that I am.” Even as a young child, she realized the burden her choice has put on her family. Her self-reflection is evident throughout her childhood, as is her humility and her empathy for those in need.

I attended both shows in Vegas. It was truly magnificent.

We are so blessed to be able to listen to her, I've seen it several times now and I still cry every time, her speaking voice alone is like a warm ray of sunshine that slides over your body. A guitarist from the Las Vegas band said she sings incredibly well and when she walks into a room you feel her presence before you see her I can't describe to you how much I love this girl as a person and what she represents (Google translate)

AJ's father, Gerry Christian Slattman, is a Swedish engineer born in 1972. He is twelve years older than his wife, Sara Astar, born in 1984. He can be seen in a video from 2014, when Angelina won the Norske Talenter, the Norwegian adaptation of Got Talent, a format of British origin. Juliette, Angelina's younger sister born in 2012, announced on Tik Tok in 2023 that her parents were divorcing.

Building on what you were saying at the end: every time I watch any kind of biography of a singer and/or musician (e.g., _American Masters_ or whatever), I notice that if they even mention anything at all about them performing before they became an adult, it's usually just a few sentences, or a few minutes at the most, and then it's on to their "real" career after they're out of school. What Angelina was able to accomplish before turning 18 could fill up an entire feature-length documentary. She literally has had an entire career already. Now she's starting her second career.😁 (BTW, she was already 18 when she did the Vegas concerts.)

When the next James Bond film is to be made, who do you think is in the spotlight for a possible theme song? The list of what Angelina has already been involved in is already so extensive that only a deep dive into her performances has to be searched online by yourself. It is too extreme to almost believe at the age of just turned 18!!!! All important people in the music industry know who she is and what she is good at on big occasions. I don't think anyone has the guts to suggest to her a fast track that doesn't suit her. Her integrity is too strong for that!

I was fortunate enough to have followed her from a very early age, so i was able to watch her in progression as each new song came out. You still have at least a 100+ videos to watch if you really want to go in procession. I prefer her 11-13 years myself but you can see her talent progressing each year up to this Vegas video when she was 18. Born Jan 10th 2006. Great reaction!!

Have really enjoyed your reactions, especially on AJ's art. She is obviously a very special young lady with such a musical history and so much promise. Yes, even being grounded as best as her family can promote that, it's a little scary. I'm afraid she will become too Americanized, too musical industry influenced. We loved her with her Norwegian roots and flavor. Her uniqueness. It's just a complex phase of life for anyone. For her Shield to keep her grounded, they will also have to stay grounded and that can difficult with wealth and influence. We all wish her the best as we watch her grow and develop.

Funny how a teenager that is already around 6 feet tall STILL puts on 2-inch heels AND goes for "tall" hairdos. Most girls of her stature would try the opposite - but not Angelina.
