Best all round cyclist in the world - easily. Eddy Merckx was before my time but watching this video and having raced and followed professional cycling for nearly 30 years I still shake my head. He gave hints in 2020 TdF. Then he repeats in 2021 TdF and did a huge ride in the worlds. And he comes from Cyclocross? Fans still under estimate what he is doing, but some you can never convince. Keep winning Wout!

He's just the best cyclist of the world right now, nothing to add.

@@nathansneessens1090 wva won 3 stages but mvdp had yellow for a few days. Obviously wva is a more complete rider now but mvdp is coming

@@yorbino5553 OK, but I think in terms of long ascents (typically high mountains: climbs that are cat. 2, 1 or HC as it is categorized in the Tour de France for instance) we see that Wout is clearly better than MVDP. Wout is just flying if he has a personal or team ambition on this kind of field :) I'm not speaking of "short" hills (in classics such as flanders, ardennes, primaveras etc) where I think there are quite equally good

@@dreamchaserfr4706 I've yet to see MVDP win a big long climb indeed, but I think he is as good as wout on it because MVDP also does cross (like wout) and mountainbike. But indeed maybe wout is better on the climb

Probleem is dat je elke dag moet mee zijn, ook op de allerzwaarste ritten/beklimmingen. Wout kan zich nu regelmatig laten uitzakken om krachten te sparen voor die paar ritten dat hij dan kan uitpakken. Ik denk persoonlijk niet dat hij in staat is een grote ronde te winnen, maar bij kleinere rondes (Tirreno, Paris-Nice, Dauphiné, ...) maakt hij wel een kans. Top 10 (en misschien met geluk top 5) kan er wel inzitten in een grote ronde.

@@MDP1702 Dat is helemaal juist. Een goed klassement rijden is een hele andere discipline dan af en toe een bergetappe beestenwerk te leveren. Van Aert is wel een bijzondere renner, de beste van de wereld. Ik denk dat hij in staat is om in ieder geval mee te doen voor het podium als hij er vol voor gaat. Maarja, wil hij dat zelf wel?
