In this episode, I visit my friend from Hong Kong Nam who has recently moved to Sheffiled UK just for CLIMBING!
We talk about why she decided to do that, the challenges she’s faced so far and the special something that makes living abroad alone a lot easier.

I actually moved to a new country for climbing a month ago! Having climbed for over 10 years in the Netherlands, where there are no rocks at all, I now moved to Switzerland - and it's great. I can now go climbing outside on the weekends, on days off, even during the evenings after work!

Hey man, I live in Switzerland too but am very new to outdoor bouldering. Do you have any recommendations for crags that you've been to/ enjoyed :) (I live in Wallis btw)?

I don't know if I would move somewhere specifically for climbing, but it's definitely something that factors into my decision to move somewhere. If there are no climbing gyms, or I don't like the facilities then it's a no. And for my current city, I definitely picked the area based on the fact that I can walk to a nice climbing gym in 10min :) Anyway, love this style of video, climbing interspersed with interviewish questions, it's a nice format !

That sounds like a perfect set up!!! Really glad you are enjoying these kinda videos cause I love making them!!!
Sheffield is an ideal base for trad, bouldering and soloing on the grit, and sporty stuff plus bouldering on the limestone. Great city with lots of climbing history.

As a father of 3, it’s hard to commit to a move like that, but I was able to reduce my working hours to focus a bit more on climbing and training.
Hey bro, I’m going to be in Japan for a couple weeks in summer if you’d be down to climb! Also based in London so hmu!
I don't think moving for climbing is the jam, but traveling for climbing for sure. Everywhere I go I take my shoes with me, even right now I am watching this video from such a trip.

@@Jonathan_sin88 yeah i see that (great videos btw, I really love your energy), I guess it depends on what your goals are. I rather want to focus on outdoor trips, so moving every time I finish a crag would be kinda expensive. For someone who wants to become a comp climber like you or many other I totally see it tho. Good Luck with everything that you do!

Ive never climbed in HK, but started climbing in Australia. Can imagine the space constraints you’ll face climbing in hong kong 🇭🇰 how usually do they change the walls there?
@s19wong

Depends on the gym - some change section by section every week or so, there's one that resets the whole (smaller) gym every ~2 weeks. The high concentration of gyms around the city means that there will definitely be some new set somewhere
I would like to, but at almost 33 with a career and a house, I just can't see how I could do it now without setting myself back a decade financially :(
