When I was a kid in the late 60's we lived about a mile away from Paine Field air port in Everett Wash. Our house had a flight path for planes right over our house. We'd see 737, 747, private planes go by all day.
The fact we went from the Wright brothers flying death trap to a monster like this in only 100 years is still incredible to me.

In reality, you become so accustomed to the noise of low-flying, arriving aircraft that in short time you begin not to notice them much at all, if ever. I once lived near an airbase when I was a young child and can remember thinking I'd never get used to it. But I did. I don't recall it taking too long. Even today, the town I live in has countless trains passing through daily. I rarely hear them after years of being here.

No. my life could be decided by the pilot's mood or knowledge...😂
LOL. Bath Road LHR? When I started as a young pilot flying long haul, I often stayed overnight in a pilot colleague's house there. He had converted it and rented out rooms to us who had a long way home after a longhaul, or who came to LHR the evening before a trip because we lived too far away to make our duty time. He was very generous and kept a bunch of keys in his drawer at the Compass Centre. I put our names down on a list, took the key and stayed there. He provided for toast, tea etc. and a cleaning lady. It was a question on honour that we kept the place as nice as it were our own.

I had an attic in Osterley which is 20 mins from Heathrow by car, and every 45 seconds the plane would fly directly over our house on its runway approach. They weren't that close, but not far off. But the best part was when the Concorde would fly over back in the 80's. 3 of them, one every 30 seconds twice a day. Before we had double glazed windows (which hardly helped) the vibrations literally shook a picture off the wall, and the liquid in your glass would ripple. Whilst watching the telly, you learned to lip read. Personally I loved it.

I used to live in Castle Donnington near east Midlands airport planes would come over at all hours you get used to the noise, the worst planes were the cargo ones but again you get used to it.
I've been there, when I just got married with my ex husbabd, he could only afford a tiny rent house very close to a busy airport in his city, Yogyakarta (the airport is no longer exist today, it was moved far away from the city a few years ago). Planes will fly by approximately every 10 minutes. At first I was deeply disturbed (I have Aspergers and I do not like loud sounds), but I managed to adapt because I loved him so much The rent was 2 floor high with a small balcony/laundry area on the roof. Sometimes we sat there for hours, eating snacks and drinks while watching the sunset and the planes, talking about the details we could see on the bottom of the big ones (I even asked my father to send his binoculars, LoL). Sometimes we played the "guess the airline" game while listening to crickets and frogs singing (in front of the house was a small rice field) in between the roaring engines. It's actually, weirdly, quite a romantic memory of our youth now, LoL.

@@marcelovicente3883 I had to google translate your comment because I'm curious, hehe. Thank you for noticing. 😊🙏 I do still love the guy even though I was the one who divorced him in 2016 (because he cheated with my (also ex) bestfriend). We're still good friends now although we're living 1,500 km apart (he went back to that city after we got separated). I still help him everytime he ask for help, I don't think it's wrong for me to care even though we won't grow old together anymore. He's part of some of the most beautiful (and bittersweet) memories of my younger life from our 12 years long journey together. ❤ Yes, I'm a silly hopeless romantic oldie. 🤭
I've been to a friend's house a few times which situated within a flight path and she says she's already used to the noise and now she can sleep soundly with or without the sound of aeroplane passing above her house.

I thought 23.30 is when flights cease operating into Heathrow until about 6am. Wouldn't it be a bit quieter anyway?
I once went to Peshawar City. Our stay was close to a military base. Every couple of hours there used to fly Jet Fighters. On the first day when the jet fighters showed up they were so loud that we ran out to see wondering if a war had started. Then later on we realised it's just their daily practice. Then after some days we wouldn't even bother if they are coming or going.
I would have that house completely full of insulation. The attic would be stuffed from bottom to top. My wife’s grandmother lives 20 feet away from the train tracks. Right before an intersection. The train horns are so loud. I don’t know how she ever sleeps. She’s been there for decades. She said it doesn’t bother her anymore and she sleeps just fine.

It only got noticeable when friends/relatives commented when visiting.
