There are KS2 exclusives games for the Next you have in the KS2Extras folder on the SD card. I would also suggest you make a backup for the SD card before doing any changes as KS2Extras stuff with the exception of Night Knight will only work on the KS2 machines as they were stretch goals. The FB and discord community as always is your friend for learning. Great video as always!

Awesome information. Thanks so much for that and I've pinned this comment. I'll be sure to check out the Extras folder and backup my SD card ASAP!

@@retroCombs .. The PDF link to the manual in chat is for the KS1 original manual in PDF. The KS2 PDF manual will be released hopefully soon from the same site and as last mentioned in the FB group the team are looking to offer printed versions of the manual to KS1/N-Go/ZXDOS/ZXGomaDOS/xBerry-Pi etc users to acquire in A4 and A5.

@@simber71 I was reading the PDF version last night and wondered. I was going to compare it to the printed version. I'll drop into the Fb group. Think they'd mind if I posed a link to the video and asked for feedback and suggestions?

Hi, fantastic video. It is so nice seeing this from the perspective of someone who never has a spectrum A few things I would like to say, not sure if you already figured out: - You have the acceletared version, the pi board is installed internally. There is an easy way to check: try to load a .tzx file as those only work with acceletared next - Other cores: the ks1 nexts have other cores you can use, currently for ks2 the cores are disabled since they use a different chip, but the dev team will enable this in the future - 1:37:57 - for most of the original (48k, 128k) games you may want to put clock to the lowest setting

First, thanks for the kind comments and second, I really appreciate the additional info. Not sure there's a Raspberry Pi inside though because the ports on the case are covered. I need to open it up.

Saw you were opening the Next so dropped in. I actually live about 10 miles from the Timex Factory in Dundee, Scotland where the Spectrums were assembled, I think they have demolished the factory now or at least there was talk about demolishing it a few years back. I had a 16k and my friend had the 48k so we opened his and got the chip numbers and ordered them from RS components and put them in mine for less than the price difference of the originals. My brother also recently went into the loft of my family home back in Wales and asked if I wanted the computers that were there, these include a Spectrum 128k +2 with a tape drive attached, an Oric Atmos, a Mac 128k with three keyboards? and a Power Mac with a 17inch CRT, along with a Sinclair TV80 the little B&W handheld one and I remember discovering that if I stood outside the local Arcade I could watch my mates playing on the likes of Defender and Missile Command etc. on it.

Enjoyed this vid :-) I actually started off a little worried if the MEGA65 might look the lesser, after hearing speccy folks toot their horns on this system, but relieved that MEGA65 folks don't need to fret, speccy folks got a good system with a lot of community energy and we mega65 folks do too :-) Each system has their points of strength and areas worthy of more polish, and I'm sure each community does the best they can with the time they have :-)

I've just seen this and subscribed immediately. 😊Maybe a useful info: for the best video quality/compatibility try to use the analog RGB output in the first place (in 50Hz if possible). Can be relevant when using HW tricks in 48K/128K compatibility mode that push the limits of the old hardware (such as breaking the 2 colors per cell limits, using more than 15 colors, drawing on the border area, etc.). Modern demo scenes for the old machines use these a lot.

Target Renegade is pretty good on the speccy. As is stuff like 3d starstrike (on the next you can speed it up and it is even better), some great games on the speccy if you know where to look.

I think that's the best packaged computer I've ever seen this this was a worthwhile unboxing video for sure. That manual looks fantastic! I can't imagine there's much it doesn't tell you. All that goes some way to justifying its high price tag. You must be one of a handful of people to own both the MEGA65 and the Next. Do you also own a Commander X16 and a Uzebox for a full house? We have a nice range of modern retro 8 bit platforms to choose from now, but I'd say the safest bets are the Uzebox, the Next and the X-16. Why? Because all three platforms have clones which means they're more likely to be available in some form in 10+ years time.

@@retroCombs This does seem to be the golden age of modern retro computers yes. The Uzebox has become my fave 8 bit platform, despite me also being an ex C64 owner. I love the simplicity and openness of the Uzebox. I've built four Uzeboxes so far. Its not only the easiest and cheapest to build of the modern retro platforms, its also the fastest 8 bit console and has the best selection of games.
