Worth more than a Country House! Antique Desk owned by Queen Marie Antoinette
Ойын-сауық
This desk was given by Marie Antoinette as a gift to the second Earl of Mansfield. Here is an astonishing rare piece of antique furniture. Made around 1770 and commissioned by Marie Antoinette along with another two identical desks.
The piece has resided at Scone Palace in Scotland ever since it was gifted in the late 18th century

Forget the price, forget who owned it. Just look at the amount of skill that went into making it. No power tools, just craftsmanship. The man that made this was an amazing human being. This is the equivalent of the Sistine Chapel ceiling. Beautiful stunning amazing. 👍👍👍
Dear David and Earl and museum person, WOW! Way to go letting us get a peek at that desk! You rock!
Absolutely beautiful!
First time here. I'm a long-time fan of David from the Bargain Hunt UK show, and still is. Always offered himself out there in an outstanding and professional way. Two thumbs up to you David Harper! Great channel! And keep up the good works!
Wow, ornate and exquisite. Mahalo.
Hello from Perth, Australia. Thanks, David, for showing this beautiful piece. Such stunning detail.

Hello Perth!
That's one serious item. I like Marie Antoinette, anything owned by her is worth serious money, one of her pearl pendants sold for about £28,000,000 at auction 😂 I collect Marie Antoinette items but anything she owned is definitely out of my price range 😂 So far I own a London Chronicle from 1793 talking about her upcoming trial, a Marie Antoinette tie clip, a Marie Antoinette necklace, a Marie Antoinette book, an antique postcard of her Boudoir at Fontainebleau, an antique trinket box with a picture of her on, a framed antique silk miniature portrait print of her, a framed portrait miniature painting of her which one of Wolverhampton's best artists painted for me, two antique silk miniature portrait prints of her friend Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun who painted all her most famous portraits (one is framed, one is unframed), I've also got a book called 'The Memoirs of Elisabeth Vigee Le Brun' which is an interesting autobiography.

Wow, quite a collection…you’ll need to plan a trip to Perth to see this piece. Just being a couple of feet away from it is very special

@@DavidHarperAntiquesTV I'd love to, maybe one day. I'd like you to do a video about antique photo book lockets if you know anything about them, they mainly have photos of the royal family or towns and cities in them, I've got a few and think they're interesting but don't really know much about them
My dad was a joiner and he taught me a lot. He made me grow an appreciation of craftsmanship and artistry of working wood and building things. With him being a minister at a church in the UK, he would get hardwood from a few old churches, before they were knocked down. This was back in the 80s. That is a wonderful piece of craftmanship and art.
It's an interesting piece 👍
A fabulous piece with an eye watering provenance. 👍. I’ve been at Scone Palace many moons ago at a Game Fair, a beautiful area Perthshire, if you have an opportunity drive up to the Crieff area, a stunning landscape, with its low fertile valley & its rising hills. Beautiful
Wow, what a piece!
anything of hers, the sky's the limit! She had some nice stuff, did our girl, and the stories attached send the prices sky high.
Unbelievable workmanship
That is just breathtaking! The craftsmanship, the history on and on. Your imagination can run wild just thinking about if that piece could speak the stories it could tell! I'm so glad its in a museum, and not in a private collection because everyone gets to enjoy it this way. Thank you for your incredible video!

Dear David - love the show - hope to meet you soon Helena
I am very surprised that he pulled out the drawers without wearing gloves, anytime I’ve seen dealers handling high end antiques they are wearing them. Beautiful work done on this piece
Beautiful!
A country house goes for very little around here...
Best I can't buy it or it would have watermarks from glasses very quickly.
Was waiting to see the valuation on the desk. Still don't have an idea of the price. I don't know what a country house in Scotland costs. LOL.

Between you and me, it’s worth a few million!
I’m sure it came as no surprise to the people in Perth Australia that Perth Scotland is the original. Pretty obvious since UK history dates back many thousands of years compared to just a few hundred in Australia.

We Americans do far worse damage to the French language on a daily basis. "Saint Lewis" and "Versales" are the first examples that come to mind.

@@roberthudson1959 Yeah, and having lived in the UK for five years I got grief for that and more all the time. But this is giving an entirely different name, not just a pronunciation difference.

Who’s the maker? The only thing that counts

The maker will be naturally the very best, but it’s the connection to Marie Antoinette that adds the real value…like Napoleons hat that sold recently for £1.7 million! See my short vid on that one!
