I think rooms of 2nd gen iits( like jodhpur , Bhubneshwar) are way better than old iits. I am a fresher at IIT BHUBANESWAR and my room (with single occupancy) is better than all of my friends at other iits. I think u should also review that :)

Even our hostel rooms at BIT Mesra are of the same size and literally two people are living in such rooms, but as you said you need good friends around you which keep you away from just thinking how pathetic the rooms are!
