Picked up an '05 SSR a couple of years ago. Solved the issues which were minor, by following SSR Fanatics. This things gets thumbs up and head turning from young and old. It's now a great cruiser ( but not a bruiser).

I think the biggest problem with it is that it was an actual body-on-frame Truck. They should’ve made it a unibody Roadster Utility car (Ute) and called it the “El Camino Spyder” or something like that.

Calling this the worse Chevy truck ever made is a stretch. The SSR is misunderstood and actually unique, but I definitely would like one some day.

It's too bad, it seems Americans only like full size pickups, Ford came out with a shark-nosed pickup in the 90s it didn't get much notoriety either, wish you could do a video on it.

I have a 2004 Chevrolet SSR. I bought it 15 years ago for $17,000.00 & 79,000 miles. The problem I first noticed was Speedometer cluster not working right, overheating in traffic & ABS failure. It seemed that many Chevrolet Service departments did not know anything about the SSR. I got pulled over by Police for speeding a couple times. I was told to get speedometer fixed & show the Police officer that it was repaired or my SSR would be impounded for equipment failure. 3 tries to have speedometer by Speedo in Flint Mi. $250 plus tax. Overheating is a problem with the engine being higher than the radiator, lack of air flow & the cooling fans did not come on soon enough to keep engine cool. I replaced, Water pump, Radiator & cooling fan. A complete cooling system flush. A White milky substance came out of cooling system. No help. I bought a Tuner to change performance & other related engine electronics that gave much more power & cooling fan came on much sooner. No over heating. Now. My SSR has 180,000 miles. The front end parts were completely replaced due to worn out rack & pinion & ball joints. It steers much better. The ABS is a Chevrolet problem. First is the ABS is one inch away from the Catalytic converter. The heat melts the solder on circuit board. I have replace it 3 times. The transmission shift selector has the same problem of heat melting the linkage. I replaced once. Transmission has been rebuilt twice. Once for over 100,000 miles rebuild & a broken converter clutch at 150,000 Right now the engine has had problems with ECM PCM bad sensors. I have replaced the oil psi sender 3 times. First time was for low oil pressure. I replaced it & oil psi was good as it should be at 29 psi to a high of 45 psi at highway speeds. Failed again & the new GM replacement part failed. Saw over 90 psi on gauge & diagnostic tool. Replaced again. Working as it should. I have spoke to many Chevrolet SSR & Trailblazer owners & on You tube. The problems I have had are typical for a high milage Chevy truck. But. I have also talked to same people that are having problems at under 30,000 miles. The convertible top has not given me any problems to speak of. In general I love the SSR. It suits me just fine after many years of hauling 6 kids around in Chevy Suburban's. It is a big change for a 3 ton Suburban to a 2 ton light pickup truck. She is always center of attention. Some people do not like the SSR. They have taken a object to beat on the body, dumped a Big Gulp onto the interior & a tire store purposely damaged the ECM by killing battery during a front end alignment. I have over $1000 in repair parts to fix the damage.

😮 it’s suited to be a 3rd vehicle at best. Half of the “issues” are the fault of the customer ignoring obvious red flags 🚩
