The biggest downside to the ranger is the design, it looks lame. But yeah loud turbos are a plus😂

I hope you can do this when the new versions of Chevrolet Colorado comes out, new version of GMC Canyon, new version of Toyota Tacoma and the new version of the Ford Ranger Raptor, but fully tested in real world 😀. Top trim, mid trim and bottom trim of each mid-size.

While Toyota may still be using cheap interior and an under powered 6 cylinder, it does have a good track record. Im still a bit skeptical whether a 4 cylinder w/a turbo is a "reliable" option for heavy towing over years of use. As far as price goes, I don't see enough truck on any of these models to justify spending $50K +. Great review. Thank you!

I had a choice between a slightly used (6K mile) 23 TRD Off Road, Premium and Technology pkgs, double cab , 6’ bed or an identical 24 Turbo. Ultimately I chose the 23 because of the proven reliability and durability of the 3.5L Naturally Aspirated (NA) V6. Historically a Turbo engine simply doesn’t last as long as a NA engine. The Turbo only gets 1mpg better fuel economy, but after you have to replace the turbo or the engine, it’s cheaper to buy the NA 3.5L V6.

the midsize segment is getting shaken up this coming year. new gm twins, new ranger and new Tacoma. I plan to hold out till we see all three and can compare.

I just traded my 2020 Ram 1500 for Honda Ridgeline. I loved the Ram Laramie V8 but for me the Ridgeline is better daily, AWD seems to work better in snow vs the Ram 4Wd, I am really liking it so far and it fits in garage

The Honda Ridgeline is awesome does what 90 people need a truck to do and comfortable as heck reliable... Doesn't feel cheap It doesn't drive rough it's awesome

i really want a ridgeline, its perfect for what i do, but i see a lot of them with transmission problem (and early in its mileage life).. im second guessing on a ranger

Think about this: Very few people (close to no one) buys a Ridgeline to go off-roading. Therefore, very few people have much of a clue as to how the Ridgeline behaves off road. I lifted my Ridgeline 2.5in. and put on some Nitto Ridge Grapplers on. I'm not a brand fan boy. I genuinely appreciate all of these trucks and their capabilities, but I'm telling you... The Ridgeline crushes off road. The IVTM4 is incredible and continues to impress me the more I push it. The articulation is not really there, so it won't crawl up crazy boulders like a Jeep, but if you get it up on three wheels, that IVTM will absolutely get you through. More dedicated off-roaders, of course, will have more of those convenience features to make off-roading more comfortable (crawl control, hill descent, etc.) that the RL does not have, but if you got good throttle/brake control and good tires, it'll do work!

Love my 2020 RTL. My third Ridgeline (hurricane IDalia got my 2nd Ridgeline) and I couldn’t imagine wasting money on a full size or Tacoma because I don’t go in the woods anymore. It has enough power for daily stuff and occasional towing. Such a great truck if people couldn’t open their minds to new thoughts! Lol

Ridgeline is a CAR that looks like a truck

It is so nice that finally mid sizers are getting updates and totally redesigned. I had a 12 Tacoma TRD off Road and sold it in 20 and bought a Ranger FX4 Lariat. Love the turbo and sitting position so much better. I am not a "brand guy" and if Toyota goes turbo and makes a cab I fit in comfortably I would consider going back. I live in Wyoming and at elevation the turbo is just so much better than NA engine for me.

Not surprised by the ridgeline being number one. Used to work at a dealership a few years back and one thing all the car salespeople agreed on was that for the vast majority of people buying a truck the ridgeline was more than enough for what they need. What they wanted however is a big ol’ pickup like all the cool kids drive lol. That said to be clear I’m a fan of the new frontier and own one. Not a fan of the ridgeline myself.

in a midsize truck you need three things !! 1- towing capacity Taco is not best but not the worst 2- off-road capability tacos it's one of the best if not the best . 3- reliability & long-term value hands down the best

Awesome! Congratulations for your retirement! I am a few years away, and am doing my homework on a 1/2 ton or midsize truck to buy. Why did you buy the Ridgeline, and which trim did you get? That is a vehicle that is on my list; it ticks nearly all of the boxes on my list, just wish the bed were a wee bit longer and it had even 1,000 pounds more towing capacity. Given that, it would be a perfect rig for me. Dependability and reliability is #1 on my list, then comfort, perhaps mpg, then the normal technical specs after that. Thanks in advance for your input!

@@richarde1355for what it’s worth if you can get over people on the internet saying it’s not a real truck, it’s a great option. Very few people use their truck to it’s full capacity, the Ridgeline capitalizes on that by being a truck where you will use it and a car for the day to day shuffle. I would get one of the top two trims for equipment, and right now you can find them at invoice price at many dealers

I’m a couple of years from retirement and I can see myself buying a popup camper for the bed, and the Ridgeline seems like it might be a little light in payload capacity for that setup. Other than that, it pretty much ticks all the ‘needs’ boxes (for me) for a recreational/sport vehicle.

@@richarde1355 ah actually for that case, truck bed campers of any kind are going to need any other truck than the Ridgeline due to the shallow nature of the bed and the way it goes over the wheel wells. The campers are designed for almost anything else Additionally, I’m sure there are some campers for midsize trucks but it’s possible you’ll need a half ton for the payload ability. Maybe a Silverado or Tundra or Titan?

@@davewilson7602 Mostly agree, the full-size trucks are obviously better equipped to accommodate a bed camper. However, there are some decently equipped campers out there for mid-size pickups. I saw a Ranger last summer with a nice camper on it; it was set up for a single person, if I recall correctly, and with a quick web search campers for mid size trucks are readily available.

GMC Canyon downside is no manual tranny? Looks like it has a very good value but for the serious off-roady.

I ordered the 2023 Trail Boss that is 3 inches wider and a 2-inch factory lift and fully loaded with skid plates, etc. What seems to be little known is that for a few hundred dollars, you can add the high-output engine (Same as ZR2). Should be here in about four weeks.

@Carlos reliability, on road driving, safety features and engineering, style, durability, innovation, made in Canada and USA, love of Brad, fits mine and family lifestyle as we don't use to tow much...great for bringing items to public dump....picking up items too large for our RDX A SPEC or cars winter driving...going fishing or adventure in trails, plus when you check crashes of pickup trucks, you'll find Ridgeline has most survived and less injuries. Fact is it does more truck things than most people with full size will ever do.

I took a Tacoma on a long road trip ... (2021 model) ..to Florida and back. My comments are : A full size truck rides much better than the Tacoma on highways... The Tacoma was difficult keeping straight in the lanes at high speeds .. the full size truck I drove (F-150, Ram, Silverado) all were so much better. I hear that the Ridgeline is a great highway cruiser too.

I have owned a Sonoma, Colorado, and now a 21' crew cab, short bed V6 Canyon and even when towing and fully loaded cab, bed, and hauling a 8x9 metal U-Haul motorcycle trailer with my 750ib cruiser it rides good on the interstate at cruise controlled 65mph and that is for 15hrs straight going to the Smokey Mountains every October

These are pick ups tested in off road trim. If you want a on road truck get a SR or SR5 access cab 2nd V6 long bed taco. 4wd wasn’t really made to spend more than 60% of its time on road. Plus pwr seat in SR5 and up.

I’m 5’11” and the seats are comfortable to me. Also, I picked up my ‘23 TRD Off Road for $42k.

The only ones that will hit 250k or more is the Taco, Ridgeline and Frontier. Everything else will have awful reliability IDK why they throw 4 bangers that will just blow up.

I own 2 Jeep wranglers, a 2020, and a 2022. With that said, I don’t know how you picked the Gladiator so high up on your list. Priced way too high.

Cause it’s a Jeep with a truck bed, so it’s cool. It does all the pickup truck things, but it’s a Jeep so it’s incredibly capable off road. You can choose from a bunch of trims, it’s offered with a 6 speed manual, you can get a diesel engine with huge torque, it has similar suspension to the Ram 1500 which significantly improves ride quality over the Wrangler. Gladiator is being refreshed for 2024, they are adding lots of much needed safety features.

I love the Toyota Tacoma but for 22 & 23 the TRD Pro colors suck! unless you want everybody to see u lol... I think the army green, lunar Rock & cement colors were the 🔥... Or he'll minds the Blue crush metallic which looks pretty sick itself

From 2023 going into all these redesigns of midsize trucks, which truck would be the best option for off road capability and a daily driver?

I have a 2015 Chevy Colorado z71 absolutely no problem 105,000 miles never any problem but normal servicing, v6 bullet proof

Let’s be real here. They all haul air the same. Some are just more fuel efficient 😂

One category that no one seems to mention is longevity. 10 years from now or maybe 20. What percentage are still on the road. Or still working.

While shopping for a pickup truck, I know most of my friends at work recommended me to get the new Taco, but the more I do the research, the more I think Ridgeline is what I needed. A truck drive "like a car" for daily commute, a truck that's not too high or low clearance (I'm small), a truck with nice design interior and exterior looks, has power folding side mirrors and a new nicer dash board (2024), a fair price with no dealer mark up! I also like the V6 because of reability. My current 2007 Odyssey has same engine size with+282K miles on it, I'm skeptical about the new Turbo 4 engine on Tacoma!! I'm not typical guy who buy and trade cars or truck every 5 years or so. That being said, I love the new redesign 2024 Tacoma... But my brain's still thinking towards more on the 2024 Ridgeline Black Edition.

I’m getting 24mpg on the highway & 15mpg when towing my 5700# car+trailer with my 2021 Tacoma trd off rd 4x4 with a automatic, I have 32inch tall tires, 1.5 inch lift for the front and 1 inch lift for the rear , fox by pass shocks on all 4 corners. I love it for on road and off road , by far my favorite truck I have owned in 27yrs

Lots are commenting about resale value being important for determining a best truck? I mean you buy a truck to use and not to do buy and sell. If whats in the mind is replacing it someday. Just do leasing.

Leasing a vehicle is the best way to throw away your money. Period. When you a buy a vehicle, it depreciates. That's a given. But residual value over time is wise to consider. Used Tacomas sell for about 6-7k less than the same exact trim/specs brand new (this was true prior to the pandemic, nevermind the ridiculous used car prices now). In theory, I could drive my Tacoma for 10 years and get about half of what I paid for it back if I ever decide to trade it in. Of course I don't want to trade it in, I love my vehicle. But looking at the vehicle as an investment, the Taco is the best bang for your buck long term, and the data backs it up.

All but that ridge, lacs a lot even the guy said itlol

Looks like the new mid size trucks are finally catching up to the tacoma but now they all look like the tacoma

Only 1 truck caught and passed it. The new 2023 Colorado and canyon. Toyota needs to surpass it in 2024 but I don't think they will. I am waiting for the 2024 Tacoma to come out. Then i will pick the best of the 2 brands.

We Love our (my) 23 Toyota TRD Off Road double cab with the Premium and Technology pkgs and the 6’ bed. I had the choice of a slightly used (6K mile) 23 TRD or the redesigned 24 with the Turbo 4cyl. Historically a Naturally Aspirated (NA) engine is more durable and reliable than a Turbo. So that’s why I chose the 23.

You don't mention which trucks come with an extended cab anymore. Enough with the 4 door trucks already. Or the bed sizes lengths .

Toyota doesn’t ball around when it comes to prices my cousin bought her 2018 Taco TRD Sport for $ 43000 out the door. I got mine 2022 Taco TRD 4x4 OR 53k $ out the door.😢 I’m paying above Msrp oh well hopefully I get back 60% if to sell it used that’s what they said it has good resale value.

I think they accidentally played the list in reverse.

The Ridgeline has the best (by far) back seat setup. being able to fold up the back seats and have a large flat floor area is major and ver functional. If Ridgeline would come as hybrid would be a major plus.

I have a 2020 Ranger xlt. Hate the back seat arrangement. going to trade this summer. For first midsize that has a flat fold down rear seat.

Best truck on the list is more of a crossover than a truck. Paraphrasing here but… great at crossover things, worst in class at all other truck things. How did it make the top of the list 😂

If you have never driven a Ridgeline then you don’t know squat! It’s the very best overall truck! I don’t need a bigger truck to feel big and tough. Does everything and more than the others! No one practically goes serious off road with how much trucks cost anymore.

Yeah, well- we'll see in the coming years. But I'm betting pretty strongly that the Frontier is going to be the leader in reliability for at least the next few years. Credit to Nissan for keeping it simple- the naturally aspirated V6, the 9 speed tranny, nothing too crazy- just a good ol' pickup truck built on rails like it should be. The Ridgeline is nothing but a Honda Pilot with the back hacked off. It's an SUV that can haul a few more items.

the fact that the nissan has an option for a 6ft bed should have placed it higher.

I WILL take the Ranger every time, Mr. Driver.

So the only knock on colorado was lack of choice in engine and it was second to worst but somehow the Nissan jeep guzzler are better cause keyless entry and military stuff. Got it

Colorado has other knocks as well just weren't mentioned. 5 ft, narrow bed, is just awful for a truck

@@BiggNewt that’s not my biggest concern to be frank. I’m much more worried about mechanical/fuel costs. I also prioritize having a short bed for convenience reasons, do you mind telling me anything else I should be concerned about?

@@MrFirextinguisher well the 2023 isn't out yet so I can't go by anything other than the specs. Cramped back seat seems to be the same as before. I was all in on buying a 2021 Colorado when I was looking, but couldn't get past the cheap interior and that cramped rear area.

Gladiator has 1700lbs of payload, how is that low ? If im not mistaken, thats about 50 percent above average

We won’t be looking to replace my wife’s outback for another 15 years and I’ll die before my Toyota wears out. Loved my 92 S10. More of a compact compared to todays giants. Chevy should revive it as a true small truck. Throw in the indestructible 4.3 for extra points.

At4 is the twin to the Colorado they combined those two sales... however I'd stick with the Nissan na v6 don't care for 4banger turbo's and the towing that's funny ain't no one towing lmao majority people buying these trucks stay on pavement haha. Plus moving up to the fullsize need the bigger bed.

Hondas truck has a name for driving a dirt road on top of the mtn/hill, not really an off road machine.

Nissan's suck at fuel economy. My Titan on a GOOD day, cruise control, no hills and on the interstate will pull 19 mpg. Hook my pontoon boat up and the mpg drops to only 8 mpg.

Can you tell me why Toyota is at the bottom of the list? I guess if you live out in the country or on a Farm most of these vehicles make sense. But, city life and never going in the country, the Ridgeline is perfect as a daily driver. I use my F250 Long bed for truck stuff. And, all you 1/2 ton short bed people, That's not a real truck either. You can't do much with a short bed pick up truck.

Traded in my Tacoma for a Ridgeline. Ridgeline is faster and waaay more smooth.

I think people forgot that truck is to be a workhorse, not a leather sit comfy ride lmao... People buy trucks to use it, if you are buying truck for comfy ride and fancy stuff you aren't a real truck driver, not even a construction worker. Honda can barely tow 5K lmao, might as well buy SUV tahoe or 4runner, seq even can tow more xD
