The pacing was completely off as well, incredibly rushed making it near impossible to fully develop all the ideas and ensure all readers understand each aspect of what's happening, making the narrative frankly confusing and difficult to keep up with.

Honestly, I’m not a big fan of YA. I’ve only fully enjoyed reading two YA series, Six of Crows and The Infernal Devices. I guess what I loved so much about Six of Crows was that Kaz always kept things away from the other crew members, meaning he also kept them away from the reader. Once you thought you knew exactly what was happening, he revealed something or did something smart which left you shocked. Also, I enjoyed that even though Inej and Kaz seem to love each other, they never really developed an actual relationship. The series wasn’t love driven, but very plot driven.

I just wanted to thank you for making 2020 more fun with your awesome content. I don't have (legal) access to many fantasy books where I'm from so I don't read much of them, but your content 1. Works even when I don't know what you're talking about 2. Made me want to read more in the future. Happy new year and thank you again

That’s interesting. Never read the series but I’m curious about people’s opinions on writing teenagers like adults. Some teenagers do sound like adults cause of how they were brought up. I guess it’s all about intention. I bet ya teenagers in like the 1600s sounded like adults cause they were treated like adults. But idk when six of crows is set or the kind of society. Anyways sorry to ramble lol. Point being: interesting take

I’m so pleased I watched this. I was nervous, seeing Six of Crows in the thumbnail, because I loved it and it prompted me to read everything else by her I could lay my hands on. But “not to my taste” is fine, and now I want to watch your YA piece (because I felt SoC avoided my least favourite YA tropes, so interested to hear your take). Seconding your view on the Iron Druid, although I’m not a big fan of Dresden either. I mean, I’ve read the whole of both series, but mainly because my brain needs something to focus on when getting ready to sleep (that isn’t anxiety and existential terror) and they can both do that, rather than because I think the writing/plots/characters are particular standouts. Otherwise thanks for the warnings for the other books, and I agree with your dad about the importance of the right reader.

I actually encourage you to search more on the internet about him. He's not a great dude at all, he's week known for harassing and belittling fellow SFF female authors and he actively looks for bad reviews of his books just to spite their writers on his Twitter profile. I haven't read any of his books, and I don't plan to, so I can't speak about his writing abilities, but I find it really hard to say he his "a great dude" (sorry if I sound condescending, I don't know if you knew anything about these things, and I don't mean to offend you in any way)

I’ve been interacting with Mark for about 6 years (On Goodreads and Facebook) and haven’t ever seen anything remotely similar to that - he’s always been kind and thoughtful to me. Now, obviously that doesn’t mean what you are saying isn’t true! But that’s where my ‘he’s a great dude’ stemmed from.

I totally agree with the 451 movie. I was so fired up to see it. What a Joke.

Excellent video btw. I like the categories. Glad to see your Dad is looking well. The Stephen Fry Sherlock audios are superb. I've been working my way through them slowly, but I decided to do a re-read in 2021. Probably my fourth? I watch the Jeremy Brett version of 'The Blue Carbuncle' as a Christmas treat every year - and this year I also watched the Peter Cushing version too - and that got me wanting to read Sherlock Holmes again. I might dip into The Lost World by Conan-Doyle too.
