Worst Game Ever - Army Men: Green Rogue

Ойындар

As a general rule, video games are supposed to be fun. However, all this one managed to achieve was demonstrating that, sometimes, playing with actual plastic army men can be infinitely more fun than sinking half an hour into a dreadful twin-stick shoot 'em up.

Can we just acknowledge for a second that the whole "Army men" part of the thing is entirely irrelevent? All the props, buildings and scenery are to scale to the characters - as if these are normal, human-sized soldiers with serious skin conditions.

The blue, which were a very sneaky faction that were kind of known as spies and saboteurs and the grey who were basically the Russians. The grey were almost never in the game, as they were wiped out by the tan in back story material. You generally saw blue and grey as just casualties along the way, the tan already having killed them in the campaign you were playing. Also I never played Green Rogue…and I’m glad I missed this one. So I can still remember the series fondly

I never understood when movies and games did this, they take an idea like Army men, and instead of bracing the idea of a bunch of toy soldiers fighting, they try being so serious with it. Imagine a comedic type of game where it's set in various children's playrooms and toy sets like model trains and whatnot. Why not embrace the idea instead of trying to make it like other 3rd person shooters.

Same here.. I played hours upon hours of Army Men games as a kid and was pumped to rent this edgy new one. Within probably 30 minutes the game was back in its case to go back to the store.

What's bizarre is how popular Army Men is, and half of the total released games either don't follow the Sarge's Heroes lore, or is the Sarge's Heroes lore

Okay, so this is pretty nakedly inspired by the 2000AD strip Rogue Trooper? "Rogue", buff shirtless character with glowing eyes, basically several soldiers combined (in RT the minds of his fallen squad are embedded in his gear i.e weapon, helmet).. only one of his kind deep in enemy territory.. I kind of like that somebody clearly loved RT and squeezed a bit of it into this game, fun to see.

Army Men II on PC and Sarge's Heroes was so much fun back then. They did it right when they set the setting on kitchen counters and bedroom like were Army Men toys would be fighting. That's only thing that sets it apart from generic military game

Right, I forgot this spinoff game was a thing. So, let's list off the dynamic of the setting; Greens are the good guys, tans are the bad guys, purple/blue (it kinda interchanges the two) are spies, and usually any other color is a neutral party. The six characters being bled into the mold are the main and supporting cast of the Sarge's Heroes games. Sunglasses guy was the one that had the rocket launcher, I believe. (I barely remember this stuff. It's been like 10 years since I last played an Army Men game.) Another detail; the plastic army men from this series are from another world where everything is their size, and they find portals (ranging from the traditional toy bucket to a circle made of not-lego bricks) to travel between their world and the real world. Whenever they end up in the real world, it turns into an arms race to grab new (literal) toys to turn into superweapons. It's all nonsense meant for preteens and teens, so don't expect it to be a particularly sensible plot.

This was such a strange game. When I was a kid I really liked a couple of the "World War", "Sarge's Heroes", and "Air Attack" entries in this series. However, I remember that I rented this one for my PlayStation many years ago and was very disappointed with it.
