Worst Crash Yet, Backcountry Riding - Yamaha XT250

Ойын-сауық

Got myself good on this ride, wearing all the gear mitigated the injuries but I still ended up with a bruised (or fractured) ribs , road rash on my left arm and hip, severely bruised shoulder, and my left big toe is black from being smashed. I experienced my worst crash yet while riding in the backcountry and thankfully I was able to ride out. I thank my gear and the reliability of the XT250 for being able to ride out instead of being rescued.
After riding on some light technical terrain in a 'new to me' area I returned to the main drag, a hard packed dirt road. I decided to continue to ride this road to gain access to another section of roads farther west that I was familiar with. Being off the technical terrain, I was feeling comfortable traveling a little faster on the hard packed dirt road. Coming around a slight bend I immediately found myself in deep ruts and just as I was beginning to slow my front tire caught the edge of the deep rut and down went the bike. I consciously recall slamming to the ground and then sliding, amazing how the time slowed.
Some people passing by had to pick the bike up, I couldn't do it and I assured them that I was ok before they left. After resting for a bit and doing a self check for mobility (broken bones) and being able to breathe (no punctured lung) and catching my breath (had the wind knocked out of me), I concluded I was well enough to continue the ride. It didn't take long for the adrenaline to wear off and the pain really set in forcing me to return home.
Having had broken ribs before, I've got a long stretch of misery ahead to heal up. Four to six weeks. It could have been a lot worse. A beautiful day of riding but shit happened. Wear your gear folks! Stay safe out there!

You can seperate the ribs or squish em together, both can feel like broken ribs, both can shut a lung down.. gotta be tough to ride solo, that’s how I roll too 💪

YIKES! Hope you’re okay! I bought a TEK VEST exactly for this reason, the makers also do search and rescue in Canada and say the leading cause of death that they’ve seen is from broken ribs puncturing things internally and the people are hours away from help. I don’t wear knee or elbow protection but I do wear the TEK VEST. As a bonus, the vest spreads out the weight of a loaded back pack really well, makes the back pack virtually unnoticeable. Really enjoying your videos but bummed about your get-off…
