Worn Out Leadscrew Nut Update

Ғылым және технология

I found out why the leadscrew nut on my King PDM-30 Mill Drill wore out within 1 Year.
In the video I'll show you why and how to prevent premature wear.

Gilles, good to see you figured out root cause of the failure.

Very interesting info for all the PDM-30 owners. And maybe for other models too.

Good advice pays off. I finally got my machine a month ago PDM 30 from King Canada. Yesterday I decided to check it. the orientation of the lead crew nut actually it was facing forward. You are absolutely right. I was checking in the service manual from King Canada for this machine and you clearly see that the small allen adjusting bolt is facing the back of the machine. I decide also to check on the service manual for JMT 15 from Jet tools. it’s almost the exact same machine and the lead screw nut facing also the back of the machine. So I did dissemble everything and turn the lead screw nut correctly, according to the service manual. Thanks for the advice Gilles

My PDM 30 was also prematurly worn out and guess what?? MY table nut was also put in backwards! Not only did it wear out the nut but the lead screw is also showing premature wear. My machine is outside of warranty but I still contacted King to get parts and offered to pay for part of the cost but since this seems to be a production issue, didn't feel the customer should have to cough up full MSRP on $500 worth of leadscrew and nut. King Canada's response: • These are wear and tear parts on the PDM-30 , meaning that they are made to wear out first so that they protect the shaft . Which is common practice for all our machines (and others) . - NO! the nut may be 'wear/tear' but 1) it was improperly installed and 2) the 'shaft' they are referring to is the worn-out leadscrew which clearly was NOT protected.

That’s infuriating. I’m sorry you’re going through that Jim. Gilles
