I have heavy clay soil. There are many things I do to keep it more loam than clay, one is adding produce kitchen scraps directly into my garden spaces. Usually I add the soil snacks in the fall, so by planting time there is no sign of any produce, only healthier soil. This time, I did a few spots in the early spring, as it was warmer than usual. The produce was only partially decomposed. Normally not ideal, but firstly, I can still plant in those areas, and secondly, you get to literally see all the worms working through the plant matter.
