WORLDS FASTEST SUPERSONIC CAR...

In a world exclusive interview with previously unseen footage - it’s an honour to bring to you the story of the man who broke the sound barrier in a car: Wing Commander (ret’d) Andy Green.
771 miles per at ground level must feel like the world is being devoured. Andy Green breaks it down in such a way that you feel like you’re there in the cockpit. He details the engineering feat that was so complex that the speed they achieved back in 1997 has never been challenged since.
Under the leadership of the visionary Richard Noble, the Thrust SSC project attracted some of the finest scientists in the world. Andy Green was at the epicentre of this outlandish venture - a former RAF Pilot with a renegade streak that he conceals well.. but you can tell it’s there.
A thinking hero with a 1st Class Degree in Mathematics and enough understanding to put his faith in the hands of extreme aerodynamics, yet acutely aware of the immediate danger that ultra high speeds entail. As he says - at Mach 1 there’s no point ejecting because you’re unlikely to survive.
In my smaller world I’ve driven cars up to 250mph and it felt fairly fast. I consider anything above 300+ mph to be a deadly game of poker, where any component failure can turn the physics, and your world, upside down within the blink of an eye. Let’s consider then what it feels like to drive at over 700+ mph - not just once - not twice - but repeatedly over a period of weeks.
I’ve admired Andy Green for decades. The onboard view of his steering corrections as he wrestled control of this jet-powered bronco at Supersonic speeds is simply terrifying - if you want to know how he summoned the bravery required to step into the cockpit of the world’s fastest ever car, how he overcame the impossibility of steering it on the salt flats of Nevada, and how he managed to stay alive… then buckle up and press play!
Huge thanks to Andy Green OBE for taking the time to speak to me and to Richard Noble for kindly permitting us to show the Thrust SSC in action! Thanks also to Bloodhound LSR team for access to their archive.
Thank you to the staff of Coventry Transport Museum for giving us access to the "Car" and for those wanting to visit, go here: www.transport-museum.com/visi...
Thank you to Incogni for sponsoring this film :)
More to follow... stay tuned.

I gotta say I love the way that Ben asks questions and drills down into something if he's not sure of something.. I'm a bit fan and advocate of bringing that way of thinking back. I think a curious mind (at any age) is a healthy.

Just lost my best friend and wife of 22 yrs. 3 weeks ago. She was my sanity guide on life and on the Harley. If she wanted to go faster she would put a finger between my ribs. If she wanted to go slower she would squeeze her legs. She's the reason I am alive today. I understand how important it is to have a great person that you trust wholeheartedly by your side and in your ear. I'll find my way through life but right now I'm lost without her... One thing I respect the most about Andy Green, besides the fact he has the balls to go supersonic on a salt flat, is that he understands how every little piece and knows about every little nuance of the car that he broke the record with. Very intelligent bloke. And also Ben, thank you for not doing the typical KZreadr thing of cutting his utterly fascinating sentences short. Best interview I have ever listened to. Genuinely.

Andy was and still is the right Person for the job. I followed Bloodhound LSR before and during the testing ( daily updates on the Bloodhound LSR : KZread) on the Pan near the Border of South Africa and Botswana. ( was looking at driving up from Durban and camping when the Record attempt was to take place). Alas, Covid and the lack to secure a Major Sponsor has put a hold on the record attempt. I wish Andy and the Team all the best and hope that the attempt will still materialize. Thanks again for an excellent Interview.

I bet Andy has recounted that hundreds of times and yet it felt like it was first time he'd told it! Amazing how much enthusiasm he still has and detail he remembers 25 years on.

I was 13 when they set the record. 12 when I met Andy Green and Richard Noble next to the Thrust SSC as a member of the Mach 1 club.

Great description of the solutions to " breaking the sound barrier" which FYI is "Trans-sonic instability." The shock waves moving around both reaching and slightly faster than speed of sound. At Mach 2 they have long disappeared and why the Concorde at Mach 2 was quiet. Now as their record is past that problem speed, now solving for running something at Mach 2 on wheels would be someone's challenge to break this record. I imagine what they went through, today would be solved by "fly by wire" tech used in aircraft.

What a brilliant interview. I was watching on the early (for the UK) Internet and was totallly transnsfixed when the the garage webcam showed an empty parking spot. This was soon followed up with the record breaking news. Thanks Ben. Thanks Andy. Superb.

This video was absolutely amazing, 1hr and 47minutes... but I felt like it was just 5 lol. I barely manage to sit through movies at that length, but I didn't want this video to end 😂 I could listen to Andy talk all day about this car and his experience, something about his demeanor and his way of explaining things kept at both a high level of excitement, but he also has this fantastic way of dumbing down the really complicated parts, while not sounded condescending.

Awesome interview! 🚗 🚀 Super cool to learn this much about the inner workings of the team and car, and what went into creating this record. I will say, I would have loved to have cockpit tour. They kept talking about the 1,000mph speedo, would have been neat to see it.

I was able to have a chat with Richard Noble sometime after his world record in Thrust2. He was a nice nice man and not at all pretentious about his achievements. My hat goes off to both him and Andy Green. 👍👍
