I was priveliged to take 5 SBS guys on an RYA Day Skipper course (as pert of their annual experience/fun weeks). Imagine trying to teach SBS guys dinghy handling😅😅😅 Such a genuine, funny, straightforward bunch of guys.
What always amazes me with these gentleman in the SF is how articulate, calm and educated they come across but always with a sense of humour. They really are the thinking soldier, very inspirational as a outsider of this world.

My bro in law was 22, and at wedding to my sister, there was several of his mates from Hereford. They were, as you say, calm, in control, disciplined types. My bro in law is same, hot heads (these idiots who want to fight the world) don't make good SF. They're not looking for that, people in control, capable of ultra violence when absolutely necessary.

Staz is a testament to our military. Particularly our elite special forces. Nothing compares to the British special forces anywhere in the world. The most enthralling podcast on your list Dodge and they are all excellent. “Just doing my job” he says. So humble. Even after experiencing the most dangerous missions of deployment and coming out the other side with the highest of medals available, you would walk past this guy in the street and not even realise. Keep up the good work Dodge
Staz was up at Fleet Protection Group RM while I was a Marine there too. genuine good guy. I remember his repack box (basically a coffin sized cardboard box with which you ship all your kit between postings and billets) it had his name and P0 number, and below one of the lads had written ‘STAZ’S STEROIDS’ typical Corps humour.

The stories are mad and he knows how to tell em. We definitely make the best of em
Could sit and listen to him talk about this for hours without opening my mouth haha, absolutely insanity the things these guys do for us, and most of them like he said think that these acts of selflessness are part of the job. Great to hear of a fellow Wigan lad that has done well with his life. He's right about northern lads ending up on the south coast, happened to me too!
My favourite interview so far Staz came across so well …very articulate funny and believable….good luck in all you do and thx for your service …top man
Unbelievable man just like them all . He makes it sound as if it's so easy. RESPECT.
The most hilarious description of Selection I’ve witnessed. All of our SF are so well trained, and I think they are all excellent. Staz is one of the most interesting and entertaining ones I have watched and listened to. A real character. And clearly very intelligent and skilled. Glad it was available on KZread. His descriptions of events are fascinating, and the descriptions of people, very funny. I rarely laugh out loud at something like this. But Dodge did, and I joined him! it was truly excellent. And mind blowing to hear such a first hand account of life within 3 Commando Brigade and the SBS. I think my favourite phrase was “a human highlighter”. 😂 Respect to you both. Thank you for the podcasts.
I’ve no interest in football, USA college soccer, fitness, the military, guns, marines, or snipers BUT this is a great interview with a brilliant storyteller and I was captivated the whole way through. Testament to the skills, intellect and charisma from both sides of the table. Thanks so much xx
Great interview! They really need to put him in another series of SAS Who Dares Wins.

This guy had the fitness of an international footballer and if he was a sweeper, I imagine a natural engine. He was then best recruit in the Marines. With that background he still described full SAS selection as brutal. Puts it in perspective!

This guy is around my age. I was a trainee professional footballer too. After getting released from my contract I considered the Marines, with an outside view of a future in SF. In the end, I sat A-levels, got good grades and went to Oxford University. I had EXACTLY the same perspective as him that drove me. My mission in football failed but I desperately wanted to do something elite. I remember actually playing the army for the University football team once. Very good lads.
